I am water fasting today and want to start a green smoothie fast tomorrow. I am thinking two weeks though that is not set in stone. I just want to get a little lighter and more energetic before the holiday season arrives. So if anyone wants to join me, chime in!

Definitely! I'm on my fourth day of my green smoothie fast. I'm going to go and go and go until my body asks for something else.
You will LOVE it! My skin has already cleared, certain cravings are slowly going away, and I have SO much energy..not to mention I am sleeping like a rock!
Do you have any goals for your GS fast? Other than being lighter and energetic, though those are both fantastic goals as it is!
Mine are to reintroduce certain exercises that I am neglected, clean my self out a little more, and become more focused on my major life's goals. A lot of mental clearing out is needed.
So far today I've had two GS.
B: spirulina, 3 cups spinach, 1/2 cup berries, 1 apples, sprig of mint
L: Apple, spinach, mint, dandelion.
I've got about 6 cups of dandelion stocks all chopped and ready to go for this evening as well.
I hope we get some others roped in as well... I LOVE green smoothies and it would be great to share that with others.

Hi, Adrienne, thanks for joining me! I am at the end of my day 1 water fast and am looking forward to smoothies in the morning. I'm HUNGRY!
I actually will wait as long as possible for the first smoothie, as I am often not hungry in the morning, even while fasting. But I need to go shopping as I am all out of every green. The only green things in my fridge are celery and green peppers. So celery it is in the morning! With frozen bananas.

Morning!
I hope you get some great stuff on your shopping trip! I go crazy in produce sections haha
Only water and an orange flavoured tea so far. I'm going to juice a LOT of carrots in a bit and use that as the liquid in my smoothies for the next few days. I'm planning on LOTS of kale in today's smoothies, I may even up my spirulina to 1 TBSP rather than a TSP. I haven't had any adverse effects from it as I know some do...hopefully it will stay that way! My skin looks so good right now from it!
This morning has been fairly productive! Woke up, and began cleaning without even noticing it. Just finished now! I got the pets all taken care of as well, so all I have let to do it eat! I'm starting to love having shifts later in the day, I get so much done!
I have a lot of tummy grumbles this morning though. The smoothies are working their magic, let's hope that "magic" is done it's work by the time I get to work!
Are you going to be keeping your smoothies very simple, or adding any powders, etc?
have a great day!

I do not have any superfood powders or anything, so mine will just be food. :D Hey, I found some lettuce in the back of the fridge, yaya, so I was able to have a green smoothie with green leaf lettuce and frozen bananas. It was so yummy.

Hi Katchmoleen! Today my body led me to water fast. I have never water fasted before, so I was wandering about the fasting thread and here you are! I'm thinking I might water fast for 2 more days but plan on really listening to my body and taking my cues from it. After water fasting I'm thinking to start with fresh oj and then move into green smoothies.
Is it alright if I hang out here with you two?

Hey Adrienne, good to see you here again, how are ya?xx

Thanks both of you for joining us! The more the merrier. I really hope I can go two weeks, so with support I think it will be easier.
I went shopping today so have what I need for the next few days.
I got a little low blood sugar while shopping so I had to eat a carrot :o but other than that it was smoothies all the way.
For lunch I had the rest of the raw chili I made on Sunday, and I added some lettuce. It had gone bitter since Sunday so was not the best.
Right now I am drinking a smoothie of spinach, banana, and strawberry. It is DIVINE, if a little cold. We are in a snowstorm right now! I am going to go take a hot bath when I am done here.

Count me in. That sounds like just the thing I need. It will be easier than having to make something and prepare it. Excellent suggestion...

katchmoleen- simple is always great! My spirulina and coconut oil are what I consider my "supplements" haha. And oh how I envy your frozen banana smoothies! This is the first week since I went raw that we couldn't do our regular shopping trip schedule...and I'm all out of bananas! Usually every 5 days or so..I have to wait 'till friday now *pout* Darn those payday schedules!
And don't feel bad for the carrot, be happy it gave you all it's nutrients! I'll admit I've had a few apples so far aside from my GS's. Just chew VERY well, it's satisfying!
I cannot wait 'till I get one of those wind-screeching-snow blowing-everywhere storms! I love winter! Especially when I can sit snuggly inside with my GS while I watch out the window.
Nubianess- I am doing fantastically! The first 3-4 days were torture, I had such a want for a certain SAD/CRAP food, but as of yesterday I can think of it without wanting it! Very freeing! A little too much energy yesterday though, I could not stay still long enough to sleep for the life of me! I hope you're feeling just as good.
somelikeitraw and kherd2- great have you both!
Yesterday I had two smoothies with spirulina, 3-4 cups kale and 2 cups of carrot juice and water in each one. SO freaking delicious I am in love! After work I had 1 head romaine, 4 cups spinach, 3 cups kale, 1/2 cucumber, and a few apples all together. Oh and 3 cups carrot juice. THAT lasted me all night 'till almost 1 am! I am starting to love the nearly fruit-less smoothies, very satisfying right now.
oh, and as I posted earlier, I upped my spirulina. Quite a bit of light headedness for an hour or two which was unexpected. Though I am having hard time deciphering if it was actually a light headed feeling, or my head was just buzzing from so much energy. I got SO much work done last night :|
Toodles all! Have a great and green day!

