View Full Version : What do you limit because of money? How would your diet change if money were no

object??
I gots to thinking on this.
Yesterday - started getting sick, real painful large knot in my throught.
I stopped off at the store and got 6 young coconuts, I was craving. I told myself - I could have as much as I wanted because I was sick.
For dinner last night, had about 10 oz of wheat grass juice into the coconut water....I drank all 6 and wanted more. It was so delicious - no need for food....I thought I'd have some left over for this am - but no such!
And I wondered...if money didn't matter, how would I eat differently??
I'd likely never drink water again - only coconut water!
I could likely manage about 20 oz wheat grass juice daily into the coconut water.
cups and cups of guacamole - don't know when I'd ever get enough!
Going further back in time.......<<cue flashback>>
Everything raw and healthy was ALWAYS limited! Fresh fruits, nuts in the shell, cucumber.
Pricier items were very rationed: strawberries and cherries - you got in trouble if you ate more than your fair share - which was a very small portion.
Still hungry? Fill up on bread!
How are your healthy choices impacted by economic considerations???

I would be living in Paradise, drinking heavenly smoothies and eating all kinds of exotic fruits on the beach, listening to the beautiful waves all day long!!!! :D
Seriously, dehydrating, preserving, pickling, freezing stuff is a big help to keep food around on a limited budget. For example, I see a really good deal. Ten kiwis for a dollar. I'll get those for 3 or 4 dollars worth, take the skin off and freeze it for future smoothies and such. This is how I shop. I look for bargains most of the time.
I'm in the process of learning about pickling and preserving raw foods the raw way.

I've never had a young coconut in my life. Even the "old" coconuts are out of my reach. I would buy all organic everything. I would keep an unlimited supply of organic strawberries on hand. I would have a greenhouse. I would quit work so I could stay home and grow more of my own food.

I already act like money is no object when it comes to my raw diet  , but of course it is. If money were really no object I would have bought that Gnosis bar of chocolate for $10 I saw in O'Malley & Potter today. Couldn't do it though because I spent $8.95 on a Sacred Heart Immuno Mushroom Chocolate Bar last night.
My trip to Raw Vegan Source last night added up to $148. In addition to the chocolate bar I bought Vitamineral Green, Bariani olive oil, sesame oil, Sunfood cashews, figs, coconut oil, MSM, and 2 packs of Mac'n Cheese Crackers. If money were no object I could have easily spent $500.
If I could justify spending another $50 a month on food I would double my intake of Vitamineral Green. Every day I think about how much it costs as I'm putting a heaping Tablespoonful in my green smoothie and looking into the jar to see how much is left. :p

If money were no object I would eat fresh fruit in the middle of winter. Lots and lots of fresh pineapple and blueberries. And I would have a raw chef at my disposal! And I would pay someone to help me figure out how to make a good cheese substitute that really tasted like cheese. :)

Hmm!
Well... I am really drawn to internet-shopping for raw snack goodies, especially since where I am living (The Netherlands) there isn't such a great availability when it comes to raw food products. Of course we got organic fruits and vegetables... but there isn't such a thing such as whole foods and as far as I know, there is only one raw food café in the country. One I still have to visit some time!
And the natural store I go to has some produce and products, but for example they only sell non-raw nut butters and I have not been able to find them anywhere in my country, except for online.
But I will be living in New York for a few months soon, and I know of a few very promising sounding raw addresses, so it adds to the excitement for my initial reason of going to the big apple ;)
So my financial sin is online shopping for raw thingies.
Oeh and now the fun part, if money was no object...
I would set up my own raw food restaurant and have the best quality products coming in, and hire some wonderfully talented raw chefs! And of course, eat at my own restaurant every day ;)

I'd have my watermelon cantelope and honeydew delivered to my door every single day and not have to carry it on the bus! I would buy blackberries and raspberries and papayas everyday also.

I want to contribute to this discussion in the hope that it proves something.
For me money is not scarce. I can buy whatever I want but the simple truth is that when you can buy whatever you want you seem to not want it.
I eat simple foods.
It does however mean that I can be sure that the nuts that I eat are raw and I can buy chlorella and multivitimin green and lara bars.

Sport! you lucky, lucky thing!
For me, if money were no object, I'd be living on a farm miles and miles and MILES away from any other civilization, except my dad, he can live with us haha. I'd have a GIGANTIC heated greenhouse (I've had the blueprints for this drawn out since I was in public school!) and turn my land into an animal sanctuary. Think here a couple thousand acres of land/forest.
I would produce the majority, if not all, of my food, and eat it to my hearts content! I'd be working and walking all day long with my animal friends to keep fit.
It would be a long, blissful life of love and safety!
aww...now I'm off to buy some lottery tickets! We can only dream so much!
Great thread!
*edit* I'd also use the money to put myself to veterinary school so I can care for the animals to the best of my ability!

