I found a brand made locally but I don't know enough about Essene bread to know what to look for to determine whether it's 100% raw, or not.

Ask them how it's made, more specifically, the highest temperature that is reached in the process of crafting the bread.

Are there any brands of truly raw essene bread? If there are, that gives me hope they'll become available here.
So far my home made attempts have been absolutely dismal to say the least. :(

I dont think essene is raw. It is simply sprouts all pressed together and baked. From what I know about it. Might be mistaken.

According to a Raw Recipe book I read, "The Essenes would sprout their grains, mash them up, and set them in the sun to dry."
And we all know sun dried is pwn.

What makes you think it is raw? All the recipes I've seen for it call for it to be baked at 250 degrees. Some would say it is a living food because it is made of sprouted wheat. But I've never seen a claim for raw.
ETA: I stand corrected. A search for "raw essene bread" brought up recipes to be made in the dehydrator. I don't know where you would buy such a bread. I would think it would be highly perishable.

Essene breads are super simple to make. Just sprout some wheat till the tails are as long as the grain and put it in the food processor with some soaked dates. Only add water if you need to to get things moving. Process until 'doughy', form into thin loaves and dehydrate for a couple of days. Start with a teflex sheet, then after a day, take off the teflex, flip the bread and continue on the regular screen until firm on the outside and moist but not wet on the inside. Poke a knife into the bread to check. You can add raisins, nuts, grated carrots, zucchini, etc. This is one of those things where its best to start on the higher side of dehydrating temp for a few hours, and then lower the temp so the bread doesn't ferment.

Can you simply buy me a llama, even though I know what pwn and pwned are?
Walnutty, coincidentally I just bought (and ate) some of that bread! It's kind of like pumpernickel rather than essene bread, but it's lovely!

My raw foods teacher used to make live bread by putting a "dough" into a bowl which she put on a plate which she put into her slow cooker. So.. the bowl is sitting on an upside down plate in a slow cooker. That part I remember. She set the slow cooker to a very low temp and the next day she had her version of a live bread. It had a fibrous texture like no other I have ever tasted but it tasted really good. It was heavy, I mean literally..it weighed more than ordinary bread.
She told me she learned how to do this in California. I have since lost contact with her and I don't know the recipes. She had more than one bread she made this way.. One was a date loaf, another a flax loaf and another that was a spicy garlic type bread.
Does anyone know about how this is done or what ingredients would work well ?
All good,

Well, I'm eating a "raw" Essene bread I found at a local market, made locally. I will contact the company and ask how low their low temperatures are before I buy more. :D

BTW, I love that llama doll. I want one now. To add to my woolly collection. He rather looks like a long-legged woolly....
