I am preparing to start a long juice fast and would like to add some protein in my juices.
I have previously completed 2 long fasts (30 and 40 days) but seem to have lost quite a bit of muscle mass on them. I will be working out 3 times a week (mild strength training/cardio).
I have spirunlina powder and raw hemp powder and was thinking of adding them to my juices. Would that interfere with my fast? (fiber, detox?)

Hiya,
You would loose a bit of muscle mass when fasting for that time, but your body will primarily burn fat. working out would help, but your recovery time would slow down. (Im currently juice fasting and working out too so im speaking from experience :))
Ive heard and also found with my body that after fasting and loosing a bit of muscle, muscle mass increases rapidly and easily when working out post- fasting. My muscles become more defined and stronger than before the fast.
Its like the body tries to rebuild to its former state and stronger...
I dont know about spirulina powder, it helped my recovery when I was working out and not fasting, I hardly had any muscle soreness. You might get a sore stomach and wake up your metabolism with hemp powder when fasting because of the fibre. Juice fasting is only juice fasting when you dont put ANY fibre in the body.
How about green smoothie fasting? That way you could still have the protein powder and still cleanse?

when you are juice fasting... you are taking it lots of amino acids. the amino acids are your building blocks for protein so you don't need to take in more. you'll be getting plenty!
i fasted for 262 days last year, mostly on juices (fruit primarily) and i lost NO muscle mass... i gained lots though!

You're not necessarily losing muscle mass as the fat between them. More protein will not build more muscle. More training will.
