O.K. I am running the San Antonio marathon on November 15th and it's crunch time! I did a 16 miler today-wanted to do 20 but just got burned out:rolleyes: I thought if I started a thread where other runners could share I could stay motivated! any takers?

Yes please. I would love to join this thread.
I am nowhere as advanced as you though. I would love to train for a marathon and it is a goal for the future at the moment I am training towards a 5km run followed by a 10km. I love running but can slack off a bit  I did 7.6 km on the treadmill today.

I'm in, but am taking a little break from marathon training because my hip is killing me . . . still cycling for cardio, and weight training of course.
Still, I would like to hang out with you all in the meantime if that's okay.

yes yes yes....the more the merrier!
revdrcyn-Your hip may be sore from tight hip flexors. Maybe try stretching them out by sitting on an exercise ball and rolling forward (hard to describe without a visual.) Also, muscle imbalance will cause soreness. How's your balance?
I agree that cross training makes all the difference so you are doing the right thing!
I can't believe I have a marathon in 2 weeks...not exactly "ready" but I guess I am....I was 100% raw from August '05-August '08 then I just "fell away" off and on....I just "re" committed to 100% raw on October 18th so I am beginning to feel the veil lifting away but could kick myself for straying for so long and slacking.....I am using this marathon as a re-start to my raw life. I'll be about a month at 100% by then so I hope I'll be diet ready! and the weight is BEGINNING to budge....I easily gained 10-20 pounds! I am hoping I will lose a few more before the race but not too concerned. It'll be what it'll be. I weigh more than most at my height (5'8") simply due to muscle content and I have to remind myself to go by the way my clothes fit rather than a number!
Today is my rest day! also a good thing I have learned with age!!!!
Sunday is our worship day anyway so what better way to rest!
God is good!
Have a great day!

I'm so excited for you. I just ran my first about two weeks ago and know the excitment they are going though. I have recently gone back to raw. I fell off track while training and gained a good 15lb during the months of June- Oct.. Now I'm getting back to my raw life and hoping to do a half in March and a full again next fall. I know it would have been so much easier on my body had I not gained the 15lbs but for some reason I got so hungry and didn't grab my green smoothies like I wanted to. I ended up eating bagels and fruit. I'm 5'7" and workout six days a week so I know about muscle content. I know my body would have loved me more and I would have loved myself more knowing I was giving it the best raw foods possible. When I began my training in May I had weighed 167lbs and maintained a 75% raw lifestyle. I had been a good 90% raw since Feb. Then slowly but surly I started to eat more non raw and my body paid the price. Now I'm in gear again to clean up my life with raw food and get it together again. I know it's a journey but I wish I would learn raw is the only way. I am so proud of you and wish you the best. It was the best experience. I can't wait to do it again. This time I hope to stay raw the entire time I train.

Well... I had my rest day yesterday and the today I went to the gym after my exam. I was planning to run 4 miles but had a headache so only managed about two and a half. Never mind. There is always tomorrow!

Today was a 4 mile run for me. My back is a bit sore from yoga yesterday but that is a good thing. It just goes to show me I need to add in more yoga again. Off to a nice glass of green smoothie somthing. It depends on what I have in there. Collards sound good. :)

I dont know HOW I could even think of running if I didnt eat raw. I am 50 years young and my body needs living energy!!! Sat I went to a party and had some wine (stuck with mostly raw food there) and I gotta tell you.
I had run with my daughter and did well...first time out for a while. Uphill and everything. Well after that party..well two days later(yesterday), I just didnt have what it took to run much at all.
But I WENT and I gave it my BEST!!! Cant imagine I am training for a race...not sure its a race, think its just a run. phew.

I'm in too. I could use some motivation and support. It's getting cold here in Chicago and I will be moving my runs to indoors soon. I have a hard time breathing in cold weather because of asthma. I really love running outside so it is not as easy to pull myself out of a warm bed to go run at the gym. However this winter I am determined to do so. Last year I stopped running when it became too cold (around mid December) and when I started again this spring I couldn't believe what bad shape I had fallen into. So this year I joined the gym with the specific intent to run there in the winter.

I am so glad all of you are posting and we all relate! I have so much in common with each of you so I think we can keep motivating each other to push on and push through "our pain";)
On Tuesday I did a similar interval workout and yesterday I was TIRED (I usually am on Wednesdays???) so planned on walking but ended up "upping the pace" and still ended up running so that is good. Today I will probably run-walk again....If it were later in the day and I were outside I would do a steady run but on the treadmill I have to "mix it up and play games or I "CHEAT" (hold on:eek:) or just walk....gotta mix it up when you're on the "dreadmill"
I do not usually eat anything BEFORE my run because essentially it's still the middle of the night and I am just not hungry! I get up at 3 a.m. (much easier now that I am back to 100% raw) and do computer work or "kitchen/laundry stuff" for over an hour...I try to be on the treadmill by 4:30 and have to wrap it up around 6 a.m. to get ready for my day (teacher).
I do drink quite a bit of water upon wake up and have a cup of tea (hey-I kicked the coffee habit and love yogi tea!) Sometimes I have kombucha (I brew my own).....After my SWEATY workout I have more water-followed or preceded by a shower and usually a smoothie I throw together as I head out the door with my "concoction" of superfoods in it----currently: maca, acai, flax meal, frozen banana/berries---sometimes raw cacoa powder...) I bring fruit for "breakfast" and a salad/veggies (cucumbers) for lunch w/homemade dressing and plenti of nutri-yeast-love it......I graze on the fruit and entertain the teachers with my unique lunches-sometimes I share! I usually have a lara bar and kombucha at the end of the school day. For dinner I may have a "fancy recipe" from a raw book or something with flax bread-which I love-but tend to overeat!.....usually avocado / raw fat at dinner.....all in a dya....sometimes a raw treat/dessert too....I try not to eat after 6 p.m. because I get up so early and it avoids "digestive" issues...
During a long run I don't usually eat much either-I do drink water though. In a long run I have mixed agave into it and have brought dates/a lara bar with me just in case I want something. Also, in a marathon I always crave juicy fruits like oranges-they don't always have them but if you give your family member spectators something then you REALLY look forward to and hope to see them along the way!
OK, hope that helps those who asked.....Have a great day...

