Ok, so I finally got around to making the Kale Chips. OH MY GOODNESS!!!! They are SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

I really did not expect this. I can not believe how good these things are. They actually remind me of popcorn because of the crunchiness. SO yummy. And so many options for flavor. I just whipped up a sauce for them adding this and that. But the possibilities are endless.

If you have not made these yet, do not pass go, do not collect $200, go directly to your grocery store to pick up ingredients to make these. You will NOT be sorry you did.

I need to get more Kale. I just can't believe how stinkin good these are. I was literally giddy about it. And they are not even done yet!!

Mmmmmmmmmmm! Must make more kale chips. This ones gonna be a staple.

Hey, but don't go running to your store to get it....LOL, grow it! Very easy to grow. Even here, in Ohio, I can grow it year round if I build a hoop house around it. Even if I do nothing, it will last until January, as I dig up frozen leaves from under the snow......

My kids like kale chips too. Isn't that so awesome?

Glad you liked 'em.

So, what did you put on'em?

My fave is:

soak cashews in tomato puree
add a little bit of dried tomato...
a date
sea salt
nutritional yeast
lemon

Blend. Smear onto kale leaves. Then I grind some cashews mixed with say sunflower seeds and dip the ends into them for some extra "crunchies."

I tasted a recipe just like this that used red pepper instead of tomato and it was good too.

In the Alissa and Annie thread I just mentioned the chips I made using a couple of Alissa's cheese recipes. They are just awesome made this way.

I've had the same problem......first of all, the whole house smelled (so the smell even got to me). I finished drying them by putting the dehydrator outside. But when I tasted them.....the texture was nice and cruchy but the taste was......well, let's just say I wasted a bunch of beautiful Kale. I keep thinking that I must have made them wrong. Everytime I see a post like this one I want to make them again but don't want to waste my Kale.

I love them with cheesy sauce, but more often I make them plain. A little olive oil, a generous sprinkling of nutritional yeast, and a pinch or two of Sun Fire salt. Green curly Kale makes a light, airy chip, dinosaur kale make a thicker, hearty chip. Both excellent, but these days I've become partial to the dino kale. Another good thing about a simple chip, it is easier, cheaper, you can eat more kale, and the best part... At 110 degrees they are ready to munch in as little as 3 hours. :D

I posted what I did a few postings ago--I used the soaked cashews...Sorry, I didn't use a recipe, just kind of threw it together. I went back to edit, but was unable to do so....Sometimes I'll add more than one date to sweeten.

I posted one here (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=47077&highlight=cheesy+kale+chips). There are several other recipes and links further down the thread.

It is hard to go wrong with kale chips. Massage them with your favorite salad dressing, or a little olive oil and seasoning. Chances are they will come out good. You can always make a few in a test batch before doing the whole bunch of kale.

If you like the sauce chances are good you'll like the chips. If you don't just luv, luv, luv the sauce, I'd say: forget it!

I typed out a big ole long response to the recipe question and somehow it got lost. So briefly I will say ditto what Rawnitster and Annie said. I used two different recipes. I liked the first one better. Really any sauce that you like will make yummy chips! They are so versatile and delicious! Be creative and have fun.

Rawknitster,

Thanks for posting the recipe. That's essentially what I did, but since my kids aren't too fond of red peppers, I used tomatoes and dried tomatoes for even more flavor.

My dd has tasted the ones with red pepper and says she likes mine better, so I guess I succeeded.

I like them both.

Thanks again! I'm actually making some today or tomorrow for a "mainstream" homeschooling event, where there will probably be a couple hundred people, and will include recipe cards. I just love turning people on to raw!

Thanks again!
