So - about 6 months ago I faced my first multi-day business trip raw - 4 days and I didn't think I could manage it, but I researched, found public trans to a raw restaurant, had alot of fruit and veg, went hungry, and managed to check out the raw food place a couple of time and totally filled up in anticipation of the next "famine"

So far this year, I've now checked out raw food restaurants in Las Vegas, San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Toronto. It's become a fun part of the trips, trying to figure out how to make it work and exploring raw cuisine in new cities.

In January, I'm going to Puerto Rico for a couple days, and I was thinking of extending the trip one and half days to enjoy the warm clean air, clear ocean waters, and the rain forest!

But my research can't find any raw food thing! I don't think I can go 4 whole days hungry, and am almost thinking of not spending the extra time there.

We'll be staying at a resort 19 miles out of san juan, I won't have a car, and I can't run up too much of bill for the clients to pay.

I'm thinking I can get loads of coconut water, avos and veggies and fruit.....but where? I think it's kind of isolated:

Any advice? I think I should book the extra time, but it will be pretty pricy - maybe about $400.......

That's ALOT for one day to myself!! But it's an opportunity too, so anyway, worried about the money and the food.....

Any words of wisdom?

Check out Kimberly Snyder's blog (1st in google). She found tons of raw there and had a great time. Plenty of produce there.

Where are you staying? A resort? A private residence? I would get in contact with the people in charge where I was staying and asking where you could purchase great produce. Depending on where you're staying, maybe you could ask to have x pounds of whatever delivered for you and pick up the tab on it. Or maybe there are coconut trees within walking distance you can scavenge off.

If it were me, I would stay. Enjoy some time for yourself - we only come this way in this skin once!!

True - after I posted I thought - gee doesn't sound so heinous!

Will check out that blog Dimond.

Part of the problem is that of course I'll be working in a business suit most of the time, I'll be with the clients about 12 hours on one of the days, so while resorty and beautiful, not a whole lot of free time to research and travel. Most of the meals are semi pre-ordered so the group can keep working efficiently....like catering in or at a restaurant with a limited amount of choices, not the whole menu.

So while on one hand, you could say even fasting for 4 days in paradise would be awesome, I'm not on the beach relaxing with a good book, I'm sitting at a table talking shop with people all eating fabulous gourmet meals with outrageously sinful looking deserts and heavenly smelling coffee. That plain salad without dressing really doesn't cut it there. So I feel not only deprived but socially awkward and wonder how many of these docs think I have an eating disorder, lol!

Maybe the source would be a good place to begin a search. I'd even do a google maps search of the area you will be staying in to see if you can detect any farms or orchards in the area. Here's an organic farm... http://www.organicfarm.net/

I saw at another site PR has around 15,475 farms. One farm stand I read about near to Marin city operates may through October. Maybe someone from the link...Govardhan Gardens, can direct you to good sources of live food in the cities-some of their customers may be of like mind.
Good luck searching and have fun on your trip.

I don't know about PR, but my friend told me they had juice bars all over the place where she was staying in Mexico. She said she lived on watermelon juice. I know that wouldn't help with the fancy dinners, but at least it would be something. I couldn't find any raw restaurants when I traveled to Florida, but I packed some empty containers, a cutting board, and my kitchen knife in my checked luggage. Before I even went to the hotel, I found a grocery store and got salad and fruit makings. I brought my salad with me to class in my containers each day. I also found a juice bar so I was happy :-) People may have thought I was weird, but I didn't care. Of course, I wasn't trying to sell them anything or form a business relationship either...

Good luck to you!
