Hi there,

I used to have IBS and have not had it for about 2 years now, but have just had what I believe is the worst flare up I have ever had. We just moved to Northern Canada and while getting to know so many people and being invited here and there and everywhere I had gotten back into the habit of eating cheese, something I haven't done in over 10 years. I am convinced that it irritated my bowel and when I had some lentils caused this insane flare up.

So, for five days I have not been able to eat anything, other then some soup broth and I did try toast (NOT a good thing to try). The pain on the right side has been unlike any other flare up I have ever had, has been excruciating to the point where I have thought maybe something really terrible is wrong, and I am at my wits end with what on earth to eat or if I should just drink water or if I should do juices or what to start with.

I feel lost and am asking if anyone has been through anything similar or known someone who has and what to do about it. I was going to go see a doctor today just to make sure that it wasn't something else more serious, but seeing how we are in a small rural town, I can't see him till tomorrow. And I might add I don't ever go to doctors because of their intimidating and drug prescribing ways, but feeling frustrated and don't know what to do.

Was hoping someone here could help.

Thank you for any advice or insight that you could give!

Are you wanting to go raw? Cause I'm not getting that from your post. It sounds like you are eating cooked food...

Before I became raw, I had an issue where I could barely eat anything. I found apples to be the one food that agreed with me. Within a week or so, I could eat regular meals. This started my raw journey.

Yes, I am eating some cooked food :( , but I am trying to introduce more and more raw all the time to my diet. But having this flare up has left me lost in knowing what I should eat or drink first because I don't want to make it worse then it currently is. I don't know if I should eat or if I should just do juices or are juices going to be too hard on my bowel because they still have some fiber or are there specific juices or foods that heal the bowel when you are in a flare up, or do I fast?

Sorry, I am just feeling lost about the whole thing and frustrated that I still have pain 5 days later and don't know if I dare try putting anything else in my body but water and soup broth.

Thanks for any help!

actually green smoothies are not the answer rawrawks. the people i've met IRL who try that approach find a lot of pain with their digestion.

i would fast myself... fasting is soooo healing and allows your body to rest.

fasting on water or green juices would be soooooooooo healing.

Just so you understand... this forum is for people who want to follow Alissa's Cohen's philosophy on raw foods. Here's a link (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=2933) and here's another link (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=33779) to give you an idea on what can and cannot be discussed here.

Cooked foods is not discussed... just so you know.

Thanks for the input Aleesha! I am just curious will the green juice not still have fiber and will that still not be considered ruff? Or are the properties from the greens so healing the fiber won't be a problem?

Sorry for mentioning what you pointed out I wasn't to mention.

It is just frustrating when you are trying to transition slowly and you constantly get met with temptations and flare ups. Maybe I should read her book!

I do so appreciate your help!

Already mentioned apples. Just eat them alone for a few days.

Hi, northern prairie girl. First some history:
Was "diagnosed" with "nervous stomach" AKA IBS at the age of 11. Suffered terribly with it for years. Sometimes better sometimes worse. At age 35 I got extremely ill and found out I had celiac disease. cutting out gluten helped at first but I eventually developed colitis and was again very ill.
Fast forward a few years. Got my colitis under control but still had a sensitive digestive system even without eating gluten. I started raw four months ago and for the first 2.5 months I had diarrhea non-stop. I felt well otherwise so I stuck with it.
Then I did a three day water fast followed by 5 days of green smoothies. It stopped the diarrhea COLD and my digestive system is SOOOOO much better now! I still have some room for improvement and so am doing another three day water fast, and will continue this periodically, along with eating raw, until I am at 100%.

I suggest you go GLUTEN FREE immediately and see if it helps. And do a water or juice fast until your tummy feels better.
