 A friend of mine just returned from Thailand where she was told that you can die from eating too much durian in one sitting !?! I've never heard that before. Is it true?

She also said that there were signs everywhere with a picture of a durian and a red circle around it with a line through it ("no durians allowed") because of the smell. Some places you couldn't even go in if you'd eaten one recently!

If that's true I'd sure like to know. I've been stocking up on durian and eating half of one every morning.

From what she said it had to be a lot in one sitting, which I have heard of people doing, and I've never heard this before, but she met someone there who swore his friend died from it. Weird. I'll let you know if I hear anything about it.

Yes, I've read this - that eating too many, too fast, causes some kind of stroke. But my understanding you'd have to eat a lot. I don't know how anyone could - I find it so rich that I can barely eat one pod!.
That's funny about the "no durians allowed".

A swedish newspaper had an notice a few months back about someone who actually had died from eating too many durians.

When searching the internet I found the same article in english:

The ministry advised eating no more than two segments of durian a day, warning that the fruit's calorie content posed a threat to people with high blood pressure, heart conditions and diabetes.
