Eat 100% raw.

Try cleansing your skin with coconut oil and/or use as a night cream.

Drink lots of water

Work out/ exercise/ sweat

Try to not use any skin products except coconut oil.

As someone who battled acne for over 20 years and tried everything under the sun to get rid of it, I fully understand what it's like and how miserable it can be.

My first bit of advice would be never, ever scrub your face with anything. Not even a washcloth. Just use a natural, gentle cleanser and use your fingers to massage it around. I was scrubbing my face with all kinds of things not realizing it was just fueling the problem because I was irritating my skin.

I learned on this forum about using papaya and other fruits on my face after cleansing, as a mask to clear away dead skin cells and it makes your skin really smooth. I also like fresh pineapple juice for this purpose. I rub it on, leave it for a few minutes until it dries and then rinse it off, then tone and moisturize with very natural, gentle products. ( It's really important you don't put harsh chemicals on your skin like the type of products you'd get at the drugstore.)

100% raw is also very critical, plus, eating organic as much as possible. The pesticides and sprays can really unbalance your hormones and cause acne flare ups as well as a host of other problems.

Your skin is the largest organ in/on your body and therefore, a lot of the junk in your system that your body cannot process gets filtered through it.

I would also strongly consider taking digestive enzymes with every meal and take probiotics to get plenty of healthy flora in your system. Another great supplement for acne is Zinc. In the Nutrition Almanac it says "Zinc - 30 mg. two or three times daily, has been found to be as effective as oral antibiotics; use a more absorbable form such as gluconate for maximum effectiveness." I can confirm this to be true for myself. It is recommended that no more than 100 mg. of zinc be taken daily.

These are all things that helped me more than anything else. Every body is different but the more you tune in to your own body, you'll know what's working and what isn't.

It may take a little while for things to clear up because as you make changes and your body cleanses itself, you may have some acne flare ups but they shouldn't last very long.

I wish you much success in clearing your skin. :)

Organic is the best but if you can't get/afford it, be sure to wash all of your produce b4 you eat or cut it. As pp, be very gentle on your skin, it may get worse b4 it gets better bc it's coming out of your body. When I first started raw, I broke out quite a bit..thought I was past that, in my 40's. It was coming out there. I used diluted apple cider vinegar (braggs if you can) & use it as an astringent. It will clear the bacteria out of your pores. 1cup water mixed with 1-2TBLS apple cider vinegar. Put in a spray bottle if you have one & mist your face & body b4 you get of shower. if you dry your face, just blot it.

My skin used to be a huge problem for me- cystic and I ALWAYS had blemishes! I ate raw for awhile--it helped. But what I did that changed my skin forever was a master cleanse. After I finished it, my skin was just different. Less inflamed, old blockages coming out easily. It was amazing. That is what I would reccommend, and follow that with a raw diet.

If anyone has skin problems I would highly recommend this- I think the master cleanse just functions as a powerful liver cleanser ( beacause of the large amount of lemon juice and water you consume) that in turn allows the skin to expel waste product easier and with less inflammation.

And I would definitely second the use of coconut oil.

I completely agree...my skin was already on the road to being fairly normal after I reached my 30's and hormones began to shift, but the MC was the final boost to very clear skin. Wow, this post reminds me of how awful so many years of horrid skin was! :( It is all stuff from the inside coming out...so sort out the inside as much as you can...

on top of some of the great advice, (I skimmed so I may have missed)

being 17 your not fully finished going through puberty so the hormonal changes are playing a part in your acne but the healthy eating should give a dramatic improvement and help kick its butt.

give the ret time if you dont see super fast results. they will go completely in time.

Hi Robert,

When I went raw, my face exploded with the worst acne I've had in my life! I think there are a few factors and that everyone's body/situation is different, and one thing I've pinpointed is fat/oil. The more I consume, especially having sugar within the same day, I get a burst of new acne. The more fresh greens I eat and cut way down on nuts, seeds, and oil (including coconut meat), it clears.
My personal belief is that it has to do with candida and my liver/gallbladder being bogged down and unable to process the fat and sugar, also due to colon issues. I've done some colonics and believed that helped a bit too. I'm definitely going to try that Master Cleanse. I'm sipping some right now and it's pretty yummy!

So as an experiment you could either:

a) eat a LOT of fat one day and check within 24 hrs to see if you have a fresh outbreak
(which I accidentally did one day ;)

or even better

b) eat a LOT of fresh raw greens, drink lots of water and cut the fat down to 10% or less or your daily calories and see if you start to clear up.
It takes some time for your body to deal with the bacteria and heal the skin, but it is definitely worth it to see your skin clearing up again!

Hope that helps, and good luck on your journey!

Angelique

As I wrote in my blog a few years ago, here (http://askcassyfirst.com/blog/?p=212#more-212) acne is often the result of imbalanced hormones, particularly testosterone. The article I wrote has a lot of female fans as it focuses on PCOS and female issues, but I bet you'll find something in it that will help.

Hormone related acne generally responds well to hormone balancing, which Raw is famously supportive of.

I encourage you to continue to raw food path, and remind you that with puberty comes a natural wave of testosterone for young men, and with time it shall pass. :)

In terms of good foods for acne, I recommend lots of water and green foods. These are particularly cleansing to the system. Fiber is key as it will promote your colon health which again is very important to removal of bile and excess waste hormones.

Watch out for foods that constipate, and spike the blood sugar...you may appreciate the Waisays diet (aka Free Acne Book) as an interesting read.

Topically, go easy on your skin and be gentle with yourself. Scrubbing and drying agents are more about marketing than function. Deep cleaning your pores is good, but not too often as the scrubbing will actually remove the natural oils from your skin causing you to overproduce more in response.

Good luck!

-Cassy

Beside the great advice you got, if you eat nuts, try to see if you skin gets worst. I just cannot eat nut without having to deal with pimples etc... If you do have reaction, try to find the nuts that work for you or simply go with the seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, chia, hemps etc...). I seem to be ok with macadamia, pine nuts and true raw wallnut.

I would do a fast and take extra enzyme.

hello

thank you all for the great advice.

Myabe its all the nuts i eat is causing the acne because i eat a lot and there not organic but they are wholefoods. The only problem is with nuts i feel i have to eat them or i will just give in and eat SAD food again.

All the vegtables i eat and fruit are organic but i cant afford to buy a load of them.

I do not drink any milk exept oatmilk wich i think is ok to drink.

Also water is a problem becuase i cant get fresh water it comes from the tap wich doesnt help.

I dont use a moisturizer but i do use a organic narural cleanser.

And i think thats about evrything.

I really dont now what to do now becuase i want my acne to clear but i dont want to give up nuts.

Please post more advice

thank you
