Hi I am an American woman living in Phuket Thailand. Not sure when I first heard about RAW but when I did it just clicked. Like this was the solution to all my food issues. (compulsive eating, eating to much wheat, bulimia etc..)
I was in Los Angeles and had the opportunity to eat a a raw food restaurant. I was totally amazed!! Also of course I had the chance to buy foods from Whole Foods too. Wow how amazing.
I have been a vegetarian off and on for over 20 years but currently still eat fish.
I work in a hotel and can eat in the restaurant and I find it hard to just eat purely vegetarian.
I just bought a commercial blender (not the vitamix as it is about $1000 hear for the 220 v version) and have just started preparing food to take to work. (pity as i eat for free at work but.....)
I could never cook but just love love the wholesomeness of the raw food.
I also did manage to get one Raw Food cook book with me.
I do have some problems as a lot of the ingredients are not available here or the imports are very expensive. However fresh vegetables
are not expensive however I am not sure what is organic and what is not. Although it is impossible to find celery but young Thai coconuts are cheap and abundant :D even the local fruit venders go around on motorbikes and sell them for about .50 cents. So that is nice to see in a lot of recipes.
I was able to get Agave, Flax seed, macadamia nuts and almonds, sea salt, avocados and chick peas. But I don't think I can find Tahini, and live cultures.. oh well. there is an abundance of exotic fruit here too.
Good news is that someone, from America, is opening a raw food cafe here where I live! Yeah!
I hope someone can share some Asian recipes with me and I hope that at the end of this month I can participate in the 30 day raw food challenge. I am practicing now.
Very happy to find this sight! Thank you
Thank you,

Wow! We visited Phuket when we were expats in Singapore! Neat place. Enjoy your oppertunity. One of the things I miss the most about Asian food is the availablity of young coconuts, and how inexpensive they were! Mmmmm!
Blessings on your way to better health through raw foods!

Hi, my Dad goes to Thailand for periods, he goes to pattya and places like that, he is an omnivore but seriously thinking of cutting down his meat intake, but will probably still be eating fish (like you), and I was saying to my Dad the other day, you know, that is it easy to do to eat veggie, and he said but how could I do it in thailand, and I was like, well.. (because when he does go there he doesn't eat a lot because of the heat and he isn't eating bread over there or anything or dairy and well he was underweight when he came back, or nearly anyway) So, my question - what can you tell me about the raw food place that is coming?? It would be good if he had somewhere he could try this stuff.
Anyway, I hear smoothies over in Thailand are pretty abundant! :) Just eat fruit and veg I wouldn't too much worry about recipes IMO

Wow what a nice introduction and I was feeling so bad for eating steamed fish today. I used to be vegetarian but working in a restaurant makes it hard to just order gazpacho and salad. I did bring some marinated raw eggplant today to work.
never knew you could eat raw eggplant .Yum ..with cilantro and onions.
So thanks for the support! YEs mangos mangos mangos and all kinds of exotic fruit. I am lucky as the breakfast buffett has an abundance of "exotic" fruit.. Pomelo, draggon, rose apple, custard apple.. and lucky for me we have Raw Nuts! so breakfast for me is always 100% raw. No problem to ignore the croissants or brie cheese!
Irish_vegan_girl..Actually being vegetarian in Thailand is easy and it was one of my first Thai phrases....... no meat/fish etc .
THere are so many great veggies and a trip to the market for fresh veggies is cheap cheap.. $3 gives you plenty. I had a heart attack at Whole Food when I was in the states.. $10 for a premade raw item..oh but so good!
Yes will be nice to find recipies for "water spinach" and other easily available vegetables. As I mentioned at least Thai Coconuts are easy and of course things like kafir limes, and kafir limes leaves, lemon grass (have it growing in my yard) etc.
The Thais' use a lot of RAW papaya for a salad too, has the consistency of cabbage. Of course I would omit the sugar and shrimp..but will have to experiment. Raw papaya, tomoato, some small peanut like thing, lemon and chili.
OK thanks for the support ! So glad I found this forum.
Will let Irish_vegan_girl now more when I find out about the raw food cafe in Phuket.
really though in Thailand where they sell cut pinapple on the street for >25 cents and young Thai coconuts for 30 cents on the street it is easy to be veggie. Normally I order water spinach. or the coconut milk soup with extra mushrooms instead of chicken or prawn.. also many places have tofu.
