That were purchased on 09/27 and had a 'best by' date of 10/11.
They were definitely slimy, but still pretty firm. I had about 4-5 baby carrots before I threw them away.
Dumb hypochondriac question from a long-time lurker..I'm not gonna get sick am I??

I've gotten "slimy" carrots before too. I wonder what causes the "slime" ?

i think it's because of the way they are treated...
i wouldn't eat them but i doubt they'll make you sick.

You also appreciate that they are not "baby carrots". They are any carrots send through a machine to form them into "baby carrots". Then they are rinsed in something - probably chlorine. Yuck. Eat real carrots with tops on them;)

I've had a bag of baby carrots mixed with other veggies when I didn't have electricity and the carrots turned to slime in my unworking fridge within days, they were older "Managers Special" veggies as well...so yeh I assume your carrots were improperly stored at one point, or just old.
As for you getting sick, I doubt it, me and my brother indulged in the carrot slime yuckfest and were tiptop. At that point they were more liquid than solid, they weren't even slimy carrots, they were carroty slime. You'll be aight man.

I posted about this a while back and somebody put up a link to the Grimmway site where it said they get slimy because they were left out of refrigeration at some point.
I have accidentally eaten a slimy one now and again and I'm still here. But I wouldn't eat them that way on purpose. In fact I stopped buying them at the one Costco because they always seem slimy. I was buying them at a different Costco before and they never were. Also had trouble with a Safeway that was taking forever to do a remodel. I think they were getting moved around a lot and left out of the fridge. Since they have finished the remodel, no problems.

Hem... The natural way of wilting for carrots is to go a bit brown, tender and wrinkly. But slimy ? yukkkk ! Never in a natural way !!
This happened to me once with 'organic' carrots bought at a supermarket. Never bought from this source again, I was sooo disgusted. I have serious suspiscion those carrots have been irradiated, since this is now legal and widely practiced.

I agree that you won't get sick with one occurence of this. But better buy from the farmers' market !

Glad it's not just me with the slimy carrots!
Up until recently (just moved) I purchased my carrots at the local Whole Foods; the 5 lbs. bag of organic "baby carrots"... and after only a few days -- well before the "use by" date, I'd notice they would start to get slimy. Pissed me off, cause I expected good quality with the prices the WF charges.
I'd just rinse them and use them, until the last batch I had... they were just too disgusting!
Anyway, just purchased the 10 lbs. bag of Earthbound Farm brand organic baby carrots at the Costco in my new city -- and they seem in much better condition.
But what's this I read about baby carrots being irradiated??? Yikes. Does anyone know about the Earthbound Farm brand? Where do you all source your carrots from? Carrots are a staple in my (attempts at) daily juice.