This week M-F I ran mostly intervals....about 90 minutes is what I have time for....Today is my "long run" but since my marathon is actually next Sunday it is not a "strenuous" one....I am doing it for "feet time" not mileage. It's good top train your body to be in motion for the estimated time you think you'll be running the marathon....In my golden days that would be 3 1/2 hours....now add an HOUR! But hey, that's ok, I can watch t.v. it's early and I will be so caught up on the news and TV I could take over CNN!!!!
I have had a great RAW week too and am feeling stronger and healthier EVERY SINGLE DAY! Let's see I re-committed Oct 18th so that makes today is day 20! No wonder! WooHoo.....
Happy trails...
Now where are all the runners on this thread? Come on people get going!

This is a cool thread! The reason I run because it challenges myself and gives me a sense of accomplishment when I finish races. I run mainly 5k's and 10k's and it is nice because it is something my sister and I do together. We go to the races together and not run together-she is way faster than me. We are running the turkey trot race on thanksgiving morning (5 miles) we have never done that race-should be fun. My goal is to run my first half marathon in May.
Good luck (turtle avatar- can not remember your name sorry) with your marathon coming up-I am sure you will do fine. Yes, it is hard right now, but just think of all the training you have been doing and think of the great feeling when you cross that finish line!
Lastly, I recently purchased one of those road ID bracelets and here are some quotes from their website. One mile at a time-winners never stop-pain is temporary-quiting lasts forever-pain is weakness leaving the body-keep on pushing-and focus and finish-these are saying people engraved on thier bracelets along with their information.

Well yesterday we hiked a mountain. My daughter started running down. I started running and her hub and friend started running too. It was a hoot. Climbing felt a chore kind of and a bore...haha not really, it was beautiful.
But running down was sooooo exhillirating. We ran a long way. My son in law thought they might all stop and wait for me, I cam down around and blasted right past them He said he was blown away....the power of greens...haha.
So I am seeing how I can train so as to do this run in the spring. A good incentive to stay fit in colder months.

I just got in from my run! Whoooo-eeee invigorating for sure.!!! I am blissed out! Was beautiful and serene by the river. And the stretching on the monkey bars felt good after.
As a bonus, I swang high on the swings like a lil kid! That was the best!!!
I felt inspired today by Revs post about the 42 yr old in the park and the 80 sumtin lady. I thought of them the whole time. that was inspiration for a good run! Thankx Rev.

Yeah I want to do a race sometime soon. I did 5km again today and again it felt short. I am a slow runner at the moment so it took me about half an hour but todays I did a few minutes at 12, 13, 14 km per hour (7-9 miles) to spice it up a bit and the the heart going some more. It was great fun. :)Tomorrow is resting for me and that is good cause I have an exam on Saturday which I neeeeeed to study hard for. I will probably end up going for a short walk/jog round the neibourhood though if I get cabin fever!
Saturday I will be either running happy IF the exam goes well or running out the stress and shaking the term if it doesn't. Either way I know I will feel better afterwards!!! It is a long(ish) run Saturday... 11.2km which I think will probably take me about 80 mins. Then I think I will have a bit of a dress up and go to town and celibrate exams being over although I wont be able to be out too late as I start work at my new job(retail ergh!) at 845 Sunday.
Life is busy, life is good!

I can't believe I forgot to update you all! ((sorry:rolleyes:)). I ran the San Antonio Marathon (TX) on Sunday! I did it in 4:51-a far cry from my pr of 3:37 but that was before I broke my leg and had 2 surgeries and 4 years ago! I am proud because I DID NOT WALK! It is the first race since breaking my leg that I think I did not take breaks. I think as I continue with my back to raw journey my running will improve! Yesterday was Month 1 at 100% raw after my 1+ year hiatus + 20 poulnd weight gain! So far I have lost 10 of it but 10 to go and I could feel it along the marathon route!!! All in all it was a great run and I met some great people! I am "resting" this week but twitching to run again. I am FORCING myself to wait at least another day and focusing on sleep-something I often neglect! I am getting hyper though so I think I may go for a run tomorrow!
just checking in!:D

Here to refresh this thread. In it ~ to win it! ;) I'll have to go back & read all of the posts later though. A brief introduction:
I started running again last Feb. 09, I got to the point of running 5-8 miles/day, than had a toe injury. Off of running for a couple 2-3 weeks. Than had motivational issues, than started again, than had a knee injury. Off again for about a couple of months, than started intervals until snow & ice hit. Off again for a shorter time, until I moved & came across a Treadmill, than pain in the other knee (same pain) so for the last two months I've been working with a Physio-Therapist to strengthen the muscles that were causing the knee's to hurt. Back to interval running again inside on the tread. :)

i would love to join this thread. I'm currently training for a half marathon on May 31st. Would love some extra support. I am probably 60% raw right now, would like to be 100% but I just get really hungry when I run a lot.
Any advice on good breakfasts or lunches to keep you satisfied throughout the day? I know there are so many options, but any favorites?
I feel re-inspired to go back to 100% raw.