Morning everyone, I have not had anything to eat yet, just sipping on a cup of Yogi Detox tea. It is yummy. The good news is that I am already down 2 pounds, bringing my total raw weight loss to 35 pounds. Yay me! But I am detoxing quite handily, so that is no fun. Running to the bathroom a lot and felt very foggy headed this morning upon awakening. but that goes with the territory. Better to detox than to keep that stuff inside me, right?

I am sipping on my third green smoothie of the day. I feel better than I did but still not a lot of energy (and my house shows it!).
This smoothie is spinach, strawberries, a banana, and an avocado. It is pretty good, despite the weird combination.
I am so glad Aleesha unearthed the 70 green smoothies thread. I am going to print it out and see if I can try quite a few.
AdrienneD
10-29-2009, 01:00 AM
I was just looking through the 70 Green Smoothies thread, so many of them have citrus, pineapple, or mango! *whine* Oh well!
Today I've had in total 2 cups spinach, 2 romaine heads, 1 head kale. About 8-10 apples in total with all that.
I am detoxing SO horribly today. I woke up with the greatest intentions of enjoying a nice walk after work, a light weight training session, then a nice big smoothie to wind down with.
I got NOTHING done today. I did get through my shift at least, bu once I got home I pretty much did not move from my nest of blankets and pillows. I've realized I MUST stretch or at least tense my muscles when I do this, I feel stiff after just ten minutes or so. Especially my hands.
All day I've had such a dry mouth, sore throat, raised temperature mixed with random chills, bloating, cramps (menstrual, which makes this detox so much better! HA!), near migraine headache, diarrhea on and off all night, and I feel like I just CANNOT get full. I have been drinking so much, lots and lots of water as well as fresh carrot juice. Even now my mouth is dry and my hands feel stiff like I'm dehydrated.
I'm going to use what Aleesha always says and focus on the bad stuff coming out and how great I'll feel after this. Better out than in! At least this is a great sign the greens are working their magic.
Second night in a row though I'm up so late. I was so close to sleep earlier, then BAM! Surge of energy...
I'm off to have a nice warm shower to hopefully calm myself down for a good night's rest.
I get my glasses tomorrow and at least I have an evening shift so I can sleep in! YAY!
Have a great green day tomorrow everyone!

Oh, Adrienne, I am sorry you are having such a rough time! I had detox like that in my first week of raw, but not since then. Just some milder stuff on and off. So far this time, it is just a mild weakness and a need to run to the bathroom a lot, and feeling cold. Nothing too bad.
I am on day three of green smoothies. My two smoothies so far today are not the greatest :p so I need to plan to make a really good one tonight.....I am thinking frozen bananas and coco nibs. :D
I am batch cooking for my family and yesterday made a huge batch of one of my favorite sad meals. (I was going to say what meal but decided that would be counter-productive!). It was very difficult, the most difficult time I have had since going raw. I confess I stuck my finger in the gravy. BUT then I realized I was STARVING, so I made myself a dessert smoothie of an apple, a pear, some dates, and some almond milk, and it really filled me up and was so delicious.

Adrienne - you don't HAVE to put citrus in them. These are YOUR creations. To make them however you think they will taste good. If all you like is spinach and banana and water - that's fine - at least I think so...
Too many times on too many diets I ate stuff that I did not like - because it was "supposed" to be good for me. Pft!
Now I refuse to eat or drink anything I don't like...
AdrienneD

thank you lucy, I do appreciate that, but the fact is..I LOVE citrus, i am just horribly allergic to them! I am soo hoping after a year or two of raw I can have them again, we shall see. For now I shall simply covet everyone's delicious citrusy recipes!
Detox is slightly better right now, headache wise I'm great, aches and tightness going away too. But why am I so darn warm! I was able to stand in the freezer at work and barely feel it. Oh well! My mouth isn't barely as sore either.
I plan on making a gigantic spinach smoothie tonight. All I've had today so far is a LOT of water, blended apples, and 2 cups of carrot juice with tbsp of spirulina. My appetite has really gone down.
night everyone!

