:D Greetings from the Deep South!

Yes, it's hot - ugh - 110 or so. Nope.. If I'd garden, I'd die right now.

Before we found out we REALLY needed to change our diet, I did change it - for the worse - and I thought I was doing such a good thing. K, yeah, I got the point just in time.

I've now BUCKETS of grains, unused. My daughters and I are all IBS positive ( roll in there some other stuff, too ), and ... we're not supposed to come near wheat stuff.

.....but..... can the wheat be sufficiently soaked and sprouted, and would THAT make it alkaline and digestable? Ya think? ( please say yes! lol )

Has anyone tried that with long-grain rice? Rye?

If it IS possible, are there any tips I should consider before I go through the trouble of trying?

Thanks in advance!

Renee - who - with 3 other people in this house - is going through a detox cleanse...and whooo eeee.. we're CRANKY! ..and tired... Oh my.. I'd sift through the messages to look for anything rather than bother anyone to repeat information, but I honestly can't think straight at the moment...and my eye is blurry. Hmmm.. ya think I've been sick? ( yeeesh.. )

I tried sprouting my own soft, summer wheat.
Nada.
After speaking with the grocer, now I know why:

The germ was removed which is why it wouldn't GERMINATE..
To make it "soft", they removed the harder germ.

well, now imagine that....

( sigh )

I believe I have whole rye.. so, we're going to now try that.

He did say, use wheat berries.

Could you donate the buckets to a shelter ?

I don't know if a shelter would take them since they're opened, one, and they might not have any way of utilizing them. That sure would be a great option, though!

The long-grain rice we can keep; I believe - done properly - I can make rice milk from it - grind raw and dehydrate if I have to .

The rye, well, we'll just have to work with that, too.

My only problem is this Summer wheat. I might be able to "trade" the leftover in to a friend of mine who owns her own whole-foods co-op business.

I think I'll talk to her about it.

Thanks! Live and learn, I guess!

I sprout soft summer wheat and grow wheatgrass from it! I bought mine from the health food store, and confirmed with the guy there that it was organic and fresh. No problems!

Also, same with rye. Grows great, tasty, I mix it with wheat for making wheatgrass/rye juice. No problems!

I tried sprouting rice once, it sprouted, but I hated the smell, so I figured it went bad quickly. I may try that one again.

Good luck!

( befuddled look on my face )

You DO, Jackie??

Okay, tell me how you do it, please!!

I want to be able to use this grain - since it's been sitting here for so long. :)

Is the rye different to sprout?

Thank YOU,
