Hi Folks! It's been a while since I visited the site, although I was a regular here for quite a few years. Some of you regulars may remember me.
In 2007 I got pregnant with my son and since that time I have been unable to cleanse and detox due to breastfeeding, etc. Baby Will is now approaching 16 months and while he still looks for 'Mommy Milk' fairly regularly, he is not getting his staple milk and food from me any longer. :(
I say that to say that it was finally time to begin another fast! The last one I did was back in the summer before I got pregnant, and my body is craving the chance to release all of the excess hormones, etc I've built up.
I began my juice fast yesterday and while in the past I've loved to fast on the MC drink, this time I'm going less orthodox. I've begun experimenting more with green in my smoothies.
I wanted to say that while I have a bit of a detox headache and I saw a few hives on my belly this morning, I'm doing well. I work from my home office in Oregon these days so I've got freedom to stretch and relax while working and cleansing. I'm also dealing with a flareup in my L5, a disc injury from a car accident back in 2005. Here's hoping the fasting will allow some of that inflammation to subside too!
Good to see that Alissa's site is alive and well and that so many of you are still around.
Best,
Cassy

Now, day three begins. Honestly, I think this is the easiest fasting cleanse I have ever done. Kinda cool, because typically I get really hungry, or at the very least I start thinking or obsessing about chewing. Perhaps its the green smoothies...I also opted to allow a bit of fresh coconut milk/water into the cleanse to help with appetite, which may be part of it as well. (About a cup a day so far.)
As a nutritionist I'm well aware that coconut water and coconut oil are loaded with MCT while as a fat is actually burn like carbohydrates. Easier on the detoxification and metabolism.
Again, I mentioned that I was going a bit unorthodox.
Day three symptoms? -- No headache this morning, although last night I was still detoxing caffeine. ( I like a daily cup of tea or chai) Today, tons of vitamin C is flushing though my veins and system and no headache to speak of. I feel energized and charged up for work. We've got a big meeting in a few hours so it's really great that I've got my head on straight.
Generally I feel like quiting a cleanse round about day 5, that's where I typically turn the corner. So this means with days 4 and 5 falling on the weekend I've got my self covered. I was planning 7 days, so we'll see!
Cheers,
Cassy

Day Break Day Four. Still feeling wonderful. I did have a bit of a hunger pang just before dinner time yesterday, but that was partially due to the fact that I was at the chiropractors office and then at the in-laws without having my juice. I ended up blending a package of strawberries in the blender with water, and had that while the family feasted at a mexican restaurant. I was not hungry for mexican, just new my belly needed something! :)
Now, it's day four and since it is Saturday I'm hoping to run over to the farmer market in downtown to pick up some more fruits and veggies. We typically shop there twice a week using our bikes and burley trailer for my son, but with my L5 herniated disc acting up I've had to drive. This is a bummer because it is less than 3 miles away and I feel so wasteful driving. But you do what you have to I suppose.
Favorite juice yesterday was actually my potassium broth. (The broth from brocolli, celery, carrots, and potatoes.) Warmed me right up.

Day Five. Had a bit of a run in with the 'hunger' bug last night, but that was following a yoga session and I think it was more blood sugar than anything else. Had a nice juice and felt much better. Had some more of my broth too.
My back feels almost 80% better, which is great too.
We drove to a nearby town to see a wildlife rehabilitation center which was having an open house. Lots of owls and other birds. Baby Will enjoyed it.
Now we are going to an open house to celebrate an old friend of my husband's who recently married. Filled up on green smoothie just now.
I think I've decided to break the fast tomorrow because hubby's going to make butternut squash soup and I can't say no to a good soup. Particularly becauase we are expecting 28 degrees overnight. It's been a positive experience up till now and I'll fell good breaking the cleanse on a good note.
Thanks for the support.

Day Six and I'm still committed to breaking the juice fast today. Started the day off with herbal tea and a bit of watermelon. Will have some more fruity juice later this morning and will lunch on a light salad with avocado dressing. Early afternoon I'll sip the hubby's butternut squash soup and so will end the day.
I feel the power of high raw and healthfull foods! Thanks everyone for keeping me company.

Thanks, Aleesha. Your story is very inspirational. Like you, my father and step mum have used fasting and juice cleanses for the last decade, to overcome everything from overweight, low energy, and my dad's prostate cancer is even reversing! I say Three Cheers for healthy juice feasting!
Thanks again.
