Hi Raw Friends,
I am almost 3 weeks all raw and I noticed about a week ago I started feeling allergy symptoms. It feel like a burnong and itching inside my skin.
To my knowlege I am not allergic to any food(excpet sesame, which I am not eating)
Could this feeling be a detox symptom?
I am enjoying a nice light feeling and sustained energy despite this irritation!
Terry

I would guess that it's detox! Be gentle with yourself, get plenty of rest, drink lots of water, and eat, eat, eat as long as it's RAW!!!

Actually, if your irritation gets too out of hand, ie, the burning/itching is unbearable, it might be a good idea to slow detox by ingesting some cooked food. Just eat a good cooked food, ya know, no cheetos. You don't wanna go halting detox for life.

Do a search on food that can lead to allergy.

I never had allergy symptom in my entire life and started to develop symptom the year i went raw. I didn't know if it was a coincidence or something else, two years after, I discovered that i need to stay away from certain nuts on fall time especially and can only eat in moderation during the rest of the year. Some fruits can lead to allergy as well. Just do research. Everyone is different.

I read that doing a liver cleanse can help with allergies, i haven't done that yet.

Beside this, i am still doing raw food because of the benefit i have from it, i am just learning to listen to my body.

Also, you may want to check for if your food is truly raw. I am ok with real raw nut, but certain nut/seed that are supposed to be raw, will give me pimples, so i make sure to find a reliable place to buy certain food.

I hope you figure what is wrong, please don't give up on raw food, this is truly a healing force for your body. You need to learn to listen to your body as you go along

When I eat gluten, I get intense itching on my back....right in that place you can't.......QUITE.......REACH!. It is awful! Well, once I went raw, it returned, in spite of the fact that I am eating absolutely no gluten. But it is gradually getting less, and I noticed after I did a recent green smoothie fast with gall bladder flush that it is greatly improved. Our skin is actually our largest eliminative organ, so you will detox through the skin. That's what I think has been going on with me anyway.

Woopise! Just remember that suggesting that someone begin eating cooked food again is generally not an acceptable suggestion on these RAW boards. ;)

Terry - I "have" endometriosis and when I was only 75-90% RAW I still had excruciatingly painful cycles and constant hormonal upsets, and I was hospitalized multiple times in the last two years. But when I went 100% RAW (for the second time) recently, I noticed that almost immediately the pain was reduced CONSIDERABLY...

However, I've had a ton of headaches! And on 90% RAW, I had none... so I think I'm probably detoxing right through my head. ;)

We all detox differently... the trick is, to push steadily forward, seeking RAW food for "thy medicine"... someday (soon) your body will THANK YOU.

Also, have you been able to read Alissa Cohen's book LIVING ON LIVE FOOD??? It's got lots of information that is crucial to understanding the transition between SAD and RAW...! I would say that buying her book would be the #1 BEST thing you can do for yourself right now, besides eating RAW foods. :D

9. No posts that advocate eating cooked food. Now, we're not talking those questionable things like Nama Shoyu, cashews, nutritional yeast and such but rather outright cooked food entrees and dishes such as fast food, steamed vegetables or cooked rice or candy bars...

Okay, I wasn't just raving mad when I said we shouldn't advocate cooked food... I started thinking maybe I was just being grumpy, but then I read this!

It's from Rules and Guidelines (http://rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=33779)thread that Alissa (board founder) posted.

This is an exception, I'm not saying cooked food should stay in one's diet... I'm just saying, it would be cruel to expect someone to go through extremely intense detox and suffer without catching a break. My suggestion is parroted from David Wolfe's book, and I think it's good advice, if you try to go raw too quick/not at a comfortable rate you can face problems. The first time I tried Kombucha I broke out rather intensely, so naturally, I waited for the symptons to die down before indulging in more, so it wouldn't get so intense I curl up in the fetal position and give up on life.

Thank you everyone for your helpful replies.
It does make sense that it would be detox.
I think I am going through a rough patch with that and also emotional detox. I am hanging on and know it will pass and I will feel GREAT!
I have Living on Live Food, that book gave me the courage to go 100 percent raw. I will reread the detox part though.
Thanks for each reply and the support!!!!
