Please help!!
I have two friends with Crohns disease and was wondering if any one new of any healing successes with Crohns and raw food diet - anything you know would be greatly appreciated.
One of my friends has already had five bowel operations and the doctors have said that if anymore of her bowel needs to be removed she will have to feed through a tube for the rest of her life - never taste food again!!
Would really appreciate ANY advice or knowledge you may have

Paul Nissan cured his crohns disease with raw food, you may choose to check out his website.
Hi squidly
I recommend the books on chrons available on this page=>
http://www.therawdiet.com/living_nutrition.html
Dave Klein wrote a good one about it. Paul Nison also wrote a good one about how he healed himself of chrons with the raw vegan diet.
The best thing for them to do is to attend a raw foods healing retreat and let the experts work their magic.

Squidly,
What a great friend you are, looking for answers for your friends! I have Crohns, and I know how painful and discouraging the experience can be. I can only speak from my own experience...living foods are very healing!
I believe that Crohns patients see the greatest benefits when we eliminate meat, processed grains, processed sugar, and milk from our diets. I have been a vegetarian for many years and cut down on these foods considerably. Still, it seemed almost impossible to delete them completely..what's left???
I always felt pain free and healthy after a juice fast, but would start to have imfamation and symptoms as I eased into eating meals again. That's why I was delighted to find this philosophy of raw food. It is a "fast" from all the culprit foods, and yet you can still dine on so many wonderful recipes! I have been so pleased with how I feel. I have not been able to stay 100% all of the time, but seeing the healing effect that high raw has created is leading me closer and closer to that goal.
Juicing, Green smoothies and flax seeds and oil would be my top recommendations to begin healing. I hope my experience can be of some help.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I now have some places to start which is great. I seem to be surrounded by sick people - brother and mother with type 1 and type II diabetes respectively, best friend with high blood pressure, frieds with Crohns, husband and daughter with bad allergies and the list goes on.................the good thing. SOME of my friends are listening and one has even been 100% raw for a week and says she feels great.............I will keep on talking them round hopefully.
Thanks again and any more information is much apprecaited.!!

And basically...he is squeezing all the raw food info out of me he can get cause he wants to know if raw would help him..I am going to try to get him Paul Nisons book..but would like to hear if anyone has had any sucess with it...curing it?..lessening it?..and maybe something about how you did it..thanks allot

Hi Dusty,
I am bumping up this thread in hopes that it will be of help to you and your roommate. In my experience with Crohns, the more living food the better!
It is also a blessing to be able to juice or blend your meals during a flare up!

Living foods are very healing. Many people have been able to heal their bodies of Chrohns and colitis with a RAW diet...as long as they stay RAW.

I've read many times, in different places, that Kefir is very healing for colitis. Kombucha may help, too, but I'd try Kefir first in this instance. (As a vegan option, one could use coconut milk for the culture, for instance, although, apparently, the culture will survive but not replicate if lactose is absent from the substrate).

I am a member of the Celiac Disease Foundation board in Phoenix. I have Celiac Disease which can often mimic Crone's disease, IBS, and Colitis. Celiac disease in short is an intolerance to gluten which is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats (questionable). It is also found in triticale, kamut and spelt. If they have any of these things in thier diets, they may want to try to eliminate them for at least a two week period to see if they feel better. In our world gluten is used in everything from envelope glue to lipstick, makeup, medications and vitamins, not to mention in many of the processed foods we eat. There are some people that believe that the essene bread and the manna bread is okay for celiacs, however, I contend that just because the grain is sprouted, does not make it safe to eat because you are still getting the grain and that is where the gluten is. However, wheat grass, barley grass is okay because you are not actually injesting the wheat/barley kernal. This statement needs to be verified for each person individually as some are more sensitive than others.
You can do some homework at:
www.celiac.com
www.celiac.org
These sites list symptoms and are in more depth.
Although I have never read it, so cannot comment upon whether it is any good or not, I believe Jordan Rubin claims to have cured himself of crohns with a raw diet and wrote a book about this, entitled 'Patient Heal Thyself'
Amazon carry it.
