That is interesting... when I was about 10 (and went on the first "healthy kick" of my life :D), I went through a phase where I brushed my teeth with just baking soda. I noticed my teeth got so WHITE when brushing with it. Really interesting that it seemed to clear up his tooth ache. I have a mild tooth ache (leftover from my abysmal year of SAD eating) and I'm going to start brushing with baking soda for a while.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for posting this. I always love simple, pure remedies like this, and I was thinking of starting to use baking soda myself. I've grown up with a much healthier diet than most Americans, so I've never had any cavities or anything, but it'd still be a good thing to do.

Reminds me of my hero, Weston A. Price, who found that all the native peoples who didn't brush their teeth still had perfect ones with no cavities or deformities, all because their diet was so pure...

I just did some more research on the baking soda thing, and a lot of places say it can damage your tooth enamel, and that it should only be done 1-2 times a week...anyone know if this is true?

I hope it's not, I was really excited about the baking soda!

I have done extensive reasearch in the tooth thing due to having sensitivity and stuff for a while after going raw.

This is what I found out. Teeth remineralize with the raw and living foods we eat. If we are coating the eeth with toothpastes and in particular, glycerin, then it doesnt aloow this to take place. So we are building something here in our teeth.

Enter a daily abrasive that takes away all we are building. eeeek

It was reccomended to brush with water only or somenon glycerin products, even the raw companies have products too. AND to, once per week, use baking soda to whiten up the teeth. ANy more than this takes away what we are building up.

I followed this protocol and my teeth and gums healed and the sensitivity went away.

baking soda has 150 mg. sodium per 1/8 tsp. How much would you have to take I wonder?

I have tried to use baking soda, but for some reason my teeth are really sensitive to it. Sends shooting pains. I've been on a fruit forum and they are talking a lot about using just water. Someone even was saying they use coconut oil to brush their teeth. Neem is something a friend of mine from India has always used as well.

Neem oil is super as it is anti bacterial and healing as well as oregano oil!!!
Water and coconut oil super too. Baing soda wears down the enamel and re- mineralizing that takes place with the alkaline foods and juices.
