I always keep frozen fruit in the freezer in case im running late in the morning or fancy a fruit smoothie. I use tropicana (not from concentrate) orange juice as a mixer. It just dawned on me that this is probably pasteurized? This means the juice has lost lots of its vitamins and enzymes?
I used to only use orange juice I squeezed myself - im sure i must of know about that back then!

Are the 'freshly squeezed' orange juices treated in any way? What orange juice to you buy if any?

I would like to have something sweet to be the liquid side of my smoothie. think water might dilute all the sweet taste away;)

thanks

yes, unfortunately, most store bought juices are pasteurized. It's best the check the label, it will most likely always say so.

You can certainly taste the different between fresh and pasteurized juices--I juice grapefruits and it's divinely sweet, bright pink, and slightly bitter, but when you buy Odwalla grapefruit juice-- BLECH! it's soooo bitter and cloudy and ugly! it's like night and day!

Absolutely!

... and, it's life force.

See above. How "fresh" can they be? Could be 2 years old for all we know.

About 4 cases of oranges every month.

Make it happen.

thanks guys,

yeah I have already ruled out not buying anymore orange juice again. The 'freshly squeezed' orange juice I was referring to Revell is the type some stores do that actually looks like it has been freshly squeezed. Sometimes it seperates. But I think when I get my new omega vrt I will happily make some freshly squeezed orange juice.
Anyone know any machines to mass peel oranges? :D

maybe try unpasteurized cider, instead of OJ in the smoothies? if you can get it. its the right time of year anyway if you live near an orchard.

Recently, at an airport near you....

I purchase 32 oz of freshly sqeezed OJ from jamba juice for about 6.50. Not too bad of a price. May be cheaper in a non-airport setting.

Maybe you could get one of these every 3-4 days for your smoothies....?

No, but there is a simple device for juicing citruses where peeling is not necessary.

Just cut your orange/lemon/lime/grapefruit in half and mash/squeeze the half down on that protuberance. Then strain any pulp if preferred. Matteroffact the juicer pictured above looks like it has somewhat of a filtering mechanism. This machine also doubles as hand exercise trying to press out every last drop of juice, I really get freaky with it.
