I posted this as a question to another post, but thought it deserved it's own post.
Especially since Sweetgoddess mentioned it in RawAdventures post.
I am just so curious about this, as I have been told it again and again.
When someone is eating 90-100% raw and their weight loss was 3-4 pounds a week and then slows to 1 pound a week, do you all think that is the body taking time to heal itself?
When I notice my weight loss is slowing, I notice sometimes a pain in the area my ovaries are. Hmm, makes me wonder if things are healing in there?!
The body is such a self healing machine when fed the right fuel, it's so amazing.
But, I wanted to get other people's thoughts on that and maybe other people's experiences!

Thanks!
Pam

I wonder if it coincides with you ovulating? there can often be a pain associated with the ovary first releases.

I too haven't lost barely if any weight in the last three weeks. its a drag, as Ihave alot of body fat to lose still.

From everything I understand about our physiology, and about our bodies on a raw diet, I believe that your body's number one prioroty is not always going to be emptying out those fat cells!

There is a lot of work to be done internally. The body has an amazing and astounding intelligence. It is going to always prioritize. Reparing organs, breathing, blinking, thinking, sleeping, clearing out mucous and toxins, pumping blood, nourishing and growing cells, digesting food etc and on and on, never stopping. Sometimes more is going to be needed in, for example, an organ that needs repairing which would place emptying those fat cells on the back burner temporarily while something more serious is attended to.

And for a female, energy is needed to ovulate and menstruate. I have to assume that would be a bigger priority for your bodies resources also.

Just a thought, I am definitely no scientist. ;)

You know, I am sure that you are right. I don't feel it all the time, just occassionally.
And for me it has also been the last 3 weeks of slowed weight loss also.
I am also nursing and noticed I really felt some pains then. Almost made me wonder if it was my uterus, but he's almost a year old. Don't think I'd feel it still.
Anyways, intersting how I can feel so much more in my body now. With my last two my midwife said how she loved how in tune with my body I was. I took that as a great compiment!

sweetgoddess, I agree with what you are saying. I am reminding myself often in the last three weeks that my body is healing itself and I just need to sit back and enjoy the ride! And the health benefits from it as well!!
Today has been 100% raw so far again!
I am out of salad and am having a friend go pick me up some so I can eat it for lunch!
Somehow I need to shift my mindset on focusing on getting healthier and not loosing weight. Don't know how to do that, maybe it just comes in time. But, I want my main focus to stop being on my weight loss.
Anyone got any ideas? :)

Well, Pam, my dh aided in that area for me 'cuz I was doing pretty good at not getting on the scale except for once a week when I decided to do 100% raw for 30 days. Well, after that, I started getting on the scale every single day again. Now I still haven't eaten a lot of cooked food or anything and for the past 3 days, I've been at 100% raw and I had the habit of getting on the scale yesterday morning to see where I was and then, doofis me, got on in the evening to see I was 4 lbs heavier than in the morning. I know, I know. It's just fluctuations with the scale, but I still got a little upset. So the dh didn't yell at me but told me that I was starting to let the scale control my life again, and it needed to stop, because it wasn't about weight loss anymore but about getting healthy and staying healthy. I told him to hide the scale, but he said 'no way. you've got enough discipline to eat healthier, so I know you've got enough discipline to stay off the scale, too.' And it came the conclusion that I'll just go by how my clothes fit and all instead (and one rule I always follow: I NEVER keep anything that's too big for me in my closet. For me, I see it as an excuse to gain my weight back) So I've had to shift my focus from numbers on the scale and find some other goal to aim toward, so I am toward fitness goals instead now. Makes it a lot easier to not focus on weight loss. That's for sure.

Also, there are days I feel and look heavier than others, and I have discovered, that usually, the following day, I am releasing a lot of excess garbage out of my body, and then I am back to looking normal again. I guess that could be another way of the body healing itself, too. So when I feel that way, I just totally believe that my body is getting ready to release more garbage, and then I'm okay with feeling that way for a day.

livenraw, thank you so much for your post and your experience.
I have a bad habit of weighing daily. Lately I've not weighed daily as not to get let down by the numbers. They are just numbers by the way! That is what my husband always tells me.
I have been keeping a weekly log of my weight and inches. I am assuming that I probably should give that up as I measure and weigh weekly to see if more has come off.
It's almost like an addiction. I wish that someone could take the measuremets, write down the number on the scale and then keep track of it until I get to my goal weight. Then when I'm done I can check it all out.
Just thinking out loud. I'm sure there's a balance there, I just need to find it!
Thanks!

Yes, that scale!
My best suggestion would be get rid of it. Hard I know, but if you do you could gain a new freedom.
The scale is often false. My mother, who is on kidney dialysis is an example of this. She can gain 20 pounds in s DAY.
That is obviously not her true weight, and obviously not fat!! It is fluid.

Pam, you said "Somehow I need to shift my mindset on focusing on getting healthier and not loosing weight. Don't know how to do that, maybe it just comes in time"
That is what happened for me. The shift came in time. How long have you been raw?
For me, I experienced so many incredible health changes, it became about that.

If you can, get rid of your scale and focus on how you feel.

Blessings~

I have noticed that during my menstrual cycle I have a loss of 0-1 lbs that week just as an FYI. But I agree that we should not depend heavily on the numbers on that scale. It will make you a raving loon! Trust how you are feeling, looking and how your clothing is fitting. :D

I don't have my menstural cycle back yet because of nursing my baby, but maybe it still have the same effect on the body of when the cycle would normally be?
Yes, the scale is my big enemy and the camera! So, I need to be careful with those two things!

Thanks for everyone's ideas and encouragement!

How long have you been raw?
Well, I have been 85-95% raw for about 1 1/2 months now. I have only been 100% raw for 1 1/2 days! :)
I forgot to answer this before.
But, I did get over a huge craving for some Ezekiel bread and ate fruit and then just had a delicious salad. That HIT THE SPOT!
I can't wait to go grocery shopping tonight and get some yummy fruits and veggies!

 Aw, I agree with Pizda - the body is a wonderful and magnificent thing, however it has it quirks and works the way that is best suited for it.

When your body get dehydrated, it hold on to all the fluid that it can, and swollen ankles, hands, etc show up. It is the same way, with a quick weight loss, the body has memory of what it had stored and in many cases, it will regain the weight very quickly and sometimes even more.

However, when you lose slowly, your body begins to repattern itself and adjust to the weight loss. So, IMHO, slow and time as Pizda states is really on your side. To quote Allison who has lost lots of weight took 1 year to lose 100 lbs - now that claculates to 8.33 pounds per month or 2.083 per week. Now, if I recall, some weeks were more, some less, the point is after a year, she had reached her goal.

Look within to see what it is that is happening for you. It appears the scale and the camera are not your friend - and do not use this as your barometer, until you begin to work on your self-image - which is how you feel about you - always go inside and be blessed for your efforts.

Thank you everyone! I am slowly realizing what are my friends and what are my enemies.
I am concentrating on my health and how I feel and how my clothes are fitting! I've got to do that or I will feel defeated and I am not defeated.
I just love this site and all the ideas and encouragement I get from it!