Wow! You are all doing great!
Sorry AdrienneD! More citrus posting here. I read somewhere you know you are a raw foodie if you have tons of bananas in your shopping cart, lol! I like to cut my bananas in fourths before freezing and then every so often I'll get a quarter banana out of the freezer and just eat it right out of my hand. Great in the summer but oh one's hand DOES get cold.
Yesterday was day 3 of my water fast and around 2:30 pm my body let me know it was ready for something else. So I put up the sewing for the performance at my daughter's school and headed home via the HFS. Picked up 6 pounds of organic oranges and went home. Set up the juicer and went to town. I sipped the OJ slowly and mixed it with saliva as much as I could. Starting at 3:45 I had two very large glasses and about 30 minutes later had a very cleansing BM. I had another large glass of OJ later for dinner. I kept drinking water all throughout the day and night. Yes, I even woke up during the night and went to the kitchen for water .
This morning I started with water and then a GS. 1 avo, juice of 3 oranges and packed the rest of the blender jar with spring mix. Delish! My tastebuds want to add stuff like garlic, onion, hot chilies, but my body isn't so keen on getting complicated just now.
Happy fasting to all!

Hi, everyone, day five for me. I am really feeling weird this morning. My head......doesn't exactly hurt but there is pressure inside....it feels enlarged or something, lol. I laid in bed for a long time, trying to go back to sleep and wake up feeling better, but it never happened so I just got up finally. I am sitting here sipping on Detox tea. No food yet but I am starting to feel hungry. My nasal passages are also runny (unusual for me), so I believe this is detox. I do feel better since getting up.
Yesterday my smoothies were awful and I was so strongly tempted by cooked food, I finally had a huge, non green smoothie and that did the trick. It was tasty. :D Chocolate. Yeah, baby.
I have decided to do a liver flush next week from Monday to Wednesday. So I will be fasting on apple juice those days.
AdrienneD
10-30-2009, 01:12 PM
I'm so sorry you're feeling unwell today! Here's a speedy detox! Your liver flush should certainly speed it up!
Today has been good, a day off work. I got so much done this morning. I biked to the store we went to last week to buy all my greens (only place in the city that sells greens that are at least from this province!), went to the bank, a few little errands, cleaned, and took care of all the pets.
Still hardly any appetite though. At about 12:30 I blended 2 cups of mint leaves with nearly a pound of baby spinach, then strained it all into the most relaxing green juice I have EVER had. I added my spirulina to this as well. Just now I finished off a kale and apple smoothie. God I love kale *grins at the thought of three fresh bunches waiting in the fridge*.
One bad thing though, the cashier gave me SUCH a hard time about the mint of all things! They sell it by the bunch, but I wanted A LOT of it, so I took the whole bag they had out with the bunches. 12 bunches in total. she just kept going on and on that they sell them in the BUNCH, not by the BAG. she would not listen at all when I told her I am aware of that, I just wanted the entire 12 bunches today. She kept looking over my greens then giving me this dirty look. She was very nice and chatty with the person before and after me though, who ONLY had carts of meat with them. Bugged the heck out of for the entire bike ride home! Some people  Oh well! I know which checkout to avoid next trip!
I'm off to draw and play!

My smoothies today have been OUTSTANDING.
B: strawberries, banana, and spinach.
L: avocado, tomatoes, cilantro, onion and celery, and I made it with warm water and it was soooooooooo wonderful. Will definitely be making this one again.
S: Leaving in a little bit to go to a volleyball game. Going to take another strawberry and banana one again, and I'm going to add some sprouted sunflowers for a bit of staying power, since I will be out all evening.
I am feeling better than I was this morning. Yay, detox! And I am down another pound. :D

Good News Adrienne, I have read many who go raw rediscover citrus. I was just reading a blog about a lady that after 6 months raw decided to try a raw dressing, even though it had a tablespoon of lemon juice. She tried, and all seemed good. The next day she tried a tablespoon of lemon juice in a glass of water. All went well. She did that daily for a few weeks and then upped it. She said before she reached her one year raw she was eating 2-3 pieces of oranges and grapefruits and lemons daily!
I really hope you get your wish, Calamansi (lemonsito) in water is a very important part of my day. It is how I break every long water fast and so important to my green drink fasts also.

Thanks LikeItRaw - you really made me laugh! Two days ago I, on the spur of the moment, went to the mall to get a couple things I needed. I left without breakfast and was really hungry. So I carefully selected a bunch of ripe bananas and put them in my shopping cart. The produce lady, who has seen me there a lot, commented that she didn't think I liked bananas! I asked what gave her that idea and she told me that she always saw me buying fresh fruits and veggies - but she never saw me buy any bananas! Then added, "you usually walk right by the banana display without even giving it a glance." Ah! I live next to a big field of bananas and buy them fresh from my neighbor!
I don't like cold bananas, unless they are in ice cream. But Percy puts them in the ref!
It has been so cold here lately, I hope this approaching typhoon will warm it up a little today or tomorrow. My air-con, which is set to keep a constant 28 degrees, is not even kicking on because it has been so cold most nights lately. The radio said it dropped to 25 degrees last night, a degree colder than the ocean water! You know it is really winter when the typhoons are coming in from the northeast off of the pacific. Nothing there but 1500 Km to Guam!
Oh, for the Americans, 25 degrees is the same as your 77 degrees. Very cold for us - really time to break out the blankets and jackets! Good days to make a nice green smoothie with dehydrated Kalamungay leaves... I have been told they are now available in the States as a superfood!

