I just found this review that put me off for life, and I agree with it by the way, there are much better juicers out there.

It seems many do like it including myself although, it's not the one I chose to stay with.

It's GREAT for juicing the hard stuff ~ carrots, beets, and the tougher greens. I use to make beet, carrot and spinach juice. You DO have to drink immediately as it does heat up.

It's also great for making "ice cream" using frozen fruit. Yes, it's HEAVY!
I used mine for YEARS and it's what my teacher is currently using ~ or, last I heard so, it's not the piece of crap stated in the review ~ imo.

For an all-around juicer it's not the best. My preference would be Green Power (or whatever they're calling it now-a-days) or, the Samson which is what I have now. They're slower by far, do not heat up and can juice any green you put in w/out fear of losing too many nutrients. The juice can last up to a couple of days but, not recommended.

he said it has a spinning blade at the end ???

and further googling , someone wrote that they cut a little bit of the end of their finger off !

So , if a juicer has the capacity to cut fingers off, I wont buy it.

I have an omega 8005, which wont cut my fingers off.

I've had two and neither had a spinning "blade" at the end. The idjit that stuck their finger into the end... what to say?

I don't think the person that wrote that review likes the Champion Juicer very much. lol

Since marrying a Dane, that's what we call a Danish understatement.

It's the end of the blade. The teeth on the blade are further up on the blade. What you see, the S shape is plastic. No, I wouldn't want to stick my finger in there regardless.

We've had our Champion since the early 80s and are very happy with it. *Ü*

The only juicer Ive ever tried was by Hamilton Beach. I LOVE it! Bought it for $4.99 second hand. The down side is its too good at removing the pulp and I happen to love the pulp and all the fibre that gets wasted being dumped into the pulp bin is such a shame, but other wise it makes great juice and there is nothing left of what ever goes in. Mine is an older model. I would never give it up. :D

We have the champion juicer and yes when the machine is on there is tiny tiny little blades that spin inside (this is how it does what it does). You have to be an idiot to put your finger in (where the food comes out of) while the machine is still ON! lol...

We use it for making ice cream from frozen fruit and making nut loaf type dishes. We love it :)

O.k., it's been awhile since I had mine so, unless something's changed ~ which, according to the op's favorite review, it hasn't ~ it has what's called a cutting blade with rows of VERY sharp teeth so no, it's not JUST at the end. As was said, that is what makes it do what it does... and quite efficiently ~ including cutting fingers of idjits who choose to put their fingers into it.

I just used mine tonight to (unsuccessfuly) try to make almond butter. While mine is ancient (the avocado green color is a dead giveaway :)) if the design is the same, you would have to seriously jam your finger WAY in there to get it cut off. The end of the dealio with the blades on it is a good inch inside the outlet, and the blades are another inch or so up from there, and it is not that big an opening. Someone would seriously need to try very hard to reach those blades.

I tie a nut bag on my pulp open end to catch all the stuff. I do have to lean way over the machine to turn it on so I am always afraid my shirt might get in that open end with the turning plastic part. The nut bag protects me and catches the debris.

...how does it destroy nutrients by rotating fast? Does it get hot or something?

next, it was probably good in its day. Juicers evolved... and most juicers are normally kinda loud right...? and... I may not know what I'm talking about here but doesn't the juice normally settle... and since its not pasteurized, te juice wouldn't keep for more then a few days anyway...

So why not just buy a centrifugal juicer, they spin fast, and everyone says it destroys the nutrition

thats how

Not everyone. Many enjoy theirs and have found great health through them. My mother had an old Acme. Certainly not the best but better than juice that was in cans in those days. People often have to do what they can with what they've got.... and they do.

I have one and since I juice everything pretty fast and start with cold veggies my juice is still quite cool when it's "done"...I make it right before I drink it, so don't really see that as a problem.

As for the danger of it...any machine can be misused and have accidents happens...anything that cuts, slices, blends or juices is sharp...keep yer fingers away from the blades????

I have had my Champion for so many yeeeeears! It has gotten me through many a juice and veggie fast, I have made many nut butters, I have enjoyed banana icecreams,etc...for about 19 years!!It is solid. Its a beautiful piece of machinery. It has only once needed servicing because of a mistake i made and the customer service just talked me through. The company is awesome. It is small and simple and somehow has stayed in biz word of mouth for a zillion years because it is an incredible company with an incredible product and people talk.So there, I LOVE MY CHAMPION...not saying its the best, I am saying its wonderful!

Wow he's complaining about the 1000 rpm...Now what should I do, I'm about to buy a Breville XX800JEXL Elite which is 6500 rpm (at the lowest!)
I don't want to lose all the nutrients!!

IMHO...any juicer you use is the best juicer for you. Make it, drink it...sometimes we worry this stuff to death.

I agree

Obviously some nutrition survives.

Otherwise ask yourself the simple question, why do single auger juicers exist ? They exist because they say it preserves more nutrition.

yes obviously, centrifugal juicers are quite good, and I admire them from a design/engineering perspective, but if you only juice carrots and apples, theres no point juicing at all.

Carrot juice is higher than white sugar on the GI list by the way. Or GL list, whatever it is.

Not true again. MANY people have healed themselves with just carrot juice. When I had my Champion, my favorite juice was carrot, beet and spinach. That was basically all I juiced.

You're not familiar with Normal Walker are you? He talked a lot about carrot juice and lived well past 100 years of age ~ or so it is said.

I bought a Green Power (Kempo) juicer 4 years ago. They look like the Champion, but have twin blades. I loved it until the gear box wore out. The company will not answer my emails. The Samson is the same as the Green Star, a sturdier version of the Kempo, and made by a different company.

That breville is a million times better than the champion.

And, maybe Im wrong about carrot juice. Its just that I avoid it. But i have heard it works for some people.

Edit, the green power kempo is a completey different design than the champion. Its just a twin gear auger.

I love mine - but I use it more for making raw pies (sweek potato) and "breads" - grinds everything up amazingly- more than regular juice - and I don't believe it does citrus.
