View Full Version : a MOVING experience...
Waring, possibly graphic post...
so i was listening to Bruce Fife (M.D.) talk about coconut oil the other day on the radio, and he was talking about how taking 3-4 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil a day can increase a person's metabolism by as much as 45-65%
i decided to give it a try last night...
i took 3tbs. on an empty stomach (he said it works either with food, or alone) late lastnight and...
WHOA!!! hahaha...
about half an hour later i felt my gallbladder begin to secret bile, not uncomfortably, but noticable...
15 minutes after that i had to RUN!! for the bathroom as my bowels decided to let go of some funk that was no longer welcome...
immeadiately after that my sinuses flooded, and wouldn't stop dripping for about 2 hours... my chest got tight, and i broke out into a sweat, and had loose bowels for about another 15 minuets...
:)
(in nemo's world these are all good things, because whatever that funk was we don't need it right?)
INSTA-DETOX!
well, i'm back to celery/ginger/lime-ade today... and chewin' my water...
(yesterday i had my first Larabar ever, and some nut pate with nori, 'n' greens, and not enough water...)
i'll let you guys know how it goes with the coco-oil... i'm going to wait until after work to try it again (because a gallon of snot coming out of my nose, and chest would not be too cute on the job)... if detox like this keeps up every time i try this i'll do some serious cleanses, and fasting before i go back to it...
have a day

WOW, Nemo,
I've never heard of that reaction before.
I use coconut oil in foods and recipes, but I've never just taken several Tablespoons straight.
I would think pretty much any kind of oil would do this, I mean go right through you.
I hope you are feeling better today.

I think you might be right there RP. MY brother-in-law uses olive oil to flush out his gallbladder, so maybe oil in general will do that to you.
Interesting!

I have that kind of experience when I eat too many fats, well I should say meat fats and oils. When I was lo-carbing I had extensive stomach problems. I was constantly in the bathroom, couldn't stay hydrated from all the water I was losing.
Even olive oil has this effect.
One thing I never understood is where I obtained all this liquid, but after reading your post I believe I may now know the cause. Bile.

isnt it kind of gross swallowing pure oil? I feel like I would throw it up right away or something.
hi folks the coconut oil i use is 'virgin de coco' very light, and tasty!!!
so no troubles going down... i've used this much oil in soups before (more even) and had no reactions.
when i did a liver cleanse the 8oz. of olive oil was pretty intense, very uncomfortable on my L/GB as mine is whacked out from my pre-raw years...
3 tbs. doesn't seem like all that much to me...
...maybe it was the chicken wings i had earlier
NOT!!! :D
seriously though, the sinus/chest thing was the STRANGEST... my L/GB were fine, like i said, i could 'feel' them working, but it wasn't uncomfortable... (unlike some cleanses, and fasts i've had where they dump HOT ACID bile, that burns, and well... you don't wanna know)
the evacuation out the other end was one thing... the sinus though? that's what was interesting to me...
i know that the sinus, and intestines are considered to be mirrors of each other in some holistic philosophies (mine are a mess... 5 years raw alone hasn't been enough to unsnarl them... it'll happen though.)
pretty wild... and fun, in a 'rather do this now than later' sort of way... hahaha...
if i keep having weird reactions i'll just incorperate the oil into my daily intake with soup or green juice or suchness... and see what kind of reactions i have... if i gain 30lbs. i'll know it was too much fat ;)
Fife talks about people in the carribean, and africa drinking a full cup, or even several when they feel like they're getting ill... which DOES seem like alot to me... and that it 'cures' them...

I think you were referring to the 3 tbs. of coconut oil that Nemo ate all by itself. But just in case you were referring to oil in general, well, yes, I agree, oil by itself would make me gag. :o
The effects of olive oil that I felt were after adding the oil as a dressing to salad or cooking with it.
Now, even the thought of the word 'oil' seems gross. It makes me wonder how I could have eaten so much of it before with nary a thought in the world as to how bad it may be for me or what effects it was having on my body.