Oooo! Living by a banana field! SO jealous!
Breakfast ~ was a GS of avo, OJ & spring mix. Very tasty!
Lunch ~ was a GS of tomato, carrots, lemon juice, a little olive oil and spring mix. Needed something else but it was ok. Basil would have been good and would have made the whole thing taste great.
Dinner ~ was a GS of mango, OJ & spring mix. This was very tasty too. Finished off the spring mix.
Dessert ~ may be a GS of banana, apple and kale, or I may save that for tomorrow's breakfast. We'll see how I'm feeling later.
Been drinking lots of water as well.
Really loving the clean feeling I have. I am in awe of how my skin is feeling! I haven't weighed but I know I've let go of a little poundage 'cause my clothes are seriously loose now. Gonna have to wash and dry on high as payday is another week away. Or possibly raid my daughter's closet for a belt, heh heh! Payback time! She's been stealing my shoes and sweatshirts for a couple years now.

Bananas and coconuts.....unlimited......sounds like paradise to me! Or at least the South Pacific!
Well I DEFINITELY have a head cold, NOT detox. My nose is running like a faucet and I keep sneezing. Several in my family have it. I do not get colds often, even eating SAD, so i am a big baby about it.
I worked today and carted my smoothies to work.
B: spinach and bananas and sunflower sprouts
L: avocado, tomato, pepper, celery, cilantro, and sunflower sprouts.
S: I think I will treat myself to another dessert smoothie tonight, prolly almond milk and banana and cacao again. That was so tasty the other day.
Sooooooo glad I get another hour of sleep tonight. 0530 comes awfuly early. Last year I forgot to set my clock back and reported for work at 0430!

I guess you could move here... We actually eat about seven different kinds of bananas! Some are much more delicious than what you are thinking about, but they do not ship well!
However...

Hi, I would like to join in on a green smoothie fast! Halloween is gone but the candy is not ! If I don't do something now I will eat it , even though I do not want to. So tomorrow, Nov 1st I'm going to start a fast. I'm not sure how long I will do this but diffinantly want to try for 2 weeks.
I plan to fast on water ,fresh juice and blended raw veggies. If things get tough-meaning if I get depress- I will have fresh soup/mush as I did last year when I followed the 21-day detox diet. This time I plan to put my own spin on things.

hello everyone
I've been forgetting to post!
All has been well and the smoothie have been DELICIOUS! Mint and spirulina were meant for eachother :D . I can't stand any fruit right now though in my smoothie. They've been all greens with the occasional avo or carrot juice. Apples are getting too sweet for me!
I am going to have a post a progress picture soon, you would not believe how great my skin looks! In a few more weeks I shall if this keeps up! I am currently the only one awake, everyone else stayed up last night so they'll be out for awhile. I'm content though to sit in bed typing quietly beside hubby. I don't have to work for three hours still, I love sunday mornings!
My smoothie plan for the day is kale/spirulina/mint/parsley for breakfast, rapini/parsley/figs/carrot juice for lunch, and then just any old delicious greens I feel like for dinner!
Has anyone noticed an improvement in sleep so far? I am sleeping so soundly and deeply!
have a great green day!

Oh, my yes, I would have a hard time if I could not have my avocados. Even in Montana they are available year around, though not cheap (usually a dollar apiece but they do go on sale regularly).
I have a HORRIBLE cold today. I had to work and I was sneezing and sniffling like crazy, not what people want to see in a nurse . Very soon I am going to take a hot bath and go to bed. Right now I am sipping on some hot vitamin C drink. Not exactly raw but o so soothing.
B: Kale and bananas and cinnamon smoothie
L: avocado, tomatoes, green pepper, onion, celery and cilantro smoothie.
S: Don't even know if it will happen.
I was feeling almost "guilty" today, like I was being a bad example of raw by getting a cold, but then I read Jinjee's daily raw inspiration, about how they all have colds right now, and they get colds every year in spite of being raw, and she wondered aloud if colds are somehow cleansing. Judging by the amount of watery mucus coming out of my nose today, I would say my nasal passages are pretty cleaned out!