They say that "no man is an island" and that goes for women too.
If I was alone in life then that is the life that I would choose but I would not give up my man for all of that and I do not think that he could live like that

Oh my goodness I love this thread!
I would have exotic fruit like pinneaples & mangos shipped from Hawaii to my door. I would also have meals that take days to make ordered so I wouldn't have to do all the prep work.....that would definetly include Alissa's calzone which one of these days I will make :)
If money really wasn't a concern I would go on vaca to like Cali & hit up all the raw restaraunts I could find!

I would build a raw food house with 10-20 rooms with private bathrooms equipped with whirlpool bathtubs in paradise. It contains a HUGE kitchen amply supplied with all the appliances required to make delicious raw foods. There are several large vegetable gardens and plenty of fruit trees. A resplendent library resource center containing books and state of the art technology so that guests can reference information easily and effortlessly. On-site massage therapists, nutritionists, meditation classes, raw food classes, fun activities, etc etc etc. This space would be available for free to anyone who is struggling financially and wants to transition to raw foods and is passionate about their life and purpose. It is a loving place to heal the mind, body and soul.

Well of course! :D
Donations are gladly accepted and go towards the upkeep of the home.
Mmmmm, good question! I don't think I would change my diet or general lifestyle - already the majority of my income is related to travel or raw food. Funny, I eat simply for a lot of the time (translate: it's cheap), but I play with my food and eat the gourmet goodies every time I host an event...
I *would* get massages and be pampered more if money were no object, though. I work hard and could use them, for sure!
I would LOVE to work/play at RawHeaven's place!!! :D

I drank coconut water once and it was nice but I do think that I would get tired of it very fast. I will never tire of water. I love it.

My dream is that all the dead processed food filled with chemicals cost a ton of money and the raw living food cost next to nothing, which is how it should be! Oh if only we lived in a logical world...

The first thing is that the subsidy that they have to support the sugar industry should be moved to support fruit and veg.

Adrienne love the animal sanctuary idea and vet schooling. RawHeaven, count me in! I could really use some massage therapy right about now. Both sound like great ideas :)
So, in conclusion I will steal the above posters ideas :p hope you don't mind too much!

I am a student in NZ and although I have money to spend on food I feel as though I should be conscious, prehaps I should worry about it less but when I have friends who are living on $20 a week for food (thats about $15US) and feel weird spending a lot more than them. If money was less of a consideration for me I would probably buy more expensive fresh produce includingthings such as melons which are 8 dollars each here at the moment. Cucumbers too.
I would also buy... a dehydrator, a vitmix and a gooooood juicer.

NUTS!
No, I really mean it, NUTS! Here in the Philippines raw nuts are either non existent or so expensive you need to be a millionaire to buy them!
Send me some almonds please!

Same in NZ. I really have no idea if the nuts I buy are truly raw. The best thing I can do pretend like the organic almonds are raw and only eat them on occasion. I should really phone up the supplier.

You and me both RawHeaven! Actually, we have started building the library already on this beautiful tropical island. Join We are having an RFT party! (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=54325) to see photos!
My wife and I donated the room, and a computer and 22" LCD monitor for teaching about Living on Live Food! We are hoping others will be kind enough to send the library some books, DVD's etc.
If anyone happens to get near Cebu, Philippines come by and chat a while over some nice Lato or kinilaw na guso (fresh seaweed salad) and some buko (young coconut water, freshly picked from the tree). That is what I am eating now as I type!
The Library is open to anyone who would like to learn about the raw vegan lifestyle.

I remember growing up that 1 pint of blueberries was supposed to last the whole family at breakfast for several days--and that was a big treat to have them on top of the cereal! Now I may eat a pint myself in one sitting.
I more or less allow myself to buy whatever I want of local raw ingredients.
I very rarely buy any prepared or imported foods. If money were no object, I would fedex in a crate of young coconuts or macaroons from One Lucky Duck or Apple Pie Larabars...

There are many I would help but I also would live where fresh fruit was abundant year round. I would like to buy produce & not have to think about prices or go to several stores to get the deals. A greenhouse too. Probably hire a chef for while until I became better. I'd also have a retreat where raw food was presented in luxury settings at a cost all could afford.

If money would be no object I would buy bunch of land here in Southern California and create the garden and orchard of Eden, healing retreat and part of it would be intentional community. Then I would eat things 100 percent alive and straight from the tree or vine(no dishes to wash!). Okey, maybe some dishes, because I do like green juices.