I've ingested 1 to 2 T. straight of the same brand of coconut oil -- using it for its antibacterial & antifungal properties. I didn't the same reaction as you, though, nemo. Maybe it's just different bodies. Or ... perhaps we were at different places on the raw food path. How long have you been eating all raw (if you are, that is)? Maybe, if I do this again now, my body's do the same thing as yours? I don't use oil anymore, though, but ...
warning not a nice story, but well worth the ending.
I too have had an experience with oil, but the other end for me, guess it is all about where the detox needs to happen
Several years ago I did a cleanes that included raw fruit and raw veggies. No oils no vinegars nothing cooked and nothing fermented. Potatoes and bananas were also not allowed. No nuts no seeds ( I asked about protien and was told I could have all the grubs I wanted, I didn't)
I lasted 2 weeks, ate a lot, was always hungry always. At the end of the 2 weeks I had a shot, in a tequilla shooter of walnut oil, cold pressed mixed 50 /50 with lemon juice, fresh squeezed. 1 shot every 20 minutes until I couldn't do it any longer. I lasted 4 shots or 1 hour 20 minutes. Then my bowels went into convulsions, had to lay in the bath tub with the shower on me as my bowels let go of what looked like emeralds, or tiny green marbles. I stayed in the shower for 6 - 8 hours and just turned the water on when I need to rinse myself off.
Now until that point in my life I had been very ill, always. I was 24 years old Had just recouperated from a bowel resection 8 months earlier( the Dr.'s removed part of my bowel 3rd time in my life) and I was starting to have my bowel attacks again. The Dr's told me if it got accute again they would operate again. I found an alternative. It has been 17 years since I did that cleanse and I have not had another surgery.
I really believe that the raw fruit and veg was the tip of the detox for me, and I reitereate for me,before I did that cleanse. It was very violent to my person and to this day I gag at the thought of walnut oil, but after 24 years of spending so much time being sick, it was well worth it. :)
i've been raw for 5 years... 100%-90% (depends of if you count those gel caps, on my 'raw' supplements or not... i used to joke that i ate 70% raw, and 30% veggie gel caps...)
i've done some intestinal cleansing, and one liver flush... i honestly believe that cleanses can be an important adjunct to healing one's self on a raw diet.
i'll do more when i feel like it...
the anti-fungal/viral properties of coco-oil are excellent... i am consuming it for the increase in metabolism that dr.fife is talking about... just an experiement...

Congratulations on your long raw journey, nemo. I'm about 4 years behind you. Do you mostly mono-eat now? Or mostly juice? Or mono/fruitarian? Or ... ? I know where my long-time raw friends are -- by 3 years or so, most of them rarely if ever eat combined foods (raw gourmet cuisine), and they're either following natural hygiene laws, mono eating, or, a few of them are eating no solid foods.

Why do you need to take supplements
sport-i don't need to take supplements...i LIKE taking them. over the years i've come to believe that although they aren't necessary for human health, and healing, they could be USEFULL towards those ends. i also no longer believe that powders, pills, and isolated bottled goop are raw... they might have properties that can be helpful to an individual, but we've got to figure that out for ourselves...
RawTruth-oh i wouldn't say you're 'behind' me... who knows you could be in much better health, depending on where you started, eh?
lessee... um... i mono-eat greens... and chew each bite anywhere from 50-200x ...(200x is my ideal... it's a game right?) i juice LOTS o' celery with ginger, and the occasional red cabbage... i was doing a low glyciemic raw thing with low fats to boot...but taking this much coco oil bumps me up into the 'high fat' brackette all the NH 8/1/1 folks dread so much... i like making blended soups, but pretty much stay away from the gourmet stuff after several years of over eating it... (yuck)... if i'm bored i make a salad... but that's alot of time i could use towards other games i like to play... (instead of calling it work) so i usually just chew up a head of romaine, a handful of parsley, or a few black kale leaves...
....mmmm. i like using chinese herbal teas (heresy!!) MSM, and such things... and prefer to spend more time doing taiji, and qi gong than eating...
ooooh yeah, i also make it a daily personal goal to drink a gallon of 'charged' excellent quality water... somedays i make it... others... well, you know.
everybody's different...

everybody's different...That's my mantra.
I'm looking to find a qi gong master. Too bad you're not on this coast so you could refer me.
can't comment on his qi gong products, but i like Peter Ragnar's philosophy, and style... you could check out his 'magnetic qi' products and see if they appeal to you at all...
just a thought

all the talk that resurfaces over and over on supplements, I have to say, nemo, that is the best comment I have heard yet on supplementation..
And I have never heard anyone say "if i'm bored i make a salad" ! ;)
I am curious to know what you thought/noticed taking MSM?
"everybody's different"
and good thing too! It keeps life amusing. :p
everybody's different...
ipso facto... Nobody is 'normal'! :D

It sounds to me as though you experience a liver/gall bladder cleanse and those little emerald green marbles were gall stones. I'm happy to here your health has improved!
