The closer they grow to the ground, the more grounding they are. :)

Good question Zina, I think it means feeling grounded i.e. in touch with whats going on as opposed to for instance...spacey or whatever. Balanced and down to earth?

We practiced 'grounding' in chi-kung meditation classes. We would walk barefoot on the seashore and we would imagine the soles of our feet sending our excess energies to the earth and getting the balanced energies of the earth coming into our bodies. Curiously, before learning this, I knew by instinct that walking barefoot in the sand was balancing.

all good,

BUT...then if you're leaning on a tree and pluck an apple from said "grounded" item - would anyone hear it!

::runs away laughing::

::runs BACK in to say::

I'm sure someone will get ticked over this...oh well...sorry!

Heavier foods such as nuts and seeds and raw granolas are grounding. They are of a lower vibration than fruits and veggies, so if you feel anxious or like you are spinning away from eating too lightly, add in some of those. :)

juliew,

Hugely interesting and informative.. thank you !

I guess thats why on certain days I get a good feeling from my flax crackers and raw almond butter ( with some celtic salt mixed in ).
Or, raw sesame butter with organic unpasteurized honey ( buckwheat honey..luv it ! ) and cinnamon on flax crackers.

Now I understand a little more,

All good,

Revvell is totally right, if you want more precision:

"According to Ayurvedic Medicine, there are grounding foods that you can eat. Grounding foods include those that come from the ground. Hence, these will be foods like potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots and ginger. Other grounding foods include avocado, mango, papaya, grapes, olives, berries, coconuts, figs, melons. Vegetables include green beans, egg plant, and yams."

Hope it helped :)

Thanks much,

I have made a lot of notes from this thread.. learned a lot..many thanks..time to get down in the dirt (hehe) and get grounded..kidding aside.. I do believe, as the chinese tradition suggests, that foods have energetic qualities that should be balanced. All the yin and the yang qualities etc. As for the idea of preferring local produce.. I live close to an apple region and I do get a positive feedback from my body when I eat a lot of locally grown apples.

All good and thanks for writing,

I've found that cabbage is the grounding food for me. It just makes me feel calm and stable. Perhaps the amount of chewing involved has something to do with it too.

Hello,

I remember making a note in my diary the day I made cabbage juice...I wrote that I should always remember the feelings of well-being that cabbage juice provided. It is a special food.. of that there is no doubt.

Best to you,

As far a promoting a feeling of peace and well-being, I find that nothing beats greens. I didn't have green smoothies for several days b/c I was going through this weird gross-out thing, and I definitely felt more anxious and less focused. Immediately after drinking some green smoothie my anxiety levels dropped like 80% (could partially have been a blood sugar thing, but it was a lasting change, so I know it wasn't *just* that).

I completely agree RawDawn.
Greens are a must. No denying it. They help us to overcome the anxieties we sometimes face in these trying times and keep us balanced and feeling well. Dr's believe that 90% of ailments these days are stress related. I believe greens are somewhat of an antidote to stress.

Food for the root chakra. Any food found from the ground such root vegetables and food that are red which match the root chakra:

from this link http://www.divavillage.com/article/id/46187

Minerals: Minerals, which are stable compounds from the Earth’s crust, impart structure and stability to the body and workings of the root chakra. For example, calcium is needed for a strong skeleton. Iron is needed to ensure that the body can be properly oxygenated and able to function. Foods high in minerals such as dairy foods high in calcium would be nourishing to the root chakra.

Root vegetables: These tenacious vegetables grow deep within the dark, quiet Earth, and embody earthy energy. Root vegetables help us to nestle into our internal, lower core and to be comfortable in its darkness. Examples include beets, parsnips, and rutabaga.

Red-colored foods: A healthy root chakra vibrates at a frequency similar to the color red. Therefore, red foods provide the vibration rate needed to help balance the root chakra. On a nutritional level, red foods usually contain relatively high levels of vitamin C, a nutrient utilized by several body parts overseen by the root chakra such as the bone, teeth, skin, and adrenals. Examples include tomatoes, strawberries, and cherries.

Thank you Raw Angel Mom,

I am guessing that sea veggies, with their impressive mineral content, may be grounding as well. Red algae, dulse, nori and kelp would be grounding ?

All good,

Without question! Plus they are born from the oceans and a huge massive earth energy. Rich in minerals.

Now that everyone knows what grounds them maybe you could tell me what will do the opposite.
I am so grounded that I risk being a "stick in the mud".
Anyone suggest what will make me more "flighty".

LOL.....

If you are talking about to open the upper chakra such third eye, crown.

Pineapple has the ability to open the third eye chakra. Any food such fruits that absorbs a lot of sun will do this. I find that green smoothie (rich in exotic fruit open my clairs-intuition, etc...). If you are into fasting, water fasting has been use by the Essene. Dr. Gabriel Cousens has with the Essene.

Best wishes!

I use stone jewelry to enhance my chakras, different stones depending on what I need that day. Hematite aids in grounding, and counteracts spaciness and confusion by enhancing the root chakra. It is a dark, shiny, gray stone that is inexpensive. Makes a nice bracelet for a man or woman. You don't have to wear the stone(s) as jewelry. You can get the same effect by putting a piece in your pocket, or pinning it inside your clothing.

(LOL) Yikes! It has been awhile since I've seen any of that. Took me a minute to figure out what it was. I got high and a little paranoid from just looking at it!

Lulz. If anybody's interested, this whole eating cannabis raw thing is definitely worth a look:

http://www.cannabis.uk.net/raw%20cannabis/RAW%20CANNABIS.htm

^Dude believes that cannabis is possibly the most perfect food on the planet.

"Though Cannabis seeds are very nutritious, I personally no longer believe it is right to say that the seed of the Cannabis plant is nature’s most perfectly balanced food. This is because all seeds, to a greater or lesser extent, are acid forming. Though pre-soaking of the seeds removes the enzyme inhibitors and makes the seed more digestible and nutritious, it is still slightly acid forming.

Acid imbalance is a major root problem to the general state of poor health of people consuming a 'westernized' diet of meat, dairy, frozen, cooked, processed and micro waved foods along with the widely popular drugs of refined sugar, alcohol and tobacco. All these drugs/foods create an acid environment, in which diseases thrive.

Therefore for a food to be 'nutritionally balanced', it must bring us back to a neutral pH, or better still, slightly alkaline.

The leaves and flowers of the Cannabis plant are highly alkaline. So a more accurate statement would be "The Cannabis Plant is natures most perfectly balanced food", a view shared by Raw Food pioneer, David Wolfe."

If I can ever source some organically grown cannabis I'm going to try consuming it.

I assume that you are talking about the hemp plant and not about cannabis as such. I do not know when it changes from one to the other.
