I was just making raw fudge balls in my vita mix.I"ve had it for around 9 years or so & it's always worked great. When I was just about finished blending the fudge balls it cut out.I turned it off ,turned it back on again. The light came on for a second then it cut out again. At first I thought it might be the outlet so I took it somewhere else & plugged it in & the same thing happened.
I got this when I was around 15 or so & i didn't think to register it so I don't think i could trade it in(I don't know if they do that anyway). This has could not have happened at a worse time;my mom & I are about to start the raw food challenge this week.I really don't have $400 extra dollars to get another one. If I packaged it up & sent it to them would they repair it?
Thanks
Sadly, I doubt it - I believe the warranty is 7 years.
9 years is a pretty good run.

Perhaps you might have wanted to call them before shipping it off just to be on the safe side. I HOPE they'll repair (or replace) it. But you probably should call them and explain your situation.
Just for future reference, fudge balls, date-nut torte, things like that are best made in a processor.

Oh...didn't know the warranty was only for 7 years.

I thought the vita mix was considered a type of food processor?

It is a food processor blender, which processes at a real high speed - those items mentioned work better in a food processor - slow speed.
I have a reset button on my vita mixer which is 18 years old and sometimes when I work it too hard, I wait a day and push the button and all is better. Does the newer ones have that button?

Have you tried it again since then? Sometimes when my Vitamix is overheating it shuts off. It'll stay off for about 15-20 minutes 'till it cools off. Then it's good to go again. I hope this is the case with yours!

First, let me say that I have a Vita Mix, and the company has always been extremely helpful, when ONE time I needed assitance.
Second, you don't have to replace the entire unit, so it shouldn't cost the whole $400, which has gone up by the way now. The retail cost is about $600 but you can always get them for less.
So, what I would do is call them, explain the situation, ask if there is a reset button, etc.
If they can't help you, as you didn't register it, then I would ask what their repair or replacement program is, many companies like this will have refurbished models at about 1/2 price.
Also, try ebay, you can usually find something this nice available on ebay, and if you have the container, blade unit, lid unit and tamper, all you need is the base, so you might be able to find one on ebay, or the entire unit at a much cheaper cost.
That is what I would do.
Also, you can just let it sit a couple of days and try it again, they have a built in mechanism that turns off the motor if it heats up too high, which is to save the motor from burning up. So, that might be what happened.

How long did you wait before turning it off? When I used a Vitamix, and it cut off, I let the motor cool down for a while and then it started back up again. Sort of like what happens with the hair dryer.

Hi, I just called the Vita Mix company today, 1 800 Vita Mix, and ordered another blender container, as mine had a stress crack in the bottom, it wasn't leaking so I was just putting it off, but this gave me a reason to call.
The part was only $23 I was so surprised as it was very inexpensive in my opinion.
Anyway, they said their repair and replacement is exceptional and very inexpensive.
