View Full Version : Has Anyone Caught the Flu.....

I'm just wondering...
Personally, I don't do believe in getting vaccinations/flu shot, etc. (and that was long before the raw vegan journey). I'm just curious to know for if any of you have caught the flu (either one). I really don't have a way to "proove" it but I really think the natural protection that comes from eating nutrient and enzyme rich foods as we do is a great protector for these super bugs...

I just keep hearing about this so-called epidemic in every social circle and everywhere I go...just wondering if any of my raw vegan friends have been impacted by it.

Have a great day!

No, I didnt know anyone threw it..hahaha just kiddin.
I have heard of many people catching something (like death) from taking the vaccine. Guess the flu isnt to be feared so much after all is it? hmmmmmm

This is a great question and I"m wondering if I have it. I am sitting under Aleeshas' Grandmother tree drinking water and watching everyone have fun without me!!

I won't be a guinea pig to the flu shot!! NO WAY JOSE!!

Isn't the flu just detox, anyways?? OR, is it really a virus. I seem to recall maybe it was Revvel or veganforlife that said once it was all detox...but I'm not sure so please don't quote me on that.

I think someone's definitely "throwing" it but that's a whole different can of worms..:D

I personally know many people who have experienced it and keep hearing more and more stories circulating around. One person I know died last month( cousin, 38) from complications to his respitory system while battling the H1N1 flu..he was not a raw vegan

While transitioning from grad school and the fact that our former governor cut social services 50% in my program, I was blessed with the opportunity to temporarily teach some fun loving two year-olds (that was a great 8 weeks) for a teacher who was on maternity leave...Anywhoo I arrived at work one week to discover that some of these little people (no one in my room) had come down with it...One little boy just returned but he was down and out for quite a bit. It's funny in a way to see all the little two year olds (and even the toddlers) coughing into the bend of their arms.

I believe that 100%/High Raw Vegan living is a natural barrier to this "flu" - man-made or made up (well, again that's another can of worms :D).. I'm also an herbalist at heart - could never turn my back on my herbals (though i catch some slack about that because of the heat processing that some leaves goes through). When I was a SAD eater I never got sick, the flu, chicken pox, strep, measles....any of that stuff that I hear about. I keep getting these warnings about the doom that lies ahead because I was get the precautionary shots because "you're going to get it, no one can escape it" - so they say...The last time I was sick was in the fall of 1990 -remember those 24 hours vividly. I credit that to my herbs and essential oils which contributed to my discovery of this path, my raw vegan journey.

My detox journey has never resembled the flu stuff so I don't know but no shots for me, that question popped into my head as I was pondering various things earlier this morning - seriously, I would be very surprised to meet a 100%/high raw vegan with this (meaning someone who system wasn't already comprised or in a state of healing from another issue)

Well, that's it Raw friends... Have a super duper Tuesday, it was nice chatting (having been on in a while)

I don't get normal illnesses like that and haven't in years. The last time I did was because my immune system was compromised due to a combination of pesticides & living with someone sick. Probiotics later built up my immune system to where I could actually live with someone sick and take care of them and never get it from them. This was pre-raw. Now I'm able to protect myself immediately in that situation. A couple of weeks ago, someone used a very toxic cleaner (Love how they state how non-toxic these products are. If it's not natural, it's toxic.). I'm so sensitive, that I could feel myself getting sick. So I had some garlic capsules and probiotics and felt fine. It's really suppose to be as simple as that.

I'll try to find the post I received but it was from a MD who said that he & his family will not get it. It has similar components to what the military was treating for with Gulf War Syndrome, could cause MS & many other things. This was a very prominent physician. He suggested, Vit D-C, warm water/herbal teas bc the warmth is better for the body in the winter. Hand washing & being aware of the environment we're in. If someone is sick or has been sick recently, stay away.

My family has had first hand exposure to a known victim of H1N1. He has been in the ICU on a respirator for four weeks. It is tragic but rare. He is my age, 54 or so. He also got Hantavirus 8 years ago so he obviously has a problem with his lungs. Anyway, we all have gotten a viral illness since being exposed to him and his family, we have all had a mild viral illness. i ran a fever and had a sore throat and headache. It lasted a couple of days. I do believe our high raw/no junk diet makes a difference.

I can attest that swine flu is real, but it is being blown hugely out of proportion, and the deaths that are happening are a very small portion, and are usually from secondary infections and other chronic illnesses.

I rarely wash my hands.... only when they're obviously dirty ~ say, after doing ground engagement or gardening ~ or before preparing food.

Hum..just an interesting thought to add...

Enzymes are a key component of our immune system. Proteolytic enzymes in particular target the protein shell in the outside of the virus, literally digesting them so that our body's immune system will have an easier time detoxifying and eliminating them.

That being said, eating plenty of raw, fresh, enzyme rich foods will spare the digestive load on our pancreas, providing our metabolic system more enzymes to support immunity.

In my opinion, this is why eating raw can be a boon for immunity and metabolism. So while eating raw foods may not give us immunity to the flu virus, it certain increases our chances of fighting it off.

On another note, here is an awesome link to an NPR produced video explaining how the flu virus works...This was part of a recent RadioLab show.

Cheers to good health.

I wash mine if I have been in the supermarket even though I never catch the push rail on the trolley. I push it from the side and must look like a right ninny doing it.
One day I crashed in to a display case of some containers of creamy stuff and some of them broke. I was a victim of the "clean up on aisle 4" that you see on the telly.

Well, since I work in an office that houses like 100 people who all use the stairs, elevators, push open doors, bathroom doors, etc. and most of them come in sicker than sick, I wash frequently.

Oh yes. I stay home ensconced in my shiny white tower and never go to the grocery or various other stores or networking meetings where hundreds, if not thousands of other people, sick and otherwise, go. Actually, went to two grocery stores just this morning. Oh dear. *looks at me hands as I'm eating raspberries from one said grocery store* Should I have washed them?
