So... steam coming out of it probably means it got too hot :D I'm shooting for something around 110-115 max.

What I'm wondering about is could a person tape a thermometer on the outside and use it as a gauge? I know it wouldn't be accurate, but a person could calculate things and figure out that like 80 = 105, or 90 = 110.. whatever it might be. What I'll do is first measure the inside bottom temp and see what that is and judge things from there.

I was almost thinking of getting one of the fish tank type and will need to look at more stores because some didn't have em.

I use an INSTANT READ meat thermometer. Cost around $9.00. I stop blending and dip the thermometer in for a reading. It really does work instantly.

yep - i got one of those and it helps. i'm sure i'll get the hang of timing for my fav recipes, and with new ones.. it will be an interesting challenge of stopping the blender every so often and checking it. That's why I was considering something for the outside that might divulge a temp reading during runtime so it's only required to stop the blender once.

My grandson has a handheld infrared thermometer gun that he can point at anything and the digital temp reads instantly. It wasn't expensive-I saw some on ebay for around $20. He is forever pointing it at things and reading the temperature. It has an infrared light like those pointers that lecturers use during a presentation.
Of course if you aim it at the outside of the blender container it isn't going to give the temperature of the liquid inside. But like you say, you can do some testing to see what the difference is and calculate it. Or you can stop it after so many seconds, take the lid off and point it inside.
I think I'm going to get one too! One thing about them-they would sure come in handy in a lot of situations-not just this one!
