Okay let's have an RFT virtual party. I think we could use some fun on the forum in this moment.
It's an RPP (raw potluck party) so everyone has to bring something.
I'm fasting, so I'm going to bring a gorgeous juice for everyone. I'll do a few different ones so you can come and grab whichever you want.
Cantaloupe, mint with crushed ice in a tall glass
Pineapple, spirulina with a lime wedge on the side of the glass
Green apple, parsley with or without ginger with a tiny (fair trade) umbrella. Chunks of apple are on the umbrella stick.
So... anyone wanna party with me? http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/thsmiley_abzv.gif

Aleesha, you are a strong woman to talk potluck while juice fasting. Tipping a glass to you. CHEERS! Your juices sound delish!
I would love to share my squash waffles! They don't look like much now. I need to get them dressed in some party clothes. How about raspberry sauce and cashew creme? Or maybe someone else could bring the maple syrup.
:)

Hey Aleesha, I can bring a bunch of fresh buko juice (young coconut water), direct from the Philippines if I can find Pillow (fellow) to climb the trees for me. I just can't get up there.
How about our "pumpkin pie filling" custard... We take kalabasa (orange squash) - we use the one with they yellow skin, the green skinned one doesn't work so well in this - we grate it because we have a weak blender.
Add fresh grated and squeezed coconut milk and some pumpkin pie spices like cloves and ginger, etc.
Add something sweet if you want. Raisins or maybe dates - but we can't get them here. Before we added a little honey but that is too sweet for us now.
Blend it till it is all one color. Put it in a bowl or pie plate in the freezer until it sets up. It comes out like a pudding like custard and tastes a lot like pumpkin pie.
Of course, I haven't eaten pumpkin pie in two decades and my Honeybun never has! :D

Hey katchmoleen!
I hope you are enjoying the party...
I noticed your HgA1c - that is really good! Mine dropped from 12 something down to just about 5 when my doc told me to forget it! Nice huh?
I started a gluten free social group to help each other for those with Celiac or DH. I've seen two or three here that I wonder if they have it from their classic symptoms.
The board is called A Silly Act For Celiac (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/group.php?groupid=17) if you would like to check it out... :D

Pool boy Aleesha? Take a close look at that other photo of the back yard. See on the left edge that some of the coco trees are stuck in some white stuff - that is beach sand!
Would a nice suntanned lifeguard be ok? http://vegenesist.com/vegenesist.com/img/sinulog5_small.jpg Here is "Pillow" (fellow) he sometimes fan the faint!
Sorry Invisible, since the temperature is just so nice today (not too hot and sunny, but toasty warm) I just thought I would jump in for a swim.
Hey Invisible, how about we take the bunka (boat) out and do some "fishin'"? http://vegenesist.com/vegenesist.com/img/banca.jpg
The Lato is really good "fishin'" this time of year. http://vegenesist.com/vegenesist.com/img/lato1.jpg That is green caviar or sea grapes for you that don't know (ugh, you might call it seaweed - but it is not a weed, it's a big cash crop here in Cebu). It s high in B-12! Too bad lato needs to be eaten fresh and doesn't ship well. It could solve any B-12 problem with Live food!
Some of our crew at home hail from the small seaside town of Toledo, Cebu. Others call home the other side of Cebu island in Talisay where I live. Suffice it to say they enjoy sea vegetables, whether fresh and wiggly crisp, dried or in salad form. Here are two ways they enjoy fresh seaweed.
First up, kinilaw na guso a la Toledo (seaweed ceviche). http://vegenesist.com/vegenesist.com/img/kinilaw-na-guso.jpg Guso is a gelatinous, substantial seaweed, and some cookies (cooks) like to blanch it for a few seconds before adding a vinegar dressing with large chunks of ginger, chopped tomatoes, red onions, salt and ideally, coconut or tuba (coconut sap) vinegar. The reddish flavorful tuba vinegar is the key difference between a good kinilaw and a GREAT kinilaw na guso. Notice the more green color of the seaweed? It turns an olivey color if blanched, mine is uncooked seaweed. My Honeybun and I are actually eating this as I type! Everyone say hello to my wife, Percy, who actually (really) made the kinilaw na guso for lunch! Don't you wish you were really here eating it with us!
Frankly, kinilaw (kini = this, hilaw = raw, so kinilaw = "this raw" or "not cooked!") seems to be a misnomer if the seaweed is blanched, but who am I to argue with all those eating SAD (Standard Asian Diet)?
Best served and eaten with your hands. The salad has a real textural and mouth feel that is unlike most salads you have ever eaten. To many, this is comfort food from the sea!
VeGenesis
10-22-2009, 12:20 AM
A simpler salad or seaweed side dish of sorts is super fresh http://vegenesist.com/vegenesist.com/img/lato2.jpg Lato served au naturel with a good coconut vinegar and salt (we only have sun dried sea salt, so no one makes a distinction), the way they do it on the islands of Cebu (where we live) and also Palawan.
Lato are bright green in color and have almost grape like formations attached to a thick stem… and when you bite into the lato they pop in your mouth and release a salty liquid truly reminiscent of the ocean. They seem particularly good if they are rinsed in salty water and popped into the fridge for half an hour so that they are cold when served.
You can also apply the dressing used for the kinilaw na guso above to the lato but purists like to savor the lato with just a quick dip in good vinegar (and possibly some salt). I would have to agree with the purists as pouring the vinaigrette directly on the lato results in a gooey mess and a lack of pop when you bite into the seaweed.
Percy is not (yet) 100% raw, so if you want you can enjoy some of her olive-cauliflower-mutton. http://vegenesist.com/vegenesist.com/img/olive-cauliflower-sheep.jpg
http://vegenesist.com/vegenesist.com/img/blackrmellon-pig.jpg Or maybe her black-melon sweetened pork!
But we better hurry, we do not want to be late for the Sinulog (street dancing!). I hope you get to see
The Sinulog Festival of the Dancing Sun Girls!

