View Full Version : What does everyone take to work for lunch?

This has always been an issue for me, since foods straight out of the fridge always make me kind of gag! Salad isn't really an option either for the same reason...it just gets soggy and...ick. So what does everyone take? I don't have a dehydrator yet, but when I get one I plan to make lots of wraps and breads to make sandwiches and such.

Well, I nibble all day. Starting out with fruits, then on to a green smoothie and whatever I feel like bringing in. Doesn't need refrigeration as far as I'm concerned because from 7:00 a.m. until lunch time, it then gets room temp.

Hmm..good thinking! You see how I'm beginning to unlearn everything I've always grown up with! I'd just sort of assumed my foods needed to be refrigerated. Doi. That's goofy now that I think about it...and I don't even refrigerate most of my foods at home.

Today (I bring breakfast too 'cause I'm here so early) I brought 8 clemntines, 1 pomagranate, bag of grapes, avo, contanier of grape tomatoes, 1 cuc, bag of pumpkin seeds, contanier of raspberries, and 1/4 recepie of Potato S Salad. I nibble throughout the day and have two options for lunch, salad (usually I bring greens too but ran out and I keep a dressing in the fridge at work 'casue it's easier) or something from Alissa's book. Sometimes I bring a sweet treat too like dates with almond butter and honey but lately I've left those at home so I have something special.
I don't refrigerate anything (except the dressing that lives here) so everything is at room temp like vfl said. Me no likey cold food....

I bring a piece of onion bread and some zucchini hummus and make a quick wrap. I also bring tons of fruit in on Monday so I have enough here at work to last me all week. I also keep a big bag of almonds here so i always have something on hand.

Also, I dont know if others get this response from work but when I am eating my raw goodness I get people that think I am totally crazy and it makes me chuckle! The funnniest part about this and my work is that I work for a very well known organic hair and skin care company yet the people that run it and work here know ZERO about nutrition and health...that makes me giggle even more when they give me the "your crazy" talk : )

Sometimes just because I can? I'll bring in a luscious dessert like nICE dream, or cheeze kake or a chocolatey ooey/gooey something or another. LOVE that!!!
Plus then I can work it off throughout the day...

I brung in a trail mix of brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds, and goji berries, dusted with red sea salt. It was delicious, but if I had more to work with (dried coconut, chopped fig chunks, cocoa nibs etc.) it would be even better. Have fun making the dopest trail mixes known to mankind.

I just bought a small crockpot at Target that has a warm setting, paid $10 for it. My big crockpot takes two hours to get a big batch of soup to 100 degrees. I am going to run a test on my small one and then take it to work. I am so looking forward to having some nice warm soups and chili at work. Mainly because it is always FREEZING in there!
Other than that, I usually just take a portion of what I made for dinner the night before. Or I take a cucumber, tomato, avocado, whatever I have on hand, and make a veggie salad.
And I always take a big ol green smoothie.

Mixed fruit, or nuts. Sometimes I make a salad, other times I just have fruit

Renee, your food looks so tasty! I've tried making mock pates before, and they always come out too dry. I wonder if I'm not soaking my nuts long enough? Because lately I've just had this killer craving for tuna/chicken salad. Hmmm...maybe I'll try one of the recipes again...

Thank you!!! Yes, I enjoy nut pates more when I soak my nuts. Usually, I will soak my nuts the night before. Alissa has a nut soaking Chart in the middle of her book, but once you do the pate's a few times, you'll be able to tell how long YOU like to soak. Of course, if I'm in a hurry, I have been known to just make the Pate's w/o soaking...just add a bit of H2O to the mixture while it's processing!!!

How SWEET!!! Thank you so much!!! Actually, that Pate is from Jennifer Cornbleet's book...it's HER Not Tuna Pate. I do LOVE Alissa's, but it doesn't travel well to me... The Nut Pate's do better for me on the Airplane.

The Eggplant Bacon is from this site! Just click here:

I use the one from RAWkinlocs or School of Rawk that uses Liquid Smoke.
The Flax Crackers are from Alissa's Book. They are SOOO GOOD with the Pate's!!! Also, check out RAWvolution's Eggless Egg Salad!!! Click here:

I make a large smoothie each morning before school and drink half for breakfast, pour the other half in a thermos to keep it cold (I put either frozen fruit or ice to make it cold to begin with) and drink the other half for lunch. That way I have breakfast and lunch done in 5 minutes in the morning. Couldn't be easier.
This is a great thread! Thanks!
Renee--your food pictures are wonderful!
I'm going to try Alissa's Mock Salmon Pate tomorrow. Thank you for the information on making those.
My work day:
I usually make a large green smoothie first thing and drink it on my drive to work. I have a nice tall container with a top and straw so it's easy to drink. It fits in the cup holder.
I bring 2-3 bananas, and some apples or other fruit, along with a few dates and 2 snack bags full of slices of celery. I eat it all throughout the day and usually have something to munch on on my drive home. I have almost an hour commute so it works out well.
