View Full Version : one man's trash...

While walking my dog last night one of my neighbors had a pile of tree trimmings out for trash collection. Amongst all the palm fronds were tons of beautiful coconuts! I hobbled home and grabbed a knife and my canvas bags and biked back over and collected about 20 perfect gorgeous coconuts. I felt like a thief as I biked back home laden with bags of them hanging from my shoulders and bike basket! I still can't believe they were just thrown out like garbage...
The saddest part was all the tiny baby coconuts that were chopped from the trees before they had a chance to grow because someone thought the trees were prettier without their fruit... Another reminder of why I call us Floridiots and miss living in soCal :p

that's so great!!! amazing savings. people amaze me sometimes. When I lived in CA, we would see TONS of oranges in yards going to waste. They wouldn't let anyone get them bc they didn't want them in the yard.

I heard somewhere (maybe hgtv?) that people get rid of the coconuts because they can be a health hazard, like falling on peoples cars, and heads.
But great find for you, I am jealous. :)

This part got me laughing!!! :D I would have done the exact same thing, felt the same way, but I would be heading home in my car instead! And feel the same way that they were thrown out like that!
Thanks for sharing your lucky moment with us!

I think it just the part on the bike that overexaggerated that kind of a feeling a little bit.
It's all good, someone threw them out and you got really really lucky!! :)

Lucky free coconuts and a friend along with that would have been a bonus. :)

In Montana, about the only think people leave rotting on the ground is crabapples. Not too many takers for those, especially raw!