Do you want Pillow to climb and get one for you? I find that buko tastes best at tree top temps! Very cool!
Actually those critters were old news from the transition days...
Maybe some people are not where we are Aleesha, and may need a little help in the transition.
I invited some meat eaters to come to our party too. Just to see what Living on Live Food was all about - but they said they wouldn't come if there wasn't something resembling meat! We told them there would be mutton and pork for sure! Need I say more?
In fact, we actually make these little critters with our kids as decorations (as well as watermelon hearts) to demonstrate that animals are NOT food. Like at our intro to the VeGenesis Lifestyle (raw vegan) parties. These are centerpieces that teach. Usually they are later fed to a non human critter who doesn't think if them as looking like anything but what they are!
We have been told a number of times that these "veggimals" haunted people and convinced them to stop eating meat!

I just tried a new recipe that I am DEFINITELY bringing to the party. Alissa's Calzone dough to make a Raw Hot Pocket, and the filling was broccoli and cauliflower with just a little bit of peppers, cherry tomatoes, and mushrooms, lightly marinated in olive oil, salt, and garlic seasoning, and stuffed into the calzone dough along with a layer of Da Bomb Cheeze Sauce. OH MY it was so good! I'll make enough for everyone, so may be late. I want Pillow to be waiting for me with a hammock and that fan.

Whoa that is one boatload of coconuts....wait I will go get a big straw!
It is more than one boat! The dried copra (coconut) ship comes in every week!
The best low temp coconut oil comes from there also. A man I know created a process that uses no heat and the oil never goes above ambient air temps! It is even better than most virgin coconut oil because it is hand extracted (most use a motor and machine that can heat the oil to between 150-200 but is still considered cold processed!). This man started with the concept of making the healthiest editable oil in the world! If anyone wants to import this in bulk, I can connect you to the right guy!
He is also making coconut diesel fuel from the byproduct of making coconut oil - his jeep runs on it! Most virgin coconut oil producers do not have these byproducts because of the power equipment used to extract the oil and the heat it produces.
Oh and my lil grass skirt....ummmm hmmmm `embarrassed~.....um can someone please get me two coconut halves for the top part. I only have the grass skirt part...eeeeeeek.
Did I miss something? Did the dancing music start yet?
You need the coconut shell, not the husk. There are plenty here... The meat eaters use them for charcoal to cook their meat, but we just use them to boil water for delivering babies!
You really don't need these, but if you are embarrassed, we will get you a couple and some nipa straw to tie them on with.
You are right on time - the party is just getting into full gear!

Are you sure you wouldn't rather have a couple of the big smooth sea shells? These are abandoned by the critters who grew them and smoothed on the currents of the ocean.
I am told they are much more comfortable than the coconut shells you asked for. A lot less itchy.

Now Lan, how would you know that, hmmmmmm???? You must have some wild parties there on that island!
If anyone is interested, you want a coconut that is smaller than the mound or it will really chaff the tip. Use a sundung - a large bolo type knife - to poke holes for the straps. Nipa "grass" works better than bamboo skin, it is softer. A volcano rock, round and slightly bigger than the coconut, can be used to bevel and round the cut end of the coconut shell. Some virgin coconut oil or coconut butter helps there too.
Another method involves burying the coconut shells in sea sand so the sand crabs can work on them.
Still another is to tie the shells into the sea water to smooth... which emulates the actions on the sea shells, but of course with the coconut shells being softer it doesn't take as long or get as good a quality!
I hope that answers your question...
Finally Katch, you really don't need a wild party to do this... I actually learned most of that from a Hawaiian village girl.

I've got white button mushrooms stuffed with raw deviled egg spread (with jsut a dash of paprika on top), and I've got baby bellas that have been marinated in tamari (I prefer it to Bragg's, hope y'all don't mind - it's low sodium!) which are stuffed with sundried tomato/sunflower seed pate with just a touch of basil. And because it seems like 2 types is not enough, I'll try my hand at Alissa' pesto stuffed mushrooms. I have been wanting to make these, but it requires so much basil and those little packs you get at the grocery only give you so much - but I finally got myself some basil plants! :D
And for dessert, those frozen date snickers that everyone has been talking about! That should help to cool everyone off a bit! Just have a fresh coconut waiting for me, please!
