I am on day 14 of a water/apple juice/green smoothie fast, and my weight is UP five pounds. It happened when I started the liver flush, so I figured it was just temporary from the salt water flush, but I finished that Wednesday and it is now sunday and the weight is still hanging on. I am not really WORRIED about it per se, just irritated, as I am going through all this effort and wanted to see that scale go DOWN, not UP! Any ideas what my body is up to and how I can help it do what it needs to do? I am planning on breaking my fast on Thursday after doing another liver flush (no salt water flushes this time).

I do think I am going through detox....I have had a stinkin' headache for two days now and some generaly grumpiness and fatigue.

i'm guessing that it's the salt. you may be retaining some fluids from it.

perhaps up your water intake for a day and see if that assists?

It could be a detox from the GS's. I am UP almost 9 pounds now since the beginning of my smoothie fast, but I don't LOOK like I'm up nine pounds. yes I am a little bloated, but I am just going to put that down to some major clean-up work being done in my intestines. I'm sure it will get better for both of us!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this! Last time I did an 8 day fast, I lost weight every day, so this was weird.

Nothing whatsoever. 100% raw, and most days just fruits and veggies. I add a little sunflower seeds to my a.m. smoothie on the days I work just to have a little more staying power.....only about 4 days out of the 14 have I done that. On three of those days, just two quarts of apple juice!

I recently gained 5 lbs from GS too. I'd be ok with that if it were muscle but it's fat. From all my reading, I believe it to be faulty carbohydrate metabolism, because I was really tired a lot when drinking just GS. So my body was storing the carbs as fat instead of burning them for energy. A lot of people who try 80/10/10 gain weight too because it's basically carb-loading. Super-healthy carb-loading... But the successful 811ers exercise ALOT to burn all the carbs too.

So it all comes down to carb metabolism, which comes down to hormone function, which is faulty for most of us and extremely faulty in my case. I switched to more fat and protein, and even though I'm eating more, I'm losing the fat and have more energy, so maybe your body metabolizes like mine.

But after fasting my digestion is a lot better so a little fat is worth it!

Aleesha- no cooked things for me either!

Starting last night I have been experiencing an INSANE about of bowel cleansing, so I am pretty sure those five pounds were from THAT. if I weighed myself now I'd probably be 10lbs lighter. My body tends to do that right after a detox, go up a few pounds, "expel toxins", then BAM! weight loss.

I hope you're feeling better katchmoleen!

Well, I peed buckets yesterday an today I am back almost to where I was, so that's good. I wanted to be BELOW where I was  but that's ok. I decided to end my green smoothie fast today because I met my original goal of 14 days, and I also realized I was getting a bit obsessed and focused on my weight and was feeling frustrated.

I originally wanted to lose 40 pounds by Christmas, then I decided to do the GS fast and see if I could make it by Thanksgiving. I think my body is telling me, don't rush the process, and enjoy the journey.

I do not regret the fast at all. It showed me I have discipline, and I am sure it has done some healing in my gut. Just time to stop.

ah sounds like detox then. i forgot you are all putting 'food' into your body... so if you aren't pooping it out... yup, it retains weight.

soooooo pleased for you kath, great job!!!

I've been following your thread and you have been eating aaaaalot of fruits and in large quantities. You should have been putting using sprouts as your carb source instead of fruit if you wanted to lose weight

For me, no, only a couple of pieces of fruit a day, unless you count tomatoes and avocados as fruit. I had usually a couple of bananas a day and the rest savory smoothies. And I had greens with almost every smoothie, following Boutenko guidelines. I did lose weight. It came after the detox was done! Yay!

could also be seasonal.

not the body's most preferable time to shed weight

I wonder what would happen if you added a little bit of natural oil to your smoothies, like avacado, seasame, or olive oil. My hypothesis is that the toxins that are hanging out in your liver are lipophilic, or otherwise one would have urinated them out eons ago right? So, to pull these now circulating lipophilic toxins out, wouldnt you need a little bit of a fat or oil to complex to them and pull them along into the feces?

Just a thought...

I want to enter a juice fast to end the old year and enter the new year. So I would like to see more juicing recipes. There was a sub link around here, but not many recipes. I love juice and have gone through 2 blades on my juicer.

I fell off the raw wagon, gained 10 lbs of the 20 I lost while on raw, and now have to get my mind back into the game.

Happyily, my sis sent me 3 raw/green smoothie books for xmas (Green for life, Green Smoothie Revolution, and Simply smoothies!) Which are books I wanted to get myself but didnt...

I wouldn't eat any bananas if I wanted to get rid of weight,- well, actually I don't eat them anyways b/c I don't like them but:

smoothies are VERY filling and esp. if you put bananas in them, then...uh uh!

If you want to eliminate weight (like Revvell says :)) then just do a juice- or a water fast.

Enjoy the results ;)

Well, this was a couple of months ago, and I did just do juice, three days of just apple juice. I almost died, and that is when I gained the five pounds. It came off eventually, after I went back to food. Never again. Just green smoothies for me from now on. My body abviously does not like juice fasting.

why only apple? There are so many possibilities. Do whatever is right for you and enjoy :)

I would suggest hemp or flax oil.

I add ground flax to my smoothies which helps me have wonderful BM's (lol) which inturn helps me get rid of toxins & helps control my weight :)

I was doing the gall bladder flush which required large amounts of apple juice for the malic acid. However now I have discovered malic acid capsules and will do that next time as my body really did not like all that sweet juice.