Today is going well. Yesterday , My fiancee made a cake, today I cut a huge slice and took it over to my sisters house and I did not even lick the icing off my finger. Willpower like that usually does not happen for me often.
B- blended broccoli, berries and grounded Flaxseed smoothie
L- Vitiamin enriched protein powder, wheat grass and chorella w/water
S- green tea, bottled orange juice
D- Not sure--surprisingly I am not hungry I must be still living off yesterdays Halloween candy.

Morning everyone!!! *jumping up and down*
It seems like everyone is doing well with their GS's! Hooray!
I have too much energy! I've been bouncing around the apartment since 8 am. Laundry's done and put away, dishes are done and put away, I set up a turtle tank, cleaned out the other reptile cages, gave them all cuddles, made some fish for the kitty, and have been dancing around listening to the radio since. I feel GREAT!
Today is day 12 for me and I don't feel like stopping anytime soon! I weighed myself for fun this morning, and I am actually UP 5 pounds. But you know what? I actually laughed at my scale. I have gone from a size 9 jean to a size 6, so guess who's laughing even more now!??! My thighs are finally losing some squish (FINALLY), and My hips bones are soo nice and noticeable now, I LOVE it!
I'm also throwing myself into strength training again, I need to more muscle to cover up the bones that are starting to show on my upper body, and just to feel good and strong haha.
My skin feels great and I just want to run around telling everyone I love them. I feel almost high! My husband is loving it too *tehe*
Just think, this is only 12 days on GS's..imagine what a few months will be like!?!?
OH! And I've come back into sprouting! I've had a huge bag of green lentils in my pantry for months, and I finally started them up over the weekend. I only used 1 cup and they have turned into almost 4 cups! Their little tails are a bout 1/2" to 1" now. I nibbled on them a bit just to check, and they are so SWEET! I'm in love! I also downed a glass of purely water and spirulina. WOW..hard to down it all but I think that may be contributing to my current euphoria.
I attached a few pictures, my turtle tank (40g) and the lentils. I spent so long washing that darn sand and STILL it goes cloudy! My poor little turt will have to wait 'till tomorrow morning to see his new home *grumbles*...plus I need to be able to actually SEE where I'm putting the plants :/ .
I'm off to get ready for work! Toodles everyone!

Yo, Adrienne, I am so happy for you! That must be amazing to have all that energy. I honestly don't know what that is like. I have been low energy all my life due to undiagnosed celiac. I am hoping a few weeks on green smoothies and/or a few more months on all raw will get me to that raw high others have experienced. I am MORE energetic than I was, but still lower than normal.
I am listening to my tummy grumble like crazy. It is really weird to me: last night, AFTER my salt water flush had finally quit making me run to the bathroom, and HOURS after I had had my last drink of apple juice, I got very gassy, and am still so today. I guess this is stirring up some bugs? And they are in their death throes maybe? Dunno. I started the antiparisite drops last night so that will hopefully do a number on some bugs too.

AH! forgot one other great thing! I had two pieces of pineapple last night. That is HUGE for me! I haven't had any in almost five years. And this morning, NOTHING! Not a single rash, swollen area, or redness! My face usually puffs up in the horrid rash within a few hours, I didn't even get a sore throat! I'll take this slow..but I am salivating at the though of being apple to have pineapple and oranges..and maybe one day mangos!

wow i have been reading everyone's posts. All of you are amazing. How do you do lunches and snacks at work? Do you bring it frozen and let it thaw, or bring a magic bullet and all the raw goodies to work? Also, didn't Norman Walker advocate smoothies and juices as a way of life? Sparklie I am so sorry. I hope you find the answers you are looking for.
I am on day three of the liver flush. I have had one quart of apple juice and the second one is chilling in the fridge. I need to juice my grapefruits and get them chilling for later tonigt.
I had great results from my salt water flush, and my guts are very quiet right now, in spite of all the antiparasite and anticandida stuff I am taking. I am thankful for that!
I have been decluttering my bedroom for the last two days. Almost done!

Your flush sounds great Katch! I hope the rest goes smoothly!
Today has been nearly a juice fast day, with a few nibbles of lentil sprouts. I just haven't been too hungry. I am going through a HUGE emotional detox right now, I still have the physical energy, but I am so darn emotional and everything is being brought up. I had a fantastic and tearful talk with my father and step-mum this evening though during that visit, it cleared up a LOT and I am feeling slightly lighter from it.
The thing that pushed me over the edge today though is when I walked into work and saw the next week's schedule. I have EIGHT hours. EIGHT PITIFUL HOURS! How do they expect me to handle that!??! I have a half shift sunday, then not another one until next saturday! I am full time, I always have been, so what the heck is going on!?!??!
GAH. Oh well, I have a solid week free to my disposal! And I will be using that free week to apply EVERYWHERE. I am not going to put up with these fluctuation hours anymore! Not to mention I can get some great biking and hiking in before the cold weather really sets in.
Alas, it will get better! I am having dinner smoothie of half a head of kale, 1 bunch of curly parsley, 2/3 green pepper, 1/2 small onion, and a baby spring mix. So good!
My sprouts are growing, my pets are happy, and I sense new beginnings on the horizon!
Toodles!

