Just received lab work back and my thyroid is way high. Does anyone here have or have had hypothyroid? I know Veganforlife, you have had an underfunctioning thyroid and got off your meds (woohoo for you!!!) Has anyone had an overfunctioning thyroid. I meet with the doctor Wednesday and I want to know that I can do without meds with eating raw. FYI: I'm only about 50% raw.

Any encouragement/advice would be so appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, I was hyperthyroid. My doc wanted to immediately ablate (kill) with RAI (radioactive iodine), but I insisted on a several month reprieve to try to bring it in line with medication (I don't recall what the RX was for this). To no avail.

Not knowing any better, I allowed the ablation. Twice. (sigh) He really had me scared. I'm now hypo ofcourse and am on Armour thyroid. I remember this doctor telling me - we'll have you feeling so good in just 3-6 months. Liar liar pants on fire. I since stopped going to him when he refused to give me Armour instead of one of the synthetics.

My current (holistic) MD said to me, "That's a shame your thyroid was ablated, I could have balanced it in about 10 weeks."

My advice would be - call around and ask before having it ablated, if that's what your MD is wanting to do.

Is that your TSH number? If so, it actually indicates hypo- or underactive thyroid. The higher your TSH, the more underactive your thyroid is.

i had my thyroid removed due to a mass. i take synthroid. my number has been as high as 10 (hypo) and as low as 0.02 (undetectable, slightly hyper).

we change my dose accordingly and cannot figure out why i fluctuate. frustrating. i eat healthy and predominantly raw and still have this issue...

i am jealous of others who miraculously heal.

That is true if your TSH is High the you are Hypo.....the labs are inversely proportionate. I would go on Armour.....it's out of stock in CO currently but soon to be restocked. Check around for an alternative doc whos specialty is Endocrine disorders. I hope your doc ordered the full Thyroid panel and not just TSH......you need Free T3 & Free T4 to determin if you convert T3 to T4 and this is why Armour is so good for this type of issue.
Hope this helped....

I do have an underactive thyroid. I told my doc today that I didn't want to take meds and what would happen if I didn't. He told me that I would start feeling really bad and gain a lot of weight. So Armour? Okay I'll look into that. However, I really want to just help it with diet but it's looking like it's not going to help.

He didn't run the T3/T4 test for my physical, just the tsh this time around. He's going to do that when I return in 4-6 weeks for a retest of my thyroid to see how the meds do. (I am not going to fill the prescription though in the meantime. I understand Maca and coconut oil is supposed to do great things for this.

Thank you for your responses! Keep it coming. ;)

Armour is from a pig's thyroid in case you don't know...

Why not take the plunge and go 100% raw. Give that a go and see how you feel. You may not need to take anything.

From what I'm finding though is that diet alone won't heal the thyroid that it will eventually burn out. Is this true? I want to believe I can just go 100% raw and balance my thyroid.

Lucy (Veganforlife) has a post on here about how she was able to get off her thyroid meds, and I have heard or read several other testimonials. It didn't happen overnight, and you might be wise to start on meds because you will feel so much better (that TSH is really high) but that is up to you.
