I run cross country but keep having to use the bathroom during races.I think I may be eating to much and would really like to be able to concentrate on running instead of 'going' haha. It seems silly but it's happened twice now and is getting in the way of my running during races. What and when should I eat before a race?

Mmmm this is just me, but after researching a lot (and also depending on your race time) I take a protein shake (raw protein) with spirulina, maca powder, cacao powder and goji berries.
Most of this are superfoods and I just take one glass, I just ran a half a marathon and I KNOW! what you mean with the WC:rolleyes: this is the only things that helps (and obviously) going before the race.
This is just what worked for me!
Some people like to only eat a banana for potasium, I tried it but you can feel it moving in your stomach after 45 mins, so I stoped.

For a couple mile run, sure, but cross country? No way, i need serious fuel, personally. I eat whatever I feel I need, then spend 30 min to an hour stretching, yoga, etc, and then head out for a run. I don't ever feel the need to go during a run and attribute it to the timing.

Thanks for all the advice, I have a meet tomorrow so I will begin experimenting with what everyone said. I think for sure I definatly need to eat less though. I'm pretty sure overeating before races is mental because people are constantly worrying that I don't get enough nutrients/proteins/calories eating only raw food (ha!) that I feel I always have to prove them wrong by eating a bunch. Well, I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks again

I just completed a 56km run last weekend and although I am not 100% raw, I am very high raw. Before the run I had a banana and on the run I carried a few bottles of a mixture of bananas and apple juice blended as well as another bottle of coconut water. I also had pieces of a whole banana on the course as well. I loaded up with fresh, cold fruit after the run. Oh I also made these blueberry bars (all raw) by Brendan Brazier and had a couple of those on the course too. Good luck at your event!

i did a 10 day water fast and was running 2 mile clicks
and working all day at medium duty manual labor job
were i expend alot of energy
same on a 20 day juice fast
and im my fastest on about day 5 of a juice fast with my gut empty
and light , i FLY then
but i'll say my first 5 or so fasts were tough and could only get up to 3 days first couple , but then you adjust . but those were water . so i think you could juice fast day or two before races and do great
my best energy juice is a V8 mostly tomato type juice
