View Full Version : Salads?
I got some romaine for salads (its the only kind of lettuce my husband likes for salads). I also purchased some grape tomatoes and carrots to use in salads. Now, we usually use italian dressing or asian seseme. What do raw vegans use as a "dressing" on their salads.
Oh and just an observation. I had a nice lunch of all raw carrots, raspberries, radishes, almonds, and had a bottled green smoothie from Bolthouse Farms. (flash pasteurized, but close enough), and I am absolutely satisfied and full of energy. I don't feel heavy and sluggish like I usually feel around this time of day.

oil (olive, hemp or flax), lemon/lime juice or apple cider vinegar, a little celtic sea salt and perhaps some sesame seeds and a clove of garlic chopped fine. blend it up and voila... salad dressing! i'll go do a search and see if there's a listing of some dressings here for ya.
Thanks. Is there a raw italian dressing recipe? I will have to go get myself some celtic sea salt and some cold pressed oil and such. We only went shopping for a day or two's worth of fruits and veggies. My mother in law is interested in juicing so hopefully sometime this month we will be getting a really nice juicer from where I work. :D Hmm, anything else I can put on a salad that is romaine, carrots, and grape tomatoes?

Dressing are easy to make. Dressings have three key components. Fat, Tart, & Sweet
Examples of fats: Olive oil, sesame oil, hemp seed oil, flax oil, almond butter, tahini, avocado
Examples of tart: lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, lime juice, orange juice, balsamic vinegar
Examples of sweet: honey, dates, agave, maple syrup
I pick one item from each catagory and blend in the Magic Bullet.
Optional flavoring ingredients to choose from: garlic, ginger, mustard, sea salt, and herbs of your choice (cumin & thyme is my fav herb combo).
My favorite and most popular dressing with friends is Olive oil, lemon juice, honey, garlic, ginger, and sea salt.
Start experimenting! You will never go back to pre-made dressings. :)

Here's the dressing I used today:
2 Fancy Granny Smith Apples (peeled and chopped)
Juice of 1/2 Lemon
Ginger (powdered)
Black Sesame (ground)
Golden Flax (ground)
Dulse Flakes (optional)
I make it a little thicker, somewhere between a dressing and a hummus, call it a cream if you will - a little more lemon juice/less seeds will thin it out. Today I spread it over romaine and my beet & apple relish. I absolutely love this dish.

Alissa's book has delicious dressings! If you don't have it, I would say it's a MUST!

Thanks everyone! I'll have to try these with my salads. Maybe I can convince hubby to switch over to a raw vegan dressing instead of his usual dressing. :D
