I love rice cakes so can eat loads and loads of them, but i find my stomach feels completely clogged up then and struggle to go to the toilet. When i start on one pack i will finish it so i dont know if its just because i eat to many of them or does anyone else have this problem with them?

Well, considering this is a raw foods forum and rice cakes aren't raw, I'm afraid you probably won't get many responses. You might want to try a vegetarian or vegan forum for such questions.

Apart from not being raw, rice cakes aren't good for you in any way. I don't get why some consider them a health-food.

yes they can clog you up...there's usually a lot of fiber in them. Drink an abundance of water & stay away from fiber for a few days. Try soaking some prunes & drinking the liquid only.

As Contessa said ~ "RAW" food forum. They're not raw. Second ~ operative words ~ "too many". Too many/much of anything is going to have negative consequences.

Well, there are several problems here. One is that rice cakes aren't raw. Another is that if they are white rice cakes, they are completely devoid or fiber. They are simply a pure starch, and as such have a very high glycemic index. If they are salted rice cakes, you can get a ton of sodium eating bags at a time. If you've ever seen the show Survivor, you will note that a diet high in rice can be very constipating without tons of vegetables to make up for the lack of fiber. Best solution: don't buy them and don't eat them. They are not supporting your health.

Not only not raw, rice cakes are made using extrusion process which destroys nutrients, makes oils rancid, denatures proteins into toxins but leaves phytic acid. So extremely hard to digest and as bad for the body as white sugar and white flour

Since i'm asian i can tell you that rice cakes shouldn't be eaten on a daily basis (usually eaten at special occasions like birthdays etc), even if you're not a raw foodist i'd tell you to avoid rice cake, (eat them once in while max) my aunt had a serious constipation problem because of the glutinous rice powder it's made with, + It's very poor in nutrients so I don't see any benefit in eating rice cakes :o
If you feel like you just can't give up on rice cakes just give yourself a challenge, for every 2 weeks 100% raw , you can reward yourself with a few pieces of rice cakes to stay motivated! Good luck in your diet!

How is that a reward? From what others have said, seems more like the opposite. What's a better reward? Maybe something that doesn't involve your addiction?

Oh I can't agree more. It would be like giving an alcoholic a LITTLE glass of alcohol as opposed to the entire bottle.

I agree. It's like when people reward themselves with a snickers bar when they have been working out.
If eating raw is so boring that a reward is needed for sticking to it for two weeks then there's something wrong. The food needs to be fun and attractive, or else you'll never be able to stick with it in the long run.

Well i don't feel the need to, but some people do. You may have the motivation to stick to a 100% raw diet but we're not all as strong-willed as you. I don't see anything bad in having a reward if that can make you discover something new and get you some new good healthy eating habits, I prefer that than letting someone give up before they even started, because he/she feels depressed for letting go all the things he/she used to eat.
Some people prefer to be extreme and go 100% raw overnight but there's also other people who need time, it's about going at your own pace; I just don't want to judge people's way of eating as I'm far from being perfect. I'm just being understanding and trying to help, so please don't get me wrong. thanks :)
Peace

I look it as if you are going to reward with the bad food choices, then to me THAT is giving up. It's saying it's okay to cave after only a set time period for eating healthy? And yes there are many that are not as strong-willed and that is where this forum helps too. I caved after 2 years, BUT I knew better than caving after two weeks! This is why Alissa says give it a 30-day challenge so your body and mind can heal (start to) and the temptation will not be as great.
EveryBODY IS different but how this lifestyle is MOST effective is to jump in 100% and not reward with that which you are trying so badly to stop.

No one said anything about being 100%. "I" said, how about finding another "reward" that doesn't involve one's addiction. There's a difference.
