Well, after all the hoopla over the Lara bar, I was at my hf store tonight and picked one up.
It was the Chocolate Coconut Chew. Well, I reacted to something in it. Apparently there was Cocoa in it and I *think* Cocoa has caffeine in it.
Did not know that until calling RawAdventures and she looked it up forme online.
I felt horrible and was aching and nauseous.
I learned my lesson. I am going to stay away from pre packaged even though it says raw! I'm sure the other flavors are just fine.
Anyways, one more day 100% raw. :D :)

My only experience with Lara bars was one I had last week with cashews and dates only. Given that I normally don't eat mixed food, It tasted ok, and was satisfying for when I was out and about. I may eat it again in a pinch, but mostly I try to carry around some whole fruit (apples, oranges, or cucumber travel well) to have while on the go.

Sorry to hear about your reaction to a Lara Bar :(
Have you had this happen before while eating chocolate products?
just curious...
fresh is always best...
with that said I do eat Lara bars on the run in the car, etc..and am thankful they help me stay raw because I am a highly unorganized person (unfortunately)
:p I love the cherry ones (my fave) and the chocolate ones are good during my cycle.
You might try making your own if you have a dehydrator...I believe
Pixiegreen makes her own...that way you can ensure what goes in them and so much cheaper....

Well, since Cocoa has some stimulant in it similiar to caffeine, that is where my reaction came from.
Since I've not had caffeine for over 4 years, I am sure that is what it was. I was up until 2 am!!! That's not normal for me. After the initial "drug" feeling (only way I can explain it), I was WIRED. I think I could have gone for a run! If it was not so late, I think I would have gone for a nice LONG walk!!
So, I cleaned out my fridge and got all my fruits and veggies put away. That was at midnight!
So, I was up 2 more hours just waisting time til I got tired!
No, I have not had a reaction to eating chocolate like that before, but that was when I was eating SAD and before I cleaned up my diet.
I will probably try it again, just will stay away from the chocolate ones!
Oh, I'd love to make my own at home, my husband would love me forever if I could figure that one out!
I think I will be PMing Pixiegreen...that is if she will share her wealth of knowledge with me! :D

Oh I am sure it was the caffeine too by your reaction; chocolate makes my husband sneeze so I think he is allergic. If you have not had any caffeine regularly you are probably really sensitive to it, esp. being raw now.
I remember the 1st time I had a half cup of coffee in my mid 20's...
I was so nervous and anxious from it...
Alissa had a similar reaction even with raw cocao...which I recommend you stay away from too.
There was a thread yesterday about making Lara Bars that Pixiegreen posted in.

Thanks, I will search for that thread!
Oh, I read up on cocoa and the way Alissa felt when she used it, so I will not be doing that! In some areas like that, I am very glad others have gone before me and tested things out! :)
