I did not know how to formulate very well what I want to ask in one line, but here it goes...
This is a question to everyone who may read this.
I am curious, do you decide what to eat on a day by balancing out certain minerals and nutritients (as in, this many grams of protein, this many fats, etc.) or do you go by what your body tells you/what you crave?
I tend to go by what I feel like eating, as I think it is important to listen to and trust your body.
What I do, do though, is keeping in mind what combinations are good. For example, if I eat something high in sugars, I will eat some protein with it, usually in the form of some nuts, so my insuline levels won't peak.

I don't do any of that. I eat raw food. That's it! I don't even KNOW if something is high in sugar or what protein is, etc. I didn't do that when eating before.... not going to start now. I just want real food that tastes good and is good for me.

I tend to only go by what my body is telling me or what it is craving. I don't go by minerals and nutrient combinations. It seems to be working out okay. I'm sort of interested in going to the doctor next week and seeing the results of my tests. I have a feeling they will be a bit different than they were last week.

The only concession that I make to planning is an effort to have some flax seeds every day in order to get my Essential Fatty Acids.
Also not to have nuts every day.

Thank you for the replies so far! I appreciate it.
Sport, could you tell me why you prefer not to have nuts every day?

I was interested to know how much planning was necessary and if we should think through our meals. I now just eat whatever appeals to me and cut back on the nuts. I feel great and dont worry about it too much. I just eat what I want, I have chia and hemp seeds every morning(not so much the tapioca) and that fills me till the afternoon after my workout. The rest of the day is whatever falls out of the fridge into my smoothie:)

i eat whats in season as it tastes best / is most nutricious
for example after about january here in michigan the fall apple crops
beyond prime so i dont eat apples til the next fall
and i also make sure over the course of a year im at one point or another really loading up on vitamins A/C/E/B's/CALCIUM / IRON / PROTEIN if im not already heavily on a source of them . like protein im always heavy using as i eat many nuts / seeds so never have to periodically load up . but sometimes i slack on C for a few months so load up on citrus in my diet heavily for a month

In truth I would prefer to eat them every day because I like them but I think that they are acid forming and more difficult to digest and the seeds are better for me.
Every time I eat nuts is one less time I eat seeds.
Today was a nut free day. I had flax seeds and sunflower seeds. Tomorrow I will have nuts.

Thanks for explaining, sport. The digesting thing makes sense, I have noticed this as well, I tried to be nut-free today, but I couldn't resist :P

I"m with Rev and Aleesha on this one. I eat lots of leafy greens and fresh fruit--those are the priorities--then whatever else looks like fun.