Kherd2, I bring bottles of smoothies to my work and store them in the refrigerator there. If the bottles are cold, they will not get too warm just by traveling in my car for 20 minutes. If I need to go around town, I put one or two bottles in a small cooler together with one or two blue-ice packs. Are you planning to join this fast?
Adrienne, Sorry about your work schedule. But you came up with some bright ideas to make yourself happy!
How could you enjoy all-vegi smoothies? I envy you. I just couldn’t bring myself around to try savory smoothies. I have to use a lot of bananas and just a little greens.
Katchmoleen, Glad you have been doing well.
My smoothie day is going fine except for one minor slip: I was tempted by the corn chip sample table at a health food store. Otherwise I am content with my smoothie fast. Today I have used bananas, cranberries, tomatoes, , avocados, kiwis, grapefruit, lemon, seaweeds, hot pepper, coconut oil, and greens from my garden.
Greens from my garden have a much stronger/bitterer taste than the grocery-bought ones. I wonder if this is because my garden soil has been regularly enriched by leaves and kitchen left-overs such as vegi peels and so is mineral-rich. Does anyone know?

joyce09- I enjoy them because it's all I could afford for awhile, and then they grew on me. My fruit appetite has finally come back though, with perfect timing too!
Because of the work issue I did some budgeting this morning and figured out that I have the most 50$ a week for food, for both hubby and myself. The pets get their own budget entirely haha. I found that BOTH of the farmer's markets near me are open year round, so I can count on my apples until December as well! I rode to a few different grocery stores today. It was perfect timing! The first one I went to had 15lbs of bananas in the reduced section!!!!! 3 bags for .99 cents each! I was in complete shock..then I grabbed them all and shoved them in my basket lol. I got another 5lbs from the regular section as well. They even had a huge bag of button mushrooms for 1.99 and a bag of mixed mushrooms for .99 cents.I got some great deals on my greens there too. At the next grocery store I almost left with just my avo's and persimmins, then the produce guy brought out the apples that were on sale! The cashier laughed at me when I ran back through the line for them haha All together 25lbs of apples for 8 dollars! Frozen blueberries were on sale too! *squeel*
I am ECSTATIC right now over my bounty. All together it cost just a few cents over 35$. So now I have 15 dollars left to buy hubbie's cooked stuff, which I can use my discount on at my workplace to save even more! ha!
I am feeling much better today emotionally as well. I keep having these horrid dreams where there are two of me..and one of them i yelling at the other as they eat animal products. I wake up in such a funny mood. Three nights in a row now!
oh well!
Have great day everyone!

I am sipping my kale/banana green smoothie and it tastes like ambrosia.:)
I barely gagged down the last saltwater flush this am, and did pass some stones. Yay for me!
It was interesting lying there and feeling my gall bladder working last night after I chugged the grapefruit and olive oil mix. I didn't have sharp pains but I had a dull ache all over my gall bladder area and into my back and up to my right shoulder. I also woke up a couple of times in the night and had to run to the bathroom, but no stones that I could see. The stones I passed this morning were extremely soft and mucousy, so I guess the apple juice and malic acid did their job.
I am waiting to see if I pass some more stones before I take any pictures. I am sure you all are hanging on your seats. :D There were only two stones of any size, the rest was like chaff.
I used no epsom salts, so no saying it was a chemical combination of epsom salts and olive oil! The stones are bright neon green.

way to go! Your body must feel so much better!
Today is a bit of a blah day. I skipped my GS this morning..then went CRAZY on the bananas. I feel more than a little stuffed right now. I know why though, it was a bit of an emotional thing. I am SO nervous right now. I am finally taking a step forward in changing my job. There is a job fair and on-the-spot interviews today. In 20 minutes...I AM SO NERVOUS! I don't why though haha I have loads of experience that they're looking for, not to mention it's a completely new store opening up in the beginning of december, so they will be hiring many many people. *calming breaths*.
Other than that, I feel as though I am retaining water and bowel movements. Something just doesn't want to come out and it's making me feel so heavy and gross. I'm going to go for a long walk after the job fair and hopefully get things moving!
Have a good day everyone,

Hello, everyone, the end of day 12 for me. At this point it just feels like I could go on and on!
I helped out a friend today with painting, for 6 hours, then came home and cooked a big dinner for dh and fam for our 22nd anniversary. I stuck with smoothies.....well sorta!
B: banana and spinach with sunflower seeds
No lunch
Snack: coconut water
s: avocado, tomato, zucchini, celery, spinach, garlic
My daughters made some raw ice cream for dessert...raspberry with chocolate sauce. I decided it fit the description of a smoothie.:cool:Had about 1 cup....deeeeeeelish!

