So I am doing my second juice fast but my life has changed a lot since my first juice fast. The main difference is I have started running, not just running but running barefooted. After 40 years of arch supported hell I decided I really didn't want more ankle, knee, foot and lower back pain from running so I shed my shoes, OH what a feeling, but I digress...

So the main difference between my first fast and now is I am much more active. My legs and feet are rebuilding the muscles that haven't been used in, maybe never... My issue is this, I don't want to stop running but I have a need to eat, I am not hungry per-se I just have a guttural need. I have had a 16day fast and many 32hour fasts and I have never felt like this. I have a 5lb bag of Chia seeds and every time I see it all I want to do is grab and eat... I also have Bee pollen in my pantry and that is giving me the same effect. I have found satisfaction is making MISO soup and straining off everything and drinking the broth.

So now that I have written two paragraphs I should get to my question... Can I incorporate bee pollen and or Chia into my fast? Both are amazing sources of protein and I have to believe my major drool sessions when I see them have to be telling me something.

Please let me know your thoughts...

bee pollen is part of the juice feasting protocol... so i would say yes to that. chia seeds will keep your digestion active... so you won't be fasting per say.

that said... it's your fast and you get to make the rules... (there are no fasting police) so make it what YOU want.

but a traditional fast... no it would not be accepted. upping your juice consumption would be the 'correct' answer.

I did end up taking in a few handfuls of bee pollen and chasing it with water. My hunger was satisfied. I think I need to start adding bee pollen into my routine esp after a run.

I will work on getting more juice in me and seeing if that helps.

Thanks,

I hope it does help. These messages from the body are important, and I hope you and your wife can finish your 7 day cleanse. I like your blog, too! I prefer being barefoot most of the time, but never really considered it for running. Eventually I want to run again and will check out the book!

Well I ended up breaking the fast at the end of day for, the body was screaming, bananas became my next obsession. I was really happy with the results but such is life, there is always next time.

Duane,

do you know about Vibram Five Fingers shoes? They are designed to replicate Barefoot Running. I am experimenting with these in my training:
