I began studying Tai chi in 2001 after my final cancer surgery as a way to de-stress and maintain my health. Yesterday I celebrated 8 years cancer free!! WOO HOO :D and I attribute much of it to my experience with Tai Chi.
As spicyfull said, it is great for flexibility as well as generally fit. It is like moving meditation which is great for keeping alert, handling stress and anxitey and keeping a clear and peaceful mind.
Tai chi promotes peacefulness and fills your body with Chi and positive energy. I have found in my practice (both on my own and in the dojo) the forms (24 and 60) give me what I need at that moment be it energy, peace, flow or relaxation.
There is so much deapth to Tai Chi and so many ways to practice. Last night I practiced with idea of the elements of wind and water which allowed me to dilgently and fluidly push trough the controversial junk of the day and get my energy back.
I could talk forever - if you want more info or have more specific questions I would gladly awnser them, you can pm me if you want.
