Hello Everyone,
I just got back from a vegan retreat and I got really sick my entire body felt really bad, Iam only assume it was from years of abusing my body by eating alot of junk and then going through a detox. Does any one know is this normal?
Also I really want to improve my lifestyle but Iam having a hard time just find subsitutes for meat and dairy, I want to get all my 4 food groups into my diet I just don't know how to substitute things. Does anyone know of good books?
Thanks in advise for any help, and feedback!:D

Read Living on Live Food available here. Rock your world.
You are in the right place at the right time. Read, learn and eat raw and living foods. On your way to welness if you do that.

Thanks Revvell,
I might be wrong but I always thought, Fruit,Veggies, and greens where all in 1 group called Simple Carbs and Nuts/Seeds are are great Substitute for Meat, but what about Dairy?

What about dairy? We are the ONLY species that suckles off another! think about it. What do we NEED dairy for? Because the dairy association says so?
My four main food groups are what Revvell said...

You know Natalie, you're coming from the wrong perspective. I don't "substitute" anything. I eat raw food; a variety of it. You're looking at it from the American Standard Diet and that's not what we're about here.
Drop the 4 food groups as you know them and learn about nutrients and eating healthily.
Get Alissa's book and dvd's. You're going to be opened to a new world of wonder.
What nutrients would you be getting from dairy that you can't get from fruit, veggies, greens, nuts and seeds?
I tell you what you wont be getting ~ excess mucus; excess protein that blocks your body from getting calcium; indigestible protein; osteoporosis, arthritis, etc., etc., etc.,
Good site for you to check out ~ Not Milk (http://notmilk.com).

All the other diets out there I have seen substitute things. Like vegetarian diets have all this stuff that looks like meat...like seitan n tvp n stuff. And now soy milk replaces dairy etc.
I was never onto the replacements for things, as this is a whole ne wmindset, a whole new way of eating.
However, alot of the recipes in raw books similate our sad counterparts so as to make transition easy and to have some things to fill a need for that.
Alot of long time raw freshies, dont make alot of complicated, heavy gourmet foods. I personally have gone lighter and lighter as it is much too heavy for me. When I go to a gourmet raw place, I end up soooo heavy and sluggish (not even eating alot at all) due to the textures and heaviness of the foods.
So do what feels good to you. Make substitutes if you need for transition. You will find YOUR way and its ok however it goes.
As far as being balanced, raw balances. Simply eat and wide variety of fresh fruits and veggies, however you want them fixed raw and there is NO WAY your body will be deficient as it was on standard am diet.
In fact, you wont beleive how amazing you will feel!!!!

Natalie, are you talking about "substitutes" for what you get nutritionally from meat/dairy? Or you talking about substitutes for what might seem like meat/dairy?
If you mean cheese and milk, then there's nut cheeses and seed/nut milks. If you're talking nutrients, well, I've never looked at what to "substitute" for something that wasn't giving me value anyway.

Hi Revvell,
You are correct I was looking at this from a nutritional stand point so I was looking to substitutes for what I would get nutritionally from meat/dairy.
Thank you so much for such wonderfull information.

Hi Natalie, welcome to the forums!
:)
I see you got some pretty useful feedback already, so I just want to welcome you and wish you goodlook on your discovery of raw foods!
Oh, and yes I think it is very normal to experience detox symptoms while going from the standard American diet to vegan, and you might want to expect symptoms while going from vegan to raw food. One step at the time, the outcome is... amazing!:D
