View Full Version : Throwing Out The Stove!

A number of months ago we sold the microwave. It just sat there anyway.
Then we shut off the gas - it just went to the stove and now our house is safer.
Finally got tired of people asking how we "use our stove" with all that "stuff" on it. The stuff was the extra things your kitchen gets when you commit to go raw for life! So we took it away! The stove, not the stuff!
We got that needed extra counter space! We aren't reminded of our poison past (anything that is not VeGenesis is not food and if it is not food, it is poison!). With no stove, no one asks why we have "stuff" on it.
Over all our whole kitchen is more comfortable and useful!
I just have one question...
Did anyone else get rid of their stove, or are we just crazy?

I covered mine with a piece o butcher block. Won't throw it out, because selling the house eventually without it doesn't work, and having to buy a new one would be just dumb.

I would, cannot, it is my landladies stove. I too use the top as a space (it is flat top glass) to prepare and i use the oven as storage, just like a cabinet.

Oh yeah. I have no stove or microwave that came with the house. I gave them to my daughter. I now have a freezer in it's place...

(anything that is not VeGenesis is not food and if it is not food, it is poison!).
Just a reminder that this forum promotes and supports people following Alissa Cohen's philosophy with eating raw live foods. We are not a religious board and we don't promote or support other belief systems when it comes to raw food eating. ;)
As for the stove... nope still got mine. My kids don't eat raw, so we have to cook their food somehow LOL

Haha if I had my own home I would have done the same!
rawrawks i've never thought of using the oven as a storage place what a great idea! :D

Since I still cook for my hubby, getting rid of the stove is not an option. But, when he is not around I cover the top (it's a flat top) with a big cutting board as mentioned above, and I use the oven for storage. BUT, I cover all the knobs with masking tape as a reminder in case hubby comes home when I am not around. Then he knows to empty the oven and move the cutting board if he wants to use it.

I hope that some day I can get to the point of throwing out my stove!

I'm with you, Brenda Sue! Wish I could toss that thing! But, I must say that I am cooking less and less with it. My family is slowly progressing to doing RAW more and more, especially with the kids following my lead during the day. With Hubby, well it depends on what I fix.
I like Rawrawks' idea about using it as storage...never thought of that! Gonna try that now!!!

I would love to throw out the stove, but it's not mine and I still cook for my girlfriend so it's out of the question.
I suggested that we should sell the microwave oven, but my girlfriend refuses. It's a bummer because it's a pretty expensive one so it could pay for a dehydrator.

I have two Thermadors in my kitchen which together are worth about $20,000. I would love to sell them and buy a new car!
I must say, they are beautiful to look at, but I don't use them for obvious reasons. My husband occasionally fries something (yuck) but mostly he relies on the microwave.

I cannot throw out any stoves or microwaves, because I am not living in a place that is my own, I live with other people who do use these things, so it would be rather rude of me to throw their equipment out! ;)
But, if I did have a place of my own, I would LOVE the act of getting rid of these things! I imagine it is a really powerful act, and the idea of a raw kitchen is... very exciting to me! I would build my own raw paradise! :D
So yay to everyone who has made their kitchens raw, I think it is fabulous!

What a great bunch of replies. I felt so blessed that I have a wife that supports Living on Live Food and that even our children have embraced "Papa's food!"
It is wonderful having a kitchen where sprouts are growing instead of a place where the stove was sprouting! And I can open the ref and eat anything I want!
You are right Emmanuelle, it is a very empowering act to be able to be so committed to this lifestyle that you can make your living space the way you want it. And have a family that supports this!
Although I surely understand all those that cannot do it for a good number of well thought out reasons! It shows how many have thought of it!

oven and hob belong to the landlord so I can't throw it out but my other half eats cooked so I can't anyway! I wish I could though because then I could remove the extractor hood above that is a blot on the kitchen and we bang our heads on and the extra storage and work surface would be wonderful. Oh well ... in another life maybe.