Joyce09 thanks for the advice there was a vitamix demo all week at Costco and the guy made smoothies for me everyday. Wow was I spoiled. He made it out of cabage, carrots, bananas, and garlic and fruit concentrate. I know the concentrate isn't raw but everything else was and it tasted great. I could feel mucus draining out of my sinuses and afterwards I had so much energy. I will miss the vitamix demos, they leave Sunday. I wish I had an extra 400.00 but I don't. However, I do have a magic bullet. Don't laugh. It works pretty good for most things. Good luck to everyone....

Both my smoothies were rather blech today, so right now I am wishing for something that TASTES GOOD. I will have to see what I can find.
B: banana, spinach, young coconut meat, and water kefir. The kefir was the bad part. It really didn't ferment much so was way too sweet.
L: avocado, tomato, zucchini, garlic, celery, basil. I used too much basil, and the avocado wasn't ripe. So it wasn't as tasty as usual.
The wind is BITTERLY cold here today, so I may try to warm up some soup in the crockpot.
Day 13 of green smoothie fast is almost done.
kherd to answer your questions, gall stones are very common in the SAD population, and even if you do not have stones, your liver can be congested just from having to handle a heavy detox load. So a liver/gall bladder flush is a good idea for anybody. You may or may not get out stones, but your liver will still thank you.
I actually feel pretty good. I had a very busy day yesterday and had the energy to do it all, which was great.

I believe juice is supposed to be better because the fiber can be very irritating to an inflamed colon.

From what I skimmed, cabbage, carrot, and papaya juices are especially helpful. Do you have a juicer? If not, you can blend your stuff and then strain it through a nutmilk bag (or paint strainer bag...I just bought one for $1.15 and they work well and are easy to clean).

Thank you, Katchmoleen, you are a life saver. I've saved these articles. They are just the information and motivation I needed. At this stage of my healing I need specifics like this. How much, what kind of fruits and veggies and why no fiber etc. These articles really explain it all. My colon needs a rest.
I'm so grateful for your helpful guidance. Thanks again.

veganforlife- The interview went horribly in my opinion..but not in theirs! I just got a call to come back for a second interview this afternoon! I really hope all goes well *fingers crossed*
The last few days have been only fruit smoothies along with my banana attack, and starting tonight will be a 5 day waterfast. Since I don't have to work I can concentrate more on healing rather then not passing out from the combination of physical work of detox.

I'm glad I could help, Sparklie!
I am detoxing today. Headache yesterday and today and feeling incredibly grumpy. I woke up with that hungover feeling this morning (at 4:50 am) and am struggling at work. It is very busy, and all I want to do is sleep!
I gained 5 pounds a few days into this GS fast and it is still there! Weird. I know it is not fat, but my body is obviously up to something. I will push the fluids tomorrow and see if that helps.
Breakfast was a banana, avocado, date, spinach smoothie.
Lunch: corn soup....I made it last night and warmed it up in the crockpot. It was HEAVEN. So I am doing that again for lunch. Not exactly a GREEN smoothie but oh so good, especially with a headache.
S: Planning an avocado tomato type smoothie. We are going to a potluck dinner with tacos  so I need to have a good tasting one!
I know I will continue this through Wednesday, when I plan another liver flush. After that, I will probably start to break it. My two daughters are feeling very neglected in the food area, as I have left them on their own as far as fixing raw food. I don't want them to fall off the wagon, so I think it is getting close to time to end this. I am so glad I did it though.....never thought I could last this long! I can't say I am seeing any major benefits yet, but I am sure they are there, just hiding.

Well, my green smoothie fast ended today. I went 14 days, which was my original goal, so I am feeling good about that. I was going to go till Wednesday, but my colon has sorta shut down  and I think I need to get some solid food in me. My daughters are more than ready for me to join them in eating. Neither of them really love to prepare food, so they need me to egg them on a bit.

I have been led to a green smoothie fast... +the support on this thread looks great. From this fast, I am hoping to concentrate and get to know myself better, and detox physically and emotionally.
I want to go until Thanksgiving (17 days) because my mom wants me to add two raw dishes to our dinner. (Great news bc she is a SAD eater). Though, I do feel like I'll want to continue on with the fast afterwards. I feel like I am in the right place for this, at the right time. I want to focus on the larger things in life like my goals, where I want to be, school, my spiritual life, and contribution to this world. The timing is perfect, too.. My dad just came home last night with like 5 gloves of bananas and like 30 apples/pears..!:D!
I have a few questions... Before the start of a green smoothie fast is it optimal for one to water fast for a day?? I have noticed a few people doing this. Also, I usually run about 2-3 miles every morning. Can I continue this?? This is my first GS fast. :) Oh I am excited!
Thank you...I hope to gain so much awareness and a true raw high from this.

