My boyfriend saw this recipe and wanted to try it.

Here's the link to watch Paul Nison's wife make it.

I watched this a couple days ago and all I can say is, "I wanna make this PIE!!!" At first I was surprised at the amount of bananas in there - but like they said, they were feeding a crowd and it's not something you'd eat half the pan of.

I'm definitely making this. I'm glad you shared it here! Good idea! *Ü*

No prob DebB

I used 1 cup almonds (that werent soaked)
6 Dates
1 vanilla bean scraped the insides

2 bananas
small handful of unsoaked pine nuts
1 scraped vanilla bean
and 6 dates

I layered it like Paul Nison's wife did too.

I think she put in the whole vanilla bean? Even the outter part??
Has anyone done that?
Is it good?
Does it give a much stronger vanilla flavor as oppose to just scraping off whats on the inside?

I have seen many of the chefs toss in the bean portion whole BUT only in a high speed blender. They said if it is a regular one to scrape the seeds out.

I've never thought of adding in a portion of the bean like she did!
I definitely want to try and see if it enhances the vanilla flavor.
I'd have to make a large batch of something though so I can use the vitamix.
I prefer using the FP when making small batches.

I use the entire bean (well half one) when I am making ice cream.
I put some seeds and the half bean in the coffee grinder and then add that to four frozen bananas in the food processor. I then eat the entire thing myself.

the beans are about 2.00 each or more around here. I don't use as much vanila as I'd like in things.

Coffee grinder.. good thinking.
So would you say that the vanilla flavor is stronger when your but the outer layer and seeds in as opposed to just the seeds???

Buy them online; they're much cheaper that way.

I can not say as I never tried it the other way.
