What a blessing! Just found a local orchard that is selling a bushel of fresh picked ORGANIC pears for $8.00. A bushel of pears is about 35-40 pounds.
If you were in this predicament, how many bushels would you buy...and what would you do with them?
We have two people in our household. We do have a dehydrator, but have never dehydrated pears. We could freeze, but have never frozen pears. Advise needed!
Has anyone put pears in their green smoothies?
I need to know how many I want by Wednesday. Thank you for any help you can provide on our very awesome situation.

Pears are yummy with kale for a green smoothie. I never tried to freeze pears, but at that price you may want to try. At the very least, you could blend to a liquid pulp and freeze in ice cube trays. Keep dumping the cubes into a ziploc freezer bag. That way you could use them in smoothies all winter and probably in some other recipes. Happy Wintering!

to me, none of taste the same once it's frozen but I have frozen many things this yr. I would puree & freeze the cubes, do some dehydrating too. Dehydrated pears here are expensive. What at great deal!!! do one bushel them see if you have it in you to do another one.

I've made Fruit Smoothies with Pears, Bananas, Strawberries and Orange Juice. You can Freeze them and add to Green Smoothies Frozen. Its a Great Deal..........So go on a Pear diet, just eat your feel of Pears.
A Friend gave me some RAWonderful tasting Soft Pears and that's what I had to do, eat them before they went bad, so I was on a Pear Diet.

I like to make a pear, apple and ginger juice. Yum!
Check here (http://goneraw.com/search/node/pear)for raw pear recipes. There seems to be plenty of recipes.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I ordered two bushels of pears and can order more next week. If they turn out to be superb, I may order a couple of additional bushels.
The orchard is south of Green Bay, WI / east of Appleton, WI.
We also have a local farmer that grows organic/biodynamic veggies with rock dust in the soil for added mineral nutrients. Organic heirloom tomatoes for $25 a bushel.
Blessings abound. Thank you all for your ideas.
