Well, actually I can. This is what our sick SAD society has come to. I was making a Walmart run and what do I see in one of the aisles, but a big ol box of individually packed Jet Puffed mini marshmallows, 'perfect' for school lunch boxes.

Just when I thought we've reached a level that can't be surpassed anymore. Thanks, Kraft.

Why don't they just package lunchbox sized bags of sugar and get it over with?

It's just a shame. I see this all the time at stores, when eating with friends (and their children). I hate childrens menues at restaurants. I refuse to order from them.

What a good idea Autumn. Wouldn't it be great to write that to them.

Marshmallows are essentially sugar, flavoring and cow bones (gelatin).
We used to break them up with our fingers and make a marshmallow cream out of it. Did anyone else do that?

Yes, cactus, Jet Puffed is the brand name. Funny how I recognized their logo and I wasn't even close!

We used to make that 'cream' too!! Somehow it was soooo cool to be able to take a marshmallow and make some other treat (we called it 'taffy') out of it. Reminds me of how we used to ask my parents if we could have milkshakes with dinner. When they said no, we'd take the gallon of milk out of the fridge and roll it (and kick it - just a little!) around the kitchen floor so that it was all bubbly. It was close enough for us!! I think kids just want to have fun with their food, just like most things. I don't think they care what the heck it is!! It's the parents that care/don't care, as the case may be!

marshmallows, cowbones? gag! All those smores while camping. If I had only known, I would have had nightmares about the marshmallows instead of the ghost stories!

It's not just the bones, it's also skin, hoofs and connective tissue of animals... http://tinypic.com/b6zu3l.gif

Oh sure. "But poor little Billy *needs* a pick-me-up in the afternoon after learning his times tables and how to conjugate French verbs!"

Exactly. Can you imagine how much food would not ever be bought if the ingredients listed were in plain English (or your own native language) ?

yikes Autumn. I dont think I would ever be able to go in a grocery store again if what was really in food was listed on the packages. I have a weird thing about food and being easily disgusted to the point of nausea. lol

It will be funny the next time I see a marshmallow somewhere and start gagging. haha
