Hi there everybody, I'm new to these here parts, this will be my first post... I was looking to join a raw forum for a bit now, so here I am... I come bearing a question. Does anybody know of any jobs that aren't parasitic to dah earth and mankind alike? An example would be a job at a healthfood store that sells good, or atleast mostly good foods, or some kind of job for environmental restoration... but it doesn't seem either of those options are available to me, and I don't know where to start. It seems that most occupations that aren't detrimental to the planet are volunteer positions, how does a pure soul such as myself make money?

Any bits and pieces of advice to kickstart my frail noggin are utmost appreciated.

Hey there! Obtaining a job with what one feels is a symbiotic relationship (I feel) with one's beliefs, is a very personal thing. No one can really do it but you. Lots of factors play in. Like where is your location for one? I appreciate your putting it out there and wish you luck on your endeavor. As with anything in life, what you get out of it is what you put in to it.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just checked 'em out and it looks like they want volunteers instead of paid workers... plus they're in Canada. Bummershizzles.

Yes indeedy, I figured the answer wouldn't come from people on this forum directly, I was moreso hoping maybe someone's suggestion would help spark my brain and get my mind a'joggin at the possibilities. I live in Indiana, of United States fame.

I understand where you are coming from on this one. It is hard to know what is morally and environmentally "responsible" and as a young person (which I am) you want other peoples imput and support in imortant decisions. I agree with everyone else that it depends on your skills, location etc... My only advice would be that these type of jobs may not advertise in the "normal" media and that you should put the word out with like minded people and keep an ear to the ground.

I am lucky enough to be just finishing my degree in ecology and biodiversity and luckily in New Zealand that is one of the biggest biology employers :)

I wish you louk on your hunt but in the end agree that it is a personal thing,
Rachel

Shameless plug for social services in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . .

Hi! I work in community mental health as a therapist. Working in jobs that serve people are a great way to get paid without harming the environment, IMHO. Is helping people something that interests you? If not, keep thinking. You'll find something :)

Work with children! Or handicapped people! Or older people! They are our most precious natural resources.

You don't mention what your educational background is. To make a difference in the world, you need a good educational background. If you need to, get your butt into a community college and MAKE yourself employable. Get a degree in nutrition - even from an online university (the Global College of Natural Medicine has very reasonably priced degrees). With a degree you can set up your own website to teach proper nuttrition to others. Go to classes like Alissa's and you can teach raw food cooking and counseling. Alissa has certified teachers all over the country so you don't have to go very far. Study science or engineering and you can make solar panels, wind mills, or hydrogen cars. Get a nursing degree and you can help the sick. Yes, you may have to work at a job you hate to pay for an education, but that's part of being a grown up. What counts is attitude, ambition and education. Decide what you want your life to be five years from now, and work to make it come true.

How about the renewable energy field? You could install solar or wind power systems, or be an engineer or do sales or marketing. I do sales for a solar company and love it.

Blessings,

Are you searching for a career to aim for with education, or are you looking for something you can do right now?

You could
-physically build earthships.
-become a farmer, or help one
-work at a recycling plant
-teach (there are so many ways to teach-singing, writing, being a tour guide etc..)
-forest ranger/park
-love the solar/renewable energy installer/seller idea!=)

Another thing, sometimes volunteering can be a door to a lot of new opportunities. The other people volunteering are probably employed outside of the volunteer work and would have a similar world view to you. You might find yourself with some interesting offers, once some like minded people see how concerned and industrious you can be.

I disagree. I think I make a difference in this world...

I recycle and teach my children to recycle.
I publish an online magazine - to avoid using paper.
We use little paper products in our home.
I suggest and get recycling programs happening outside our home (like at Girl Guide meetings for example).
I volunteer for the Green Legacy Society in my town to get the word out even louder in a more active way - by planting trees, assisting with 'yard composting days' etc.
I have taught myself via experience about raw foods, fasting etc. and share that with others - thereby assisting the Earth.

If you find your passion... you can MAKE it assist the world. Even CEO's of companies need the little guy in the mailroom to make a difference and they can... by setting up a bin for pop cans and paper in their department.

I've been thinking about this all week. You are so amazing, Aleesha--and we should all emulate you in these ways, and with new ideas as well. I went to the zoo today and was hit with the realization that our species has such a tremendous impact on Earth, and we are so lucky to be able to impact it for the good. It is such a heavy responsibility. Which other sentient beings can make the impact that even the quietest, poorest of us has the opportunity to make?

You who have been called to the blessings of a healthier, clearer raw food mind have such a unique place to help the world. Not just with pollution, but healing also through the education of the others. I'm not speaking of just raw food soapboxing--but helping start community gardens, teaching young people (and old) of your enlightenments!

What other ways can we help? What has the universe been whispering in your ears, guys?