Just a hint, break the fast a few days BEFORE TG because you have to do it gently and build back up to food. I broke my fast yesterday and besides a green smoothie I ate some cracker, an orange, and about 5 mushrooms, and I felt stuffed! You don't want to be miserable on TG day.
You can continue your usual exercise as long as you get enough GS to sustain your calorie needs.
About water fasting....I have no idea if its optimal but I like to do it. It is always good for the body.
Good luck to you and keep posting and letting us know how it goes!

Thanks for the hint, katchmoleen! I will definitely build back up to food slowly and steadily...
I did my usual morning exercise, and throughout the day just drank Gs's based on hunger. It worked out quite well!
Yes, water fasting is good for the body, but I decided to jump right in so this is day 2 :)
I will continue to post! :)

Today was wonderful!!
I got up and had my morning run and some strength training. (yesss i just love a good workout:)).. I got home and had my usual Breakfast:
Kale, 2 bananas, TBS cacao, bee pollen, cayenne, & water.
Mid morning I had a greens from the garden, banana, pear gs
For lunch, I created an awesome new smoothie!:spinach, apple, celery, and blackberries! Yummmy. The apple and celery popped so well.
Before going to the school to get some work done, I had a spinach & 1 banana gs. I had just purchased some tahini for my mom and decided to put a big spoonful in there because I was feeling the need for fat. Afterward, I felt really weird/semi gross so I called arrowhead farms customer service to see if it was raw, and found out that it is heated between 194-200 degrees... & boy did my body feel it! From now on, it is just fruits and veggies for me.
Later, I blended a tomato, 1/2 zucchini, celery stalk, & garlic. Overall, a successful day. Tomorrow shall be wonderful. I will buy some avocados for that fat source. What do you use for your fat source?
katchmoleen
11-11-2009, 11:28 PM
I always included at least one, sometimes two, avocados per day for my fat source. I felt I really needed it. On the days I worked and couldn't fix green smoothies to my hunger, I added about 1/4 cups sunflower seeds to my morning smoothie, just to give it some staying power, as the banana and spinach GS, while delicious, usually left me hungry an hour or so later.

When I did my GS feast... I alway used hemp or flax oil in mine. I personally don't like the taste or texture of avocados in my GS... although I do love the seeds in them. Weird eh? LOL
RawKate
11-14-2009, 11:19 AM
katchmoleen, that is a good idea about the sunflower seeds. Yesterday (Day 4) I tried a few different fat sources to see what each was like...
B: I had my normal 2 bananas, kale, cacao, cayenne
L: I used 2 pears, handful of blackberries, organic garden greens, and a TBS flax oil. I liked the texture/taste the oil gave the smoothie.
Later, I had a kale, tomato, 1/2 cucumber, garlic, 1/4 apple, and for kicks, decided to throw in a handful of soaked almonds. I did like how there were little tiny pieces to chew on of the almonds... this seemed to have some nice staying power. Aleesha, do you find oil has the same "staying" power?
For dinner, I had a kale, frozen banana, 3/4 apple, celery green smoothie, then a cup of warm nettle tea with lemon. :)
I suppose one could put any type of nut in their GS for the fat source. I think I liked the oil best.
Day 3, I had mixed up a half an avocado in my banana, apple GS. While I like the texture it gives the smoothie, I think it would go better with a veg smoothie instead of fruit. That's just my taste...
I think next time I should go for some coconut oil....yum. I cannot say that I've ever tasted hemp oil! I want to give it a go! It's interesting, Aleesha, you say you don't like avocados in your GS but like the seed? Do you blend the pit? As I have read the pit has a great amount of fiber in it. I'd love to experiment with that, too!
RawKate

B: started off with a 2 banana, kale, cacao, cayenne GS
L: kale, 2 banana, 1 orange, 1/2 pear, blackberry, TBS flax oil GS
D: collard, 1 banana, 1/2 apple, 1/2 pear, 1/4 cuc GS
After Workout: 1 cuc, 1 roma, aloe, TBS flax oil smoothie
I'm not sure if it's because I didn't run for two days, but today at the gym, I KILLED 3 MILES like it was nothing! When I was running I was like, "come on, sweat!" because it felt so at ease. I feel this is definitely due to some mega nutrients!!

Today, I had...
B: the regular: spinach, 2 banana, cacao, cayenne
L: 1 head romaine, 1 banana, 1 apple, 1 stalk celery, 1/2 cuc, TBS flax oil
D: spinach, 2 banana, some sprinkled ground flax seed (The ground flax was super. Gave it a nice flavor.)
6pm snack: I was craving walnuts, so I mixed a handful of them with a pear and some spinach. This was quite tasty, but QUITE filling.
