OK, I have been raw for almost 5 months now, and after the first few weeks have really not struggled with cravings. Even doing a 3 day water fast followed by five days of smoothies was not a problem. Well today I am on day 4 of this particular water/smoothie fast, and it is the CLOSEST I have come to caving while cooking for my family. I don't know what the problem is. I mean, yes, I am a great cook ;) but I have been cooking all along and have not been tempted. But yesterday and today it all smelled soooooooo gooooooood and I just really wanted to sit down with a big ol' plate of _________ and dive in. I did not, though I confess I did dip a finger in the gravy. What is going on?????:eek:

Hi Kathamoleen, this is totally a common happening. With raw , life and your body and what you eat changes all the time. Also your cravings may come and go. The reason is because as these are detoxxing and leaving the body (things you have eaten in times past) its almost like they give one last hurrah and raise their voice. This makes you feel like you want these foods.

If you wait it will pass. Time usually is your best friend in this. It passes. best to you ...you are doing super!

rawrawks is right. Those dern cravings are addictions. Temptations that are very hard to break. DO NOT CAVE. It WILL pass!
Drink a green smoothie or water and lemon...

Tonight I made a smoothie of 2 bananas, 3 dates, sunflower mylk, and cacao nibs. I totally NEVER have this kind of stuff, but I figured it was time for the Big Guns! :D

it happens. i find that getting my mind focused on something else really helps, although since you are cooking at the time that's a bit more difficult. but if you (for example) focused on your breath. breathe in... feel your lungs filling and then hold your breath for a moment before completely exhaling. once again, hold for a moment and then refill your lungs.

allow your mind to let go of it's focus on the food and refocus on anything else.

when i'm not cooking... i take a bath, go for a walk, meditate, do some yoga, rebounding etc. read a book... brush the dogs... anything to take my mind off the food.

After I went raw I had some cravings for the old foods and I mostly resisted them but a few times I "slipped" and ate the dead food. Most of my slips I managed to get the brakes on fast and returned to all raw but two of them got away from me as I moved from all raw to high raw and continued down the slippery slope to where my percentages became quite dismal. My first "biggie slip" ended after about 6 weeks and I returned to all raw by will power and starting over again. The second "biggie slip" had a surprising ending. It started out the same but it ended quite differently. After a couple of weeks of escalating percentages of dead food I realized that the junk food wasn't tasting good and I rejected it as something I didn't want or like. At that point I stopped eating any more junk and easily returned to an all raw diet. I havn't been bothered by cravings since I learned that my body really dosn't want or appreciate cooked foods as much as it appreciates live, healthy, raw foods. Now I know.

I've been lucky in that I haven't had too many cravings. I also cook for my family and have been blessed in that lately it simply doesn't smell good to me. However, when I am hit with a craving or wonderful cooked smell, I shift my focus to how great I am feeling. I also really dig deep to see if it really is my body wanting this or if it is a tastebud or comfort kind of thing. My body feels SO much better being raw that it really helps me to focus on that.

Way to roll out the big guns! You are doing GREAT!
