View Full Version : 4 Year Raw Foodist Losing His Hair!

Hey guys, my name is Brandon and I'm a newb to this board. I've been reading the posts and I *love* this board. :D

Here's my situation that maybe you can help me with.

I'm a 23 year old male and have been a raw foodist for 4 years, and 7 months ago I noticed a recession in my hair line on the temples.

It was small, and I showed to others and they couldn't even see what the hell I was talking about.

But over the last 7 months, my hair line has receded ever so much more, and just recently I noticed the rest of my hair was thinning as well.

To say the least, this is on my top 10 list of most scary things that have happened in my life. I just walked on Grand Canyon Skywalk a month ago, and that was nothing compared to this!

I've done a lot of studying on the net about this, but most of the info is coming from unhealthy, fear based people and it's not helping.

I've heard things that DHT is responsible for hairloss, which is a byproduct of testosterone that binds itself to hair follicles starving the follicle of nutrients, so I've been talking things like saw palmetto and stinging nettles which are supposed to block DHT stopping hairloss, but I've seen little effects... but I have seen new small little hairs growing out of the middle of my forehead!

Weird.

I even got a natural hair loss product called Provilus, which is supposed to grow your hair back but has not even seemed to help stop the progression of this hair loss.

My question is, what the hell is going on?

Is this DHT related, and Male Pattern baldness and irreversible and natural? Or is that just a load of crap and I'm doing something very wrong in my approach to health, and maybe I have a deficiency/excess/candida/detox/alergy issue?

Here's my basic diet for the last few months.

I have a cacao shake every morning with maca, pumpkin seeds, agave and occasionally coconut meat, blue green algae, camu camu, vitamineral greens (a green powder)

Then in the evening I usually have a kale salad, gone nuts (http://www.gonenuts.com/) (soo delicious), Leaf Cuisine Crackers and a kombucha.

Then in the evening I have been eating cooked quinoa with raw olive oil.

I've been using Alba hair shampoo and conditioner which I just found out has the sodium stuff that makes your hair thin, so I'm off to Euphoria to get some MSM apple cider vinegar shampoo/condition without that BS....

I've also been going through some stress recently with of course this hair issue and also business, and I've really felt my heart close a lot recently.

Anyhoo, I really, really...REALLY hope you guys can help me. I've read the other posts on hair loss which has helped a little, but I'd like to know if there is anything else I can do that I'm missing.

Thank you so much.

Nameste

Brandon :)

Are the men in your family bald? Some say the mother's family has more influence on the hair of the sons, but I don't know if that is true. But I do know that MPB is VERY genetic, so if your dad or grandpa or uncles were bald at an early age, it is pretty much written in the stars that you will be too....sorry! But just so you know......it really is NOT that big a deal to women. Look at all the men who shave their heads these days. Much more important things to worry about in my opionion, like your personality, and hygiene, and how you treat your mama, etc.:D

I was always told you need to look at your mothers brothers. So yes my kids have my brothers hairlines.

Bald these days looks pretty cool actually. AND yes, how you treat your mother....hahahahah

Yeah I'm not really too concerned with how others will perceive me. Besides, I love my personality, I have good hygiene, and my mother loves me very much thank you :D ha.

But seriously, this is more of a self thing.

I've always loved my long hair, and have become attached to it, and I don't plan on losing it. ;)

My grandfather on my mothers side does have a receding hairline, however his did not appear until his forties.

My uncle as well did have a receding hairline, but again, his did not show up until his forties.

My father did not seem to have very much hair loss at all.

My great grandfather (my mother's mother's father) had basically a nice head of hair until he died at age 102.

This is why I am confused.

I know that the genetic "predisposition" can be passed down through generations, however I've hear too many doctors, plastic surgeons and other "authorities" say this to fully believe that is true.

I have a certain amount of distrust for the medical establishment, as you MIGHT know... :)

I feel like they have ulterior motives for making me feel hopeless, like selling me their shit.

"Losing your hair? Sorry it's hopeless loser...Until now with our brand new product Grow Hair Even On Your Ass! Just $12,326!"

:p

But if there's any GUYS out there who have learned something, I'd love to hear what you have to say.

Thanks.

It doesn't seem like you're getting much fresh raw food, but a lot of packaged products. Those are good while transitioning and occasionally, but when raw for awhile you should be eating primarily fresh produce. A green smoothie with 2-4 cups of greens is ideal and especially to help with hair growth. More minerals is what you likely need.

The Conditioner-Only Method is one of the best methods for hair growth. http://dimondhealth.com/personalCare

Welcome to the forums :)

Stress is a very dangerous thing,- try to get rid of it asap. Try to go 100% raw with lots of juicy fruit and veg and watch the magical effects. I wouldn't trust any chemical products at all. Good luck.

I'm not a guy yet, from reading your post, I agree with Dimond. You seem to be heavy on the so-called "superfoods" and light on the fresh, raw, organic fruits, veggies, GREENS, nuts and seeds.

As far as "stress" goes ~ you've got choices. Hopefully it never "goes away" because it's what makes us strong ~ or rather, how we handle it does.

I do have to say though ~ if losing your long hair is the biggest issue in your life, you've got no issues. (not saying it is; just saying what is) :)

Good luck on your journey.

Revvell...due to the comma position I read your post as...'I'm still female, but when I eventually morph into a guy' (maybe one of those raw things, a bit like brown eyes turning blue for some people)... :D

Brandon M...do you eat other stuff besides those two meals? Do you snack in between? Maybe you need to give the cacao a break and see if that helps.

I'd also suggest quitting the cacao. And then stressing more fresh foods especially greens. Also, terramin clay. It's a living clay and I've been taking it for awhile and my hair has thickened quite a bit since. Might help you too with time, do a google search and try it out. You need more silica rich foods too, such as greens, cucumbers and things like that.

Hey Brandon ~

I have been 100% raw for a few years. I do the green smoothies, no packaged, no dehydrated, only fresh stuff thing. For me, it is genetic. My brother, father, grandfathers, etc have hair loss. I tried to fight it, but no luck. Hoped raw would help. Don't think so. Life goes on...

Acceptance is a beautiful thing!

I agree with the suggestions re: scaling back the non-fresh food and starting a green smoothie regime.

Also, try quitting the cooked olive oil. (More harmful than the cooked quinoa, IMO).

Not sure if it would help if it's MPB, but after I got really sick last year and lost 70% of my (once long & pretty) hair I started using coconut oil on my scalp (a little goes a very long way) it's all growing back (now I look like I have a badly grown out weave, thank science for hats...) In addition to more fresh food it's worth a try anyway... Good luck ;)

That's not at all "it". What it is is, people keep talking to the "guys" and, as a woman, I am responding and not one of the "guys" and never want to be, especially since passing through the menses stage to the freedom of meno. :D

Um...cooked quinoa??? and that is Raw how?
...!

It is still a very healthy choice. If you are going to eat anything cooked then this should be the one that you pick.

I heard, that wheatgrass juice helps, so i guess any green juice would(fresh, not the powder from the bottle).
