I just found out that my 76 yr. old mother has Artherosclerosis. I'm 55 and a raw foodist and have been sharing mine and others experience and miracles with a raw food lifestyle.. She told me this today and has been hiding it from me. I've been wanting to move her to California so I can teach her and cook for her. She says she's too tired to move. She also has fibromyalgia.

I know raw food heals, but this is my mom and I'm scared. Has anyone ever heard of someone this age that has healed from hardening of the arteries with a raw foods diet? The doctor said her arteries were the age of an 85 yr. old. And said it looked like this has happened because of smoking. She has not smoked in over 40 years. I want to go to Washington State to visit real soon and get her started and to start a cleanse. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I am soooo sad. I'm still her little girl.

Oh boy...the big stuff of life. I feel for you. I have an aging mother too. I showed her green smoothies but hse made some excuse why not to do them. Basically it was that she wanted to have her sad food. At this age, she is free to choose and I gotta let her. If she was worable and cooperative and raw was what she wanted, that be different.

So I guess I am not of help. Its her choice if she wants to make radical changes to her diet to turn this car around. You cant choose it for her. You can want it for her but shes has to want it too.

Sometimes its best to live and let live.

I hope she comes round for help.

my mom is 90 years old & was diagnosed of atherosclerosis sometime feb of this year. she was really in so much pain because of no circulation on both of her legs. because of it, she developed pressure ulcer on the side of her left middle toe. last may my sister came back from our home country with some boron & magnesium supplements from a naturopathic doctor. i also started to give her 1/2 cup of green smoothie am & pm. after just about 2 months the pain started to ease off & the doctor here said she started to have some pulse on both her feet again. i can't really say if it was because of it and/or could also have been because of the papaverin that the dr prescribed her. then, recently i came across matt monarch's website & he was saying that magnesium could reverse (?)/slow down calcification of the arteries. i can't really quote what was actually written there, you might like to take a look at his web site & search. good luck & i hope that you mom would feel better.

It may not be purely vegan, but I took 5 grams of lysine, 300 mg CoQ10 and mega doses of Sodium Ascorbate dissolved in lots of water - plus raw vegan. I had no feeling, little circulation in both feet. Heart nearly clogged, terrible angina. My doc told me 90 year old people are better than me... He was trying to prepare me to die.

Now I am completely different...

As the raw food kicked in I shifted more and more of the load to just raw food...

That is just what I did.

To compare, my elder brother has lost toes and half a foot. My younger brother lost a leg. Raw Food WORKS!

But will your mother accept a new lifestyle?

IMHO, even a little bit will help. Your mother may not want to go raw, but she may be open to eating more salads, drink juice, eat more vegetables, whole grains, etc. It's important to not eat processed things and stick to those things that actually grow in the gound and on trees. Even a cooked Mediterranean style diet is bette than processed junk.

Ian, RAW WORKS....no two ways about it. Thankx for that experience of yours!! Real value.

Even with circulation, I undestand how we get real cold as we detox and sludge is moving out but once it does we have way better circulation and get warm...haha

Raw cleans the pipes in sooo many ways.

Thanks for so many great ideas. This will help so many others struggeling with heart disease. I've been reading my mother these posts. She says she's willing to go about 80% if I can help her. If I can get her to move close to me then I can prepare a lot of meals for her.

I was thinking last night about when we were younger we took our parents for granted..thinking they'd always be around, and then we couldn't wait to get away from them. Now, I'll go out of my way to get her back to California. I am not ready to lose her. I'll do what ever it takes.

If you could afford it, i would go to a raw institute center with MD that do raw food. There are a few options or healing center that specialize in raw food. If she is in Florida, there is the Hypocrate Institute.

I read story of old people that reverse their condition with healthier diet.

Don't give up and continue to research. I would send some good DVD for her to watch about raw food etc... This might give her hope and inspire her to make change.

Even though she stopped smoking, if she is surrounded with people that smoke, she is a second hand smoker.
