Hey everyone. I've read lots of the threads concerning coconut oil and the wonders it works for acne, and a few weeks ago, I started applying it at night before bed (after washing with a natural cleanser) and sleeping in it, like a mask. For a week and a half or so, my skin was SO clear, clearer than it had been in months, and barely oily at all. But then I got one breakout...then another...and now my skin is horrible. I stopped using the coconut oil thinking that perhaps it was clogging my pores. Has anyone else had this problem?

I went through this almost the same way. I started using less CO & not every day. I think it was too heavy for my face. I use it every other day now & wash with very warm water in the am to get it off.

I just posted on your other thread as well.

I find it's really useful to track when breakouts happen. Over time I have realized that my skin is AMAZING and almost perfect during the summer, but then gets worse and worse over the winter. I attribute it to the air quality (dry, we use wood heat) and the lack of sunshine. I do take comfort in the fact that my skin sucks during the winter, but it'll improve again in the summer so I have that to look forward to. Before I figured this out I felt hopeless, but now it doesn't bother me quite as much b/c I have summer to look forward to.

I find it's hard to tell if something is working or not right away in terms of breakouts because there are so many factors: hormones, sunlight, stress, etc.

I would try to trust your instinct, but also try to keep track of when your worst breakouts happen.

I haven't tried coconut oil myself so can't comment on that specifically. Good luck and keep your head up. :)

Maybe avoid applying it on areas of your face where you break out the most. Coconut oil is the only moisturizer I use. My acne cleared after I started washing my face with Dr. Wood's Shea Vision liquid black soap.

Margoss, did your acne get better with less heavy use of the coconut oil? I've regressed back to using my topical medication from the derm. I really don't want to, but I went off it for a month or so and my skin was just terrible.
