I was reading about raw dieting and have a question.

More than once I have read you shouldn't eat more than two pieces of fruit a day. If that's true I'm in big trouble.

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks;

You can eat as much fruit as you could possibly want! There are absolutely no rules to eating raw, so please do not stress over it!

Yes some people have issues with too much fruit, or combining fruit with fats during one meal, but most people eat a heck of a lot more than two pieces of fruit a day!

I myself eat on average 5 bananas a day, 4-6 apples, a cup or so of berries, same amount of grapes, and maybe a pear or coconut. It's all down to your personal preferences and what your body asks for!

best of luck to you!

Eat up your fruit. It is our natural source of food. It was what our ancestors lived on as they roamed. They were not digging in the ground for veg. They were reaching up to the trees for the fruit.

While its true that most people will be able to eat as much fruit as they like, there may be issues with people who are very obese and are diabetic or pre-diabetic. Many of the raw food 'gurus' who are anti fruit are those that run clinics where they have to work with the sickest and fattest of the SAD abusers. In those cases large amounts of fruit - and particularly fruit juices - can cause the blood sugar to spike to dangerous levels. Its not the fault of the fruit, its just that an obese body can't get the sugars from the fruit into its cells because they are blocked with fat. For those individuals, a low fruit diet can be a temporary fix, until the cells have a chance to clear themselves of fat.

I was confused about that as well.
I believe that if your ill then limiting your fruit is a good idea to get better because sugar can feed certain diseases. For a healthy person and an active person/busy lifestyle fruit and as much fruit as you want is good.

Some days I eat only fruit and some days I eat very little.

Go with what your body says !

I recently read an article about belly fat being caused by an over production of insulin. The author suggested eating cheesy chips, corn snacks, crackers, and cheese for treats and snacks. PLEEEELEZZ!!! I'll take my chances and stick with fresh fruit when I need a snack!

Whenever you are planning to use nuts in a meal just ask yourself if seeds would do instead. I replace nuts with seeds in most things.

Honestly BrendaSue, I'd be more afraid of nuts than of fruit... Unless you are under serious doctors care, drink your green smoothy daily and have as much fruit as you desire... I lost 200 lbs doing just that!

Some "raw" nuts, like cashews, are actually steamed or boiled in oil to get the shell off... "Raw" referrers to not being roasted after being removed from the shell.

Most nuts are also acidic. Not a good thing. I try to limit it to two table spoons of walnuts for the benefit of my prostate. Almonds are most people's favorite as they are not acidic.

The Running Raw guy has a video where he says he doesn't worry about protein and doesn't make it up with nuts or seeds.

I do have to watch protein as I didn't start raw with a balanced approach. But if you are drinking your green smoothy each morning I would not even worry at all.

About fruit... Fruit Juice set off my diabetes. I do not juice. I actually am against it if you are going for weight loss, heart problems, diabetes, angina, high blood, gout, etc. etc. etc. Cancer is the one place where juice may be of value. But the whole fruit and veggies does better for me. It makes me less hungry too.

For anyone with Celiac, stay away from grain. Forget gluten free, stay grain free with the one exception of sprouted millet! Personally I sprout 1/4 cup of millet and 1/4 cup of small, native (Philippine) Mung beans daily. This may be too much for you, I am 6'4" and a target weight of 100 Kg (220 lbs). I like the B15 and B17 I get from them. I noticed they relieve some Celiac pain in my intestines. Wonderful. Stay away from other grains because the hulls are hard and sharp and will cut up your very tender intestines! It is not good for regular people but a must to avoid for anyone with Celiac. Of course a person with Celiac Disease must absolutely stay away from all wheat, rye and barley.

You can have Wheatgrass juice if you have Celiac. Just be sure to CUT the grass (use Sharp scissors!) and not get any root or seed in your juicer.

no raw rules for me
only rule is what my raw intuition asks for
