Soak in water? I don't even know what a "brick of pitted dates" is. They come in bricks?

Can 'ya pull just what you need off and soak them? Or yeah, you COULD soak the entire brick, but then you gotta use 'em rather quickly...

What else would you be thinking of using?

I read somewhere (probably on this board!) that you can add a few drops of water to keep them soft. I keep mine in a ziploc and add a little water every few days. Works for me.

Well coconut water would be a dank alternative. Or any other sort of juice.

I have used a recipe where the dates were soaked in orange juice. Can't remember what it was for, but that's an alternative.

I would only use juice if I was going to use it in the recipe ~ or drink it after as it's usually drained, no?

Oh but of course, nothing gets thrown out in the doperaw kitchen.

Yes, that's right. Use whatever juice or liquid is called for in the recipe.
