My uncle was diagnosed with ALS in April after seeing some changes in his speech over the last year. So far it has only affected his tongue and throat, but his speech has deteriorated a fair amount since I saw him in July. I had bought him the book "Eric is Winning" and he and his wife read it and said they were implementing the program, so I was dismayed to see they were still eating very SAD (even though they both into "natural health." While I was visiting them this week, I read the book and now understand. The author doesn't really emphasize diet all that much. I mean, he DOES, and he says one should eat as close to nature as possible, meaning uncooked and lots of fruits and veggies, but then he goes so far as to say it is boring and doesn't taste good! He drinks two glasses of fresh juice a day to basically make up for the veggies he doesn't want to eat. And he talks about how much he cheats on his diet. The book more greatly emphasizes detoxing treatments and supplements. The guy has stopped and even reversed the progress of his ALS since 1998, and what I kept thinking was "Imagine how he could have done if he had combined this with an all raw diet?????" I talked to my uncle about it a lot, and bought him the book "Raw Food Made Easy for One or Two People." He is 73 and his wife works full time and they are raising their grandson, so anything they do needs to be very easy. I also plan to give them my old juicer as I really don't use it much at all. But I would love to get some links to success stories re ALS especially but any other neuro diseases like MS or muscular dystrophy, with a raw food diet. TIA.
